MR N’s #NFL Week 12 Power Poll‏

NFL Power Rankings

1. New England Patriots (2) – Pats are feeling out the Lions D and trying to find holes and you almost feel the sense that a TD is coming. The Pats put up not one but three TDs and this game is pretty much over after 30 minutes. The Pats simply tore down the Lion D and won this game going away. They are on a roll and are the best in the AFC by far.

2. Green Bay Packers (4) – Packers were held scoreless for most of the first half then quickly knifed in for 7. This team is deadly with their calmness and patience. The Packers are still having difficulty getting as much offense as they are used to against a feisty D. They are barely in the lead late in the 3rd quarter. The Packers managed to get the scores they needed to crawl out of Minnesota with a win. It was ugly and they didn’t play well but it was a win.

3. Seattle Seahawks (6) – Seahawks seem to be firing on all cylinders in the first half. The fire and energy hasn’t amounted to a lot of points and they are only barely ahead of a team they have vastly outplayed. Seattle never let up and rolled over the Cardinals for an exceptional divisional win. Now they have the Niners on Thanksgiving and they could be better in control of their playoff destiny with another division win.

4. San Francisco 49ers (5) – The Niners are sleeping through the game and need to wake up or they might drop one they will severely regret, possibly by Thanksgiving night. The Niners snuck out with a win and it was about as ugly a win as it could be. Ok now it will come down to a showdown with Seattle with their season just about on the line.

5. Cincinnati Bengals (7) – The Bengals battle scoreless for most of the first quarter then drew first blood. This could be a battle to the end. The Bengals are giving their all on the road and are in a slim lead. Their D is starting to be pushed around by Houston. They need another score to get back in control. They got the score and their D played well and they got a win. The Bengals looked better today than they have in weeks. They need to do this steadily for the rest of the year to have shot at the playoffs.

6. Arizona Cardinals (1) – Cardinals slow start on the road in a tough divisional game. They had trouble corralling Wilson and had some offensive issues with golden turnovers. The Cards should consider themselves lucky to be within one possession at the half. They were lucky then as they quickly fell behind by 16 and never mounted any sort of offense and down they go. This team was the best in the NFL and now they are simply not.

7. Kansas City Chiefs (3) – They came out flat and got manhandled on both sides of the ball. The Chief D couldn’t get a hand on Murray of the Raiders and perhaps the injury to that Raider kept this from being a total blow out. The Chiefs showed guts to come from behind and take a late lead but in the end their D was unable to stop a team that had destiny in its hands. A fair effort but they literally were beaten by a better team (tonight at least).

8. Baltimore Ravens (9) – The Ravens came into what used to be a tough environment and they brought their running game. They stomped huge holes through the Saints D over and over again until they built an insurmountable lead and won the game. A good win for them and sets them up well in their extremely competitive division.

9. Dallas Cowboys (10) – The Cowboys didn’t garner many headlines after the division game but they did the important thing…they won. They were on the road and had to battle but in the end Tony Romo showed some amazing heart to drive the ‘Boys the length of the field for the victory. This creates a battle on Thanksgiving for who will be in control of their division. If Dallas doesn’t get silly and simply runs, runs and then runs more – they should be ok.

10. Denver Broncos (11) – The problems of the Broncos continue and they find themselves down at home to a team they ‘should’ be dominating. It is becoming more and more common that beating up Denver isn’t as special as it used to be. They need to really go hard to get ahead here. The explosive Bronco O lived up to its reputation as they quickly blew out the Dolphins and the game was theirs. A good win but their D still has issues.

11. Indianapolis Colts (18) – Colts have been playing good D (for them) and their O is slow to get it going but they are a 2nd half team. The Colts better start getting some offense as they are relying on their D to keep them in a tie. A sudden boom and the Colts have a huge lead and now can almost play prevent for the rest of the way. The Colts really needed a win and they won this game handily and perhaps this will help right the sinking ship?

12. Cleveland Browns (13) – Brown D playing a good game early but finally got beat by a good throw by Ryan but they are battling early. Need some O. The Browns have started to put up points and if Hoyer could only get better connections with Josh Gordon they would be leading. What a great finish for Cleveland. You can’t say Cleveland does it easy but it seemed late that terrible picks and clock management was going to blow the game but it was almost a miracle. Nice win and this was a game ‘old’ Cleveland would lose. Well done!

13. Philadelphia Eagles (14) – Great start for Eagles! They have used special teams to help them get out into a healthy lead early. it is not overstating anything to say if Philadelphia doesn’t win this game their season is dead. The Eagles have nearly 30 in the first half and need to have their D keep the Titans at bay. This game is still in question. The question was answered early in the second half when the Eagles blew away the Titans. It was a great game for Philadelphia and now they need to build on this as they have a serious battle on Thanksgiving.

14. Miami Dolphins (8) – About as good of a first half as they could have hoped. The D playing well and the O has put up the points and now they need to see if they can do this for 60 minutes and come away with a key road win. The Dolphins were in the game right up to the point when they suddenly allowed three touchdowns and one two point conversion in a row. Wow the game went away really fast. An ugly loss.

15. San Diego Chargers (17) – The Chargers D is playing pretty well. Rivers tossing a pick six from the six of the opposition is a 14 point swing that could cost them the game. Being down by four at the half is lucky for San Diego. San Diego was barely able to hold on to get a win. I give them credit for getting a win but they didn’t look great doing it. A win is a win.

16. Pittsburgh Steelers (16) – On the bye. I considered kicking them down some after seeing how horrible the Jets were and remembering how this team lost to THAT but alas they have been given a break. If they lose the next game, they will drop like a bag of rocks.

17. St. Louis Rams (15) – Took advantage of a golden turnover worth millions to grab a lead on the road. No real offensive success but the D is playing hard. They need to score points to get control of this game. The Rams did score a lot of points late but they cost themselves 14 by stupid penalties. Those plays showed that St. Louis didn’t deserve to win and they still had a shot late but a Super Pure Golden turnover cost them their shot. A loss they earned.

18. Buffalo Bills (22) – What an incredible game by the Bills. The D was on fire, Orton (since he was alive and able to breathe) was able to tear apart the hapless Jet secondary. The game was over quick and Buffalo is raising it’s head out of the playoff grave. They need to beat Cleveland to keep faint hopes alive. Best moment…Chandler shoveling snow as his TD celebration!

19. Houston Texans (12) – The Texans O is having trouble getting any positive plays early and now they have to work harder to play catch-up. The Texans took their time but finally have started putting up points and their D helped with six on their own. It will likely go down to the wire here and best team will win. The Texans O backslid and Ryan Mallett was overwhelmed and the Texans lost this one. That pretty much undoes all the positives of the last few weeks.

20. Chicago Bears (28) – The BEARS O has struggled again and Cutler has stumbled early. Their D is playing well but that isn’t something to count on. The Bears did get seven but they have to really get it going or they will lose something like their millionth this year at home. I give Chicago credit as their D stepped up and Cutler made some good plays and they won their second in a row at home. The Bears could beat Detroit on Thursday and get back to .500 which would put things back in the possible column for this team in what was two weeks ago, a lost year.

21. New Orleans Saints (21) – The Saints used to be a tough team to beat at home. Now it seems teams just have trouble figuring out where they want to beat them. They have serious D issues and if they can’t figure out how to stop the run they are not going to make the playoffs in their crappy Division.

22. Carolina Panthers (26) – On the bye. This team is schizo and just terrible and sometimes not bad but they are impossibly still alive for their division. If they keep winning they could crawl on their belly into the playoffs.

23. Oakland Raiders (32) – The Raiders came out on a short week and their D was on fire. Carr was amazing. Latavius Murray is THE MAN at RB for Oakland. I think the worm has finally turned for Oakland. After leading for a long period their team fell behind. Traditionally the Raiders would have collapsed. But today young FRANCHISE QB Carr rallied the team and marched for the game winning score. Going forward the next six weeks, this team is going to be a very hard one to face. Excellent game. They are no longer the worst team in the NFL!!!!

24. Detroit Lions (19) – The Lions haven’t won a game in New England in over a decade and this is going to be a tough one, so far their O is not having much luck. Two field goals by the offense isn’t enough to make up for the at least 3 TDs the ‘vaunted’ Lion D has let in so far. This game seems over at the half. The game was over. Detroit is starting to lose often and if they lose to the Bears on Thanksgiving they will be heading south in their division fast. A terrible game by a pretty bad team with (for now a winning record).

25. Atlanta Falcons (20) – Matt Ryan says it is quirky that his team is 4-0 vs the NFC South and 0-6 against the rest of the NFL. That isn’t quirky, it is defining two things…one is the NFC South sucks, 2 is the FALCONS SUCK. The Falcons draw first blood with a TD and their D is pitching a shutout early! Atlanta barely holding on to a slim lead and the relentless pressure of the Brown D is starting to take a toll on the Falcons. Well Atlanta had the lead up til 6 seconds left and then lost. Now Atlanta is 0-7 against any team not in the NFC South. Quirky? No ATLANTA SUCKS.

26. Minnesota Vikings (23) – The Vikings had many moral victories early holding the Packers scoreless for 12 minutes was a good one. They now must get their O moving to keep this game close. The Vikings have to be given full credit for playing a great 45 minutes (so far). They need just a little more O and 15 more minutes of D and they could sneak a win. It was a matter that the Vikings couldn’t get points they needed and lost a close one. Well played for what it is worth.

27. Jacksonville Jaguars (25) – Bortles is trying to get things going and he is moving the ball albeit not into the end-zone early. Good D but they may tire. Bortles is playing horribly but their D is keeping them in a very low scoring affair. The Jags suddenly got rolled up and and now they need to figure out if they can get more out of Bortles. The D can’t do it alone and the Offense is needing some focus. A poor game.

28. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (27) – The Bucs are playing a good game on the road early. The Bucs could easily win this game. The Bucs have held the lead for most of the game and they are about 15 minutes away from humiliating a seemingly hapless Bears squad. The Bucs fell behind and were unable to get the needed points. McCown simply threw the game away with golden turnovers. The Bucs just faded and didn’t play a full game.

29. New York Giants (29) – The Giants played a pretty good 58 minutes but in the end their D couldn’t make the stops and they lost another game. Much has been made of the superb catch ODB made. It was a great catch. The thing is the kid said that making that catch was FUN. He said that right after his team blew a lead and lost a game that almost mathematically eliminated his team. He needs to learn that catching the ball is ok, winning is fun.

30. New York Jets (24) – I had not had the ‘pleasure’ of watching the Jets play football for 3 straight hours until early Monday night. Let me just say that they are the WORST team I have ever seen. I had previously had them slotted in about 27 in the poll but OMG that was just horrid. As the Bills tore them pillar to post I just kept thinking…how did Pittsburgh lose to this bunch of nobodies? The Jets are the Sixers of the NFL. One more loss and they are locked in 32.

31. Tennessee Titans (31) – The Titans thought letting Philly receive was a good idea but the 107 KR for a TD put the damper on that. They are quickly in a hole and need to really get it going to be back in this game. The Titans are only still in this game since their O is playing a D that lets teams stay in games. They are still down by 10 and have a lot of work to do. Utterly destroyed by the Eagles. The Titans D had played well early today and certainly played better the last two weeks but this game was ugly and they lost interest as it went on. Another bad game for a BAD team.

32. Washington Redskins (30) – The Redskins are hanging around in a game they have no business being a part of. Being down by three at the half is a moral victory for a team that seems to lack leadership only in Quarterback, Offensive line, Defense and Coaching. I am doubting it is close at the end. The Redskins managed to lose by four so that is a moral win but they never really were in it. All the focus is on RGIII. That O line is horrid and some of the coaching is bad. This is a horrible team. I believe they are the worst in the NFL.

There you have it! As always I enjoy sharing my in game and post game thoughts with everyone! I also enjoy every thought, agreement, comment, argument…just read it if you like! I will always take cash, preferably tens and twenties!

MR N’s #NFL Week 11 Power Poll‏

NFL Power Rankings

1. Arizona Cardinals (1) – A really good first half for Arizona. Stanton has tossed 2 TDs and 2 picks but the Cardinal D is holding the Lions to simply FGs. If they stop turning the ball over and keep up the pressure they have this game. The Cardinal D is simply incredible and reminds me of the Seahawks last year. They simply dominate a game. Stanton is more than effective as QB and the Cardinals are the best team in the NFL as I thought they would be.

2. New England Patriots (2) – The Pats are the 2nd best in the NFL today, bar none. They are able to game plan to destroy the opposition of the week. It would be very interesting to see these Patriots head into Arizona in February to face The Cardinals for the Super Bowl. As for the game, they ripped the currently sappy Colts apart. Great win.

3. Kansas City Chiefs (3) – The Kansas City Chiefs have come out and played a pretty solid first half against a historic rival. The D is playing well and the O has put up a couple of scores. Will be a test of their mettle to see if they can hold on for a win. This was a superb win for Kansas City. This team has a D that gets better and better each week. With a strong run D and a vibrant pass rush they don’t need much O to make this work. They have a great Rushing attack and enough passing. A team to be reckoned with for the rest of the year and now I am a believer.

4. Green Bay Packers (6) – Excellent game so far for Green Bay. The Offense is ripping it and are putting it to the Eagle D. The Packer D is teeing off on Philly and this game is over and there is 30 minutes still to play. A great game by Green Bay. They won it going away and put a hurting on the Eagles. Spectacular and if they keep this going they are going to very hard to beat the rest of the way.

5. San Francisco 49ers (10) – The Niners have been able to move the ball between the 20’s but have only gotten a trifecta of FGs to start. They need to get 7 to get control of this game. They lead but it’s not a great game for them yet. The Niners were never able to get on track and have to consider themselves extremely lucky to come away from Jersey with a win. Terrible O but decent D. 6-4 is a fair record but this San Fran team isn’t very good.

6. Seattle Seahawks (4) – Seattle D was gashed twice by Charles and put them in a hole. The showing of a little life got them a late first half 3 but this team has a lot of work ahead to win this game on the road. The Seahawks gave it a good shot. Their rushing offense is a great weapon but without a complimentary passing offense (or at least the hint of one) they are almost a one trick pony. The Hawks D isn’t what it used to be and the Chiefs took advantage of that. Been a tough year for this team and now it’s fair to wonder if they will even make the playoffs.

7. Cincinnati Bengals (12) – The Bengals have jumped out to a nice lead on the road. Almost lucky for Cincy that this game isn’t on during prime time. They scored one TD by having the receiver fumble and then recover it in the end zone. They are by definition, winning ugly. The Bengals used a solid second half running game to take a nice lead. Heck, Dalton didn’t look like crap either. He tossed a couple of TDs and they won a great game on the road in a tough environment. I still don’t think they are any good but they are alive in their division and for the AFC Wildcard.

8. Miami Dolphins (13) – The Fins came out slow and had trouble getting the ball into the end zone. They struggled for a half then Tannehill turned it on and they won the game going away. The Dolphins have a decent D, a QB that can at times look good too. This team is alone in 2nd in their division and still have a legit shot at an AFC Wildcard if they can keep it going.

9. Baltimore Ravens (14) – On the bye and look at that…they moved up 5 spots. Well they had to for 5 reasons…1 they are a decent team and 2, 3, 4, and 5…4 teams that were top ten stunk so bad they don’t deserve to be in any top ten after their play. Win and keep it going Baltimore.

10. Dallas Cowboys (15) – On the bye and for reasons above, that is how Dallas moved up 5 places by not playing. Win and keep it going Dallas.

11. Denver Broncos (9) – The Broncos came out flat on O and D and were badly shut out for most of the first half. Their D was VAUNTED during pre-game as the ‘best this’ ‘best that’. They are being schooled by Shaun Hill. The Broncs may yet win this game but that was an ugly first half. The Broncos got manhandled in St. Louis. What used to be uncharacteristic for Manning, multiple picks, has now become commonplace. One is an accident and two is a trend. Peyton Manning has now been picked off at least 2x a game, 3 games in a row. The D was poor and inefficient. They got smoked and they don’t look like a good team.

12. Houston Texans (20) – Ryan Mallett’s first start is going great. He looks in control and confident and has the Texans in a nice lead on the road. Can the Texans keep up the pressure, we will have to see! The Texans played a great game. Mallett may make all the difference to this team. He doesn’t toss multiple picks, he commands the O and has a great arm. The D can relax and just play without being burdened by short fields. This change may save the Texans and they may still have a shot at the playoffs. A good win for them.

13. Cleveland Browns (11) – The Browns have started poorly and Hoyer is inefficient and the Brown D is getting pushed about. If not for a red zone pick by Cleveland, this game would be a blowout already. The Browns need to play harder. The Browns had another bad game and this was at home. The D couldn’t make the stops and they couldn’t get any real points. A really bad game and this team regressed badly today.

14. Philadelphia Eagles (8) – I guess everyone can ratchet back the ‘Sanchez is a great QB’ talk. Philly showed up for the start of the game and got quickly destroyed. The D has been massacred and they are even having trouble snapping the ball. Can they wake up and come back from a 27 point deficit? I am doubting it. The Eagles have been utterly destroyed. Any garbage points they score late notwithstanding. They were on the receiving end of a fifty burger. That D, which people had spoken lovingly about, showed its worth. The Eagles better bring it on Thanksgiving or Dallas will make sure they eat more than Turkey that day.

15. St. Louis Rams (19) – Superb play by D and O gave the Rams a nice lead. Hill is looking sharp at QB and the Ram pass rush is putting great pressure on Peyton. A great first 30 but an open question as to if they can hold on to win. Amazing game by St. Louis. This is the third great win for this team. Their Defense can make the difference when it gives a 60 minute effort. Hill was solid at QB and it is not beyond possible that if they play like this, week 12 – 17 they may yet have a shot at the playoffs.

16. Pittsburgh Steelers (17) – The Steelers beat the Titans but man did they have to work hard to do it. Their D had to fight for it and was barely able to do what it took to sneak out a win. Ditto for the O who managed to use a strong running game to just squeak by a demonstrably worse team. If I am Pittsburgh I am not too pleased with that effort. They better work on getting it together on the bye as they still have a shot to make the playoffs but they must play better.

17. San Diego Chargers (18) – The Chargers seem to be mailing it in again. I know it must be hard to get energy up to play Oakland but COME ON San Diego. They are just doing enough to have a small lead but they should be way out in front. They could blow this if they aren’t careful. The Chargers never really tried and they barely scraped by with an ugly win. It will be interesting to see if they can be more motivated as they start to take on top flight teams.

18. Indianapolis Colts (7) – The Colts seem to have been a mirage. They now just fold when faced with a modicum of D. Luck is no longer able to carry this team out of the holes it falls in. If they don’t do a major head shake and get it together…they may yet lose the division to the suddenly hard charging Houston Texans. It is make or break time for Indy.

19. Detroit Lions (5) – The battle of the 2 NFC elite in the desert is on and Detroit is finding it hard to score against the Cardinal D. They have been burned by two pass TDs and they are being pushed about even with their vaunted run D. They have to really give all they can and keep the stupid penalties to a minimum or they won’t have a shot in this game. The Lions were never able to get any sort of yardage against a real D. The Same old Sorry Ass Lions finally had their moment of definition on national tv. They are not as good as their record. They are just a bad team, with a good record (for now).

20. Atlanta Falcons (23) – Like a scientific experiment…when two awful things face each other, can one rise above the other? The Falcons so far have shown that isn’t true as they have stumbled to a first half 3-3 tie. The Falcons used some golden turnovers from Caaaam to take a nice lead then their crappy D let the Panthers back in it. If not for a really easy field goal being missed, they would have lost. Ok, they are in first in their division. The other fact is…this team SUCKS.

21. New Orleans Saints (16) – Ugly is how one can describe the early effort of the Saints. Baffling how the offense can struggle with all those weapons. They need to figure out how to take on the Bengal D during halftime or this game is over. The game was over. They never figured out how to stop the Bengals and their O couldn’t get anything going. It appears the sun is setting on the career of Drew Brees. The Saints D is just terrible and with the O no longer able to score every 60 seconds every game is a battle – home or away. I think they are only still alive because everyone in their division is terrible but in reality this team is bad and getting worse.

22. Buffalo Bills (21) – The Bills came out on a short week and were only able to move the ball between the 20’s. I heard non-stop how Kyle Orton was the saving grace of the franchise and that he had better numbers than Jim Kelly or Joe Ferguson. After I got up off the floor I watched him be unable to get touchdowns and he led his team to a loss. They are now 3-3 under Orton and 2-2 under EJ. Scuffling and losing with a young franchise QB grows a team, Manuel learns in these games. Scuffling and losing with ancient Orton, Orton learns how to keep cashing a check. A team whose hot start is a distant memory and their season is basically done.

23. Minnesota Vikings (22) – The Vikings have been up and down to start the game. The D has been hurt by the pass and Bridgewater isn’t getting the ball to his receivers – that is key to beating a poor Bear D. They trail and need to get more efficient on O to win this game. The Vikings D poor tendencies reared their head again today. Terrible pass defense let them get picked apart and they couldn’t score enough to make up the deficit. They lost a game in Chicago and very few teams do that anymore.

24. New York Jets (27) – On the bye and they had one of their better weeks as so many teams stunk…this pile of patooie looked good by just not playing. If they beat Buffalo they can legitimately move up next week.

25. Jacksonville Jaguars (28) – On the bye and they had one of their better weeks as so many teams stunk…this pile of galoopally looked good just by not playing. If they beat Indy they can legitimately move up next week.

26. Carolina Panthers (26) – When a bad team is at home and plays a bad team it can lead to a lot of things, like a 3-3 snorefest tie at the half. Caaaaaam turned an ugly game into a nightmare by tossing picks. The Panthers battled back against a porous D but lost when their kicker missed a 36 odd yarder. Pretty good definition of the Panther season. A team that has some D but really needs to dig for O.

27. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (29) – No one that I know thought the Bucs would have a shot here. They are playing gutsy with points off turnovers. They have a slim lead and their D is having a field day against a really rotten O line. The Buccaneers had arguably their best game of the year here. They won a game in a romp, on the road. Good passing, solid rush O and good D. I think this game has to be understood as a one off. Most teams won’t play that bad O line as the Skins did. It is a win and they are laughingly still in consideration in the WORST division in football.

28. Chicago BEARS (31) – Chicago started very slow but managed to get the ball to their key receivers and have jumped out to a nice lead. Cutler has tossed a pick already and he is a pick 6 waiting to happen. All in all though it is a great start for the sad sack Bears. Real doubt their D can hold this lead. The Bears won a game at home, which is a revelation in itself. Cutler didn’t play like a complete tool and made some good throws. I even witnessed Bears defenders making TACKLES. It is a win. They still are a poor excuse for a Bear team but they finally won a game at home.

29. New York Giants (25) – Eli is tossing picks and that is taking away from his one TD. The Giants D is doing a good job stopping the Niners in the red zone but they still trail and this seems like another second half blowout to come. The Giants had a zillion opportunities in this game. Eli being picked off half a zillion times didn’t help. They have a shot to win it right to the end and couldn’t. 5 losses in a row, I think the Giants need to make some hard decisions about the future of this team. Time for their Coach and QB to consider riding off into the sunset.

30. Washington Redskins (24) – RGIII has turned it over twice. No surprise as the right tackle has been doing his best impersonation of a tackle dummy and allows free runs at RGIII’s throwing side. Bad O-line play hampered Cousins and now it hampers RGIII. They need to change O linemen not switch QBs. Poor first half effort. They added a horrible second half effort and that added up to a terrible game. The Redskins were just bad. When your O line doesn’t block anyone it is impossible to score points. A very ugly game by a very bad team. Now one wonders what is worse, their O line or their entire D?

31. Tennessee Titans (30) – The Titans gave a super effort and nearly beat Pittsburgh. If they can keep up that kind of effort they will not be in 31 very long. Mettenburger is a legit QB and that D is solid if it just tries all game. Somewhere in the mess that is the Titans, there is a real football team. Maybe they can get it going and end the year strong? We will see.

32. Oakland Raiders (32) – The Raiders are on the road and haven’t looked terrible. They haven’t gotten anything with their ground game. Their passing game has been mostly stymied. They have turned the ball over and they punt a lot. They are only down by 7 at the half, a moral victory. The Raiders gave what all they had and they lost by only a touchdown. Carr tries hard. On the positive I think Oakland may just have a running back. Murray, the 6th round pick from Central Florida, shows promise. If I was Oakland I would be featuring this kid the rest of the year. Khalil Mack continues to show why he is the Defensive Rookie of the Year. Good effort. Keep it up, use Murray, you may just win one yet.

NFL Power Rankings

1. Arizona Cardinals (1) – The Cardinals are battling and despite a fair effort, they trail in the first 1/2. There is a feeling that the Cards will eventually will out in this game. Will be interesting to watch. The Cards battled, Carson got hurt (again) and then the backup put up a key TD and then the D exploded, took the Rams apart and they won the game going away. They were described tonight by an idiot in the broadcasting booth as ‘lipstick on a pig’. That is the definition of the 7-2 Lions. It will be good to watch Arizona play Detroit. If this team loses to Detroit, I will then respect Detroit.

2. New England Patriots (2) – On the bye. The Patriots have pulled their franchise back from the brink with wins over, politely speaking, not the best in the NFL. They will have to keep this rolling for the rest of the season and they need to do their work against some legit teams. They beat on Denver. Can they beat on a few more big boys? We will see.

3. Kansas City Chiefs (3) – Having difficulty getting their O to work on the road and are trailing early. The Chiefs are still struggling on the road and need to get focus on their fundamentals or they will just be trailing all game. KC pulled out a victory on the road after being dominated by the Bills D for most of the game. Well done KC, now you must continue to show guts in the tough part of the sked.

4. Seattle Seahawks (5) – The Seahawks struggled and looked poor for the first half and I was again questioning if this team had any heart still. In about 7 minutes in the 4th quarter, they chewed up the Giants and spit them out. A poor 45 and a great 15 minutes. It’s a win!

5. Detroit Lions (7) – Lions off to a good start using their key weapons of Bush/Stafford and Megatron. The Lions are playing good D, decent O and have a bit of control on their usual retinue of penalties. We will see if they can keep it up. The Lions barely managed to pull out a win. They are 7-2 and lead their division and that is all well and good but for the life of me, they just don’t look elite. I can’t get away from the gut feeling this is being done with mirrors.

6. Green Bay Packers (8) – The Pack are on fire. They came out and just dissected the Bears. Rodgers has a myriad of weapons that he uses at will. The D is playing good enough to keep things difficult for opposing O’s. Right now this is one of the hottest teams in the NFL and right now I wouldn’t be surprised to see them in the NFC Championship game battling to make the Super Bowl. On a roll.

7. Indianapolis Colts (7) – on the bye. They had a rotten game in the first half and they have had some great ones. If the Colts can play like the team they can be for the rest of the season they will be odds on fave to be in the AFC Championship game. If they stink out the joint a couple of times then they leave the door open for others. Going to be something to watch.

8. Philadelphia Eagles (13) – The Eagles came out with a solid game plan and were quickly aided by back to back turnover that led directly to 10 points. The Eagles D had their best game of the year (against one of the most offensively challenged teams in the league mind you). Sanchez was decent. He was not all that and he was actually less than I thought he would be but he does enough to help a team win. They won the game going away and now are about 2 weeks from the Thanksgiving match-up that will help decide their division.

9. Denver Broncos (14) – The Broncos came out asleep and quickly fell behind the Raiders. Yes. They fell behind the Raiders. Luckily for them they gave their heads a shake and got a kick in their behind and now they have a lead and are slowly putting this out of reach. Peyton finally got it in gear and rolled up the Raiders and put a 40 burger on them and then took a rest. Nice win. Now beat someone who is good.

10. San Francisco 49ers (16) – The Niners have jumped out to a quick lead and need to really pile it on as they have issues holding leads. The Niners have a good lead at the half and can hold the lead in this game with good D and ball control offense in the 2nd half. Can they? The Niner D faded in the 4th quarter and were barely able to get a tie and go to OT. Can they get the win yet? Through the help of New Orleans creating a new kind of turnover, the Niners won. It is said their season is saved. I say they are 5-4 so let’s not buy tickets to the Super bowl yet if you are a SF fan.

11. Cleveland Browns (12) – The Browns came out and showed the shut down D they had when they dismantled the Steelers. The Brown D was impressive and simply took over the game. The Brown O was efficient and the game was over pretty quickly. If Cleveland can do this against Baltimore then this division is theirs.

12. Cincinnati Bengals (4) – The Bengals stunk in prime time, again. Dalton looks terrible as a QB. He can’t throw the fade, he makes poor decisions and looks so often as a deer does in headlights. The Bengals D had issues dealing with the run and pass. A colossal collapse and now their entire season is in doubt.

13. Miami Dolphins (10) – The Fins are in a tough battle on the road and are having trouble covering a healthy Megatron. Tannehill is battling but he, more than most knows that Red zone turnovers are rat poison. The Dolphins need to play tighter to have a shot in this game. I give the Dolphins credit for playing this game very well and doing everything right but winning. A great effort but now they must turn around and play a division game on Thursday.

14. Baltimore Ravens (15) – The Ravens appear to be trying to beat the holiday postal rush and are mailing this one in early. The Ravens are being hamstrung by questionable play by their QB Flacco and that is hurting their chances at the half. The Ravens continued to battle and slowly pulled away for a win. It was a lot harder than it should have been but a win is a win.

15. Dallas Cowboys (17) – The Cowboys evidently thought they didn’t need to prepare to play this game and it shows early as their D is terrible and they trail early. Tony Romo has got it going in Merry Ol’ England and has the Cowboys out to a good lead. Dallas was able to take control and just ease off the gas pedal and win the game going away. Workmanlike victory and now they need to still rush the ball like they did earlier or good teams will beat them.

16. New Orleans Saints (11) – The Saints have started slow and will have to wage another comeback here. New Orleans has nowhere to go but up. They are in a hole and need to be efficient on O to make a comeback happen. The Saints stormed back and had a lead but a ridiculously bad D play has put them in OT. Can they win the game? Nope. They fumbled the ball inside their own 20 in OT to lose the game. That is a 1 oz. gold bar of a turnover dipped in pure .99999 platinum. Nice loss New Orleans, now even your ‘can’t lose at home’ thing is gone.

17. Pittsburgh Steelers (6) – Pittsburgh evidently decided they didn’t need to show up for this game and are suddenly in a deep hole. Can they wage a comeback or is this another blowout loss waiting to happen? The Steelers are giving a lesson in my golden rule (Turnovers are gold). The constant picks and fumbles have them very deep in a hole and one has to wonder now if they can come back. The simple answer is no. I will go back to what I said last week. The Steelers are what they are. They just lost to a horrible Jet team and they had their passing offense dominated by the worst defensive secondary in the NFL. Pittsburgh you are BAD.

18. San Diego Chargers (19) – On the bye. This team had the first half under control until they stunk out the joint in a game they had to win. Their schedule gets brutal now so good luck SD in winning 7.

19. St. Louis Rams (18) – The Rams are battling early and even have a lead at the half. One wonders if they can get enough 2nd half O to win this game. The easy answer was no. The Rams suddenly found themselves facing the buzz saw of the Cardinal D and in seconds the game was over. A pretty good effort for about 45 minutes then splat. An ugly finish.

20. Houston Texans (21) – On the bye. We are, I think, all hopeful that the bye will bring us back Jadeveon Clowney and JJ Watt on the field together. The Texans are better than I thought they would be because of Foster’s good play. If they win 7 I will be impressed.

21. Buffalo Bills (20) – Superb Bills D early has them in control of this game. Their O scored a 7 early but have started to stumble and need to get a few more points to be better able to get this win. The Bills gave their all but it seems that Kyle Orton is not the answer. The Bills D played a super game and if the O had just gotten another TD, they could have won this one.

22. Minnesota Vikings (22) – On the bye. The Vikings have to be happy to be 4-5 now. They must continue to see growth with Bridgewater and they must continue to keep that Neanderthal Child whipping psycho off their team. The Vikes have a shot at 8-8 and that would be good.

23. Atlanta Falcons (28) – The Falcons have only one thing going for them and that is that Tampa seems to be playing worse than them so far. It is a tribute to how bad Atlanta is that this game is so close at the half. Whichever teams plays worse will lose. The Falcons got another TD and put the game away. Don’t anyone start making post-season plans here. They have swept Tampa Bay; they haven’t swept the best teams in the league.

24. Washington Redskins (24) – On the bye. The Redskins have seen 3 QBs and many forms of loss. It won’t matter who is under center if that D plays as bad as they have this year. A team that needed to get a lot better on the bye.

25. New York Giants (23) – The Giants played 30+ solid minutes of football and had a lead at the half. The G-men actually had the game going well beyond their best expectations. Suddenly, it was gone. They never showed up in the 4th quarter and were rolled over. Another terrible effort and this was just one quarter of a terrible effort but the results are the same.

26. Carolina Panthers (25) – The Panthers lost control of the game early with 2 back to back golden turnovers and they found themselves in a hole. Caaaaaaaaaaaaaam was never in rhythm and still looks hurt. The lack of offensive weapons hurt them and they just got pushed around and never had a shot. Ugly game and the real Panthers (bad, no scoring) are starting to appear.

27. New York Jets (31) – Excellent start for the Jets. They have managed to jump out to a big early lead but now need their rotten D to hold the lead so good luck with that! The Jet D keeps making picks and that is beyond understanding but well done Jets so far. They may just win this one unless they collapse. The Jets have won a game that was given to them on a silver platter. Win another and I will be impressed.

28. Jacksonville Jaguars (26) – The Jags have nothing to lose, playing in their ‘2nd’ home park. All they have to do is keep battling and they will stay in this game against a disinterested opponent. The Jags D is the culprit to their trailing at the half. They have having issues both stopping the run and covering the pass. The Jacksonville D wasn’t able to get the job done and now they have a long flight, no bye and likely being totally out of sorts when they play next week.

29. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (27) – Early returns are just terrible and the Bucs need to tighten up the early terrible mental mistakes or this will be over fast. The Bucs are still in the game and it is just a battle of bad going on here. The Bucs win the prize for being the worst team. McCown is no help at all and the Bucs D is poor and the Bucs coaching is bad and this team is just bad.

30. Tennessee Titans (29) – Mettenberger is performing well against what should be a stout Raven D. The Titans are playing pretty well and are keeping themselves in this game. The Titans seemed to run out of gas and never get involved in any sort of effort to win this game after the first 15 minutes. A team that seems to be going through the motions.

31. Chicago Bears (30) – Turn out the lights, the party is over. Stick a fork in them…any other analogy you like please insert here _ _ _ _. The Bears came out with their season on the line and Jay Cutler just melted into a puddle of nothingness. Bad throws, bad reads, picks galore, fumbles. The game was over in 2 minutes. It is now time for Chicago Bears lawyers to figure out how to, as cheaply as possible, get out from under the Cutler contract.

32. Oakland Raiders (32) – Great start for Oakland and I would say it’s a moral victory to have led Denver by 4 points for a period of time in this game. The Raiders now have three legit things going for them. Sparano is a quality coach and deserves a 4-year, no cut, contract to build this team. Carr is the best Rookie QB in the league and gives Oakland their best QB since Rich Gannon in 99. Khalil Mack is a superb LB and will be the QB of the Raider D for the next decade. Be patient, grow with this troika, and watch the wins in 2018. In this game, they are just being overwhelmed but that isn’t a surprise. The Raiders were crushed but they never had a chance.

There you have it! As always I enjoy sharing my in game and post game thoughts with everyone! I also enjoy every thought, agreement, comment, argument…just read it if you like! I will always take cash, preferably tens and twenties!

MR N’s #NFL Week 9 Power Poll‏

NFL Power Rankings

1. Arizona Cardinals (2) – Carson Palmer is good for a couple of picks a game so he got a golden pick six out of his system early. Now the Cards need to show heart to come back and score after this. The Cards are battling but having issues getting points. Cards O and D starting to be heard from and Arizona is taking over the game in the third. The Cardinals won this going away. An absolute brilliant game and this team is a force to be reckoned with.

2. New England Patriots (3) – The Patriots couldn’t have designed the first half better if they were playing it on paper. To take the ball away early, stop Denver O on almost every turn and score at will? Now they need to see if they are not often tested D can hold a near three TD lead for a victory. Classic great Patriot game. They tore apart the Broncos and dominated the entire game. Now the Pats are on a roll and currently the best team in the AFC.

3. Kansas City Chiefs (4) – A quick early TD has the Chiefs out in front of a bad team. Going exactly as one would think, the Chiefs are well in front early. Chiefs aren’t able to blow the Jets out early but they are nicely out in front and in control. In the end, a workmanlike win. They scored enough, stopped enough on D, and won it by two TDs. Good game.

4. Cincinnati Bengals (5) – Cincy appears to have quasi mailed it in and are struggling against a demonstrably worse team. The Bengals have clawed (pun intended) into a short lead and one has to assume that time is on their side and the Jags will fade. The Bengals should have stomped a mud hole in the Jags and they had to fight to win this one. They had better bring more to Thursday or they could be in last place in their division in 4 days.

5. Seattle Seahawks (6) – Seattle is in control but not dominating the way everyone on the planet thought they would. What was startling was the comment made that Seattle was having trouble coming up with answers for the Raiders D. The RAIDERS D. I still can’t understand that. The Seahawks got this game under control, fell into the usually useless prevent D and barely got away with a slim win. Ugly. It is a win but that is the dictionary definition of an ugly win.

6. Pittsburgh Steelers (16) – We fall to the always popular, you are what you are. Pittsburgh is now first place in their division. They totally dismantled then blew away the Ravens. On the back of destroying the Colts, this Steelers O has now put up 94 points in the last 2 weeks. They have the Jets coming up so one would think, barring a total mail it in collapse; Pittsburgh will be 7-3 after week 10. The Steelers are on a legit roll and if they can keep the O rolling and the D playing decently then they can control this division. Excellent win.

7. Detroit Lions (7) – On the bye. They are 6-2 and by definition are the best team in the NFC North and one of the two top teams in the NFC. I cannot get around the fact they are beyond lucky and just aren’t very good. They will either fade away, win the division and be one and done or win the Super Bowl and we’ll all just scratch our heads and say ‘how did that happen’?

8. Green Bay Packers (8) – On the bye. The Pack needed this to rest the most important hamstring they have (Aaron Rodgers’ hammy probably has it’s on status face book page) and they need to figure out their plan for the 2nd half. They need to tighten up the D. They still have a shot at the division (will take a lot of work) and at a wild card (less work)…it is all on the D.

9. Indianapolis Colts (13) – The Colts dominated the game from almost the start and the final score wasn’t even close to representing how much of a butt whipping they put on New York. Good win.

10. Miami Dolphins (12) – The Fin D has started out strong and the O scored first. This could bode well for Miami today. The Dolphins have a two score lead and are looking all world in the first half. Tannehill is performing superbly again and that is his second or third great game. He is legitimately developing into a quality NFL QB. The game is going better than Miami could have dreamed by being way ahead in a blowout. A great game, super play by O and D. Superbly done. Are the Fins for real?

11. New Orleans Saints (19) – The Saints came out flat on O. They moved the ball but critical red zone turnovers kept them off the scoreboard. Their D bent but didn’t break and held a sad excuse for a Panther O scoreless until finally Brees got it rolling and in less than 2 minutes the game was over. A really good win for the now first place Saints and on the road on a Thursday. They have the division in hand and a pretty easy sked ahead of them.

12. Cleveland Browns (15) – Early struggles, Hoyer needs to get it going this week. The Browns have been able to kick a lot of FGs and then took advantage of a dumb Buc D penalty and have a decent lead now. The Browns had to work very hard against a not very good team to get this win. They now have a shot to make a move in their division if they can win a big battle on Thursday. Right now, on the strength of this effort, I would seriously doubt their chances.

13. Philadelphia Eagles (14) – Maclin gets the Eagles out to a quick lead and that is what helps the Eagles perform. With Foles hurt, the Eagles turn to Sanchez (The Butt Fumbler) and now the game is an open question. The Eagle D is keeping a relatively vanilla Texan O in the game and Houston still has a shot. The Eagles had to work hard but they got the job done on the road. A solid win with D playing kinda poorly at times.

14. Denver Broncos (7) – Came out of the gate slow, Peyton got picked, the D played like veritable ten tons of crap and before anyone knew it, they were down by about 20. They have to play lights out in the second half just to make this a close game. They never had a shot and were pummeled from start to finish. A rottten game, and they had ten days to figure this one. Terrible. I question the Bronco heart.

15. Baltimore Ravens (9) – The Ravens went to Pittsburgh with the division lead on the line and they got destroyed. Punished on O, pushed about on D. One wonders now which is the real Raven team. Their inconsistency finally has hurt them in their battle for the division and it is so tight that division losses like this one may hurt come January. Bad, bad game.

16. San Francisco 49ers (10) – San Francisco seems to have not used their bye to get ready for this game. The D has its moments but the Offense is just scuffling and struggling and they will have just under 10 minutes to try to win this game. This just in, they couldn’t win it. The Niners failure on offense to get anything really going is damning to the hopes of this team. They blew a winnable game at home and looked bad doing it. Coming off a bye, losing a division game like this? Horrible. So much for this team having an open road to the playoffs. It is uphill slugging now.

17. Dallas Cowboys (11) – The Cowboy D got a great play early and now Weeden has a lead to work with. Cowboys are in a tough one but the D is really doing well early. Weeden throwing a lot and not to Bryant and his red zone picks are deadly to this team. The Cowboys have to be the stupidest team on the planet (and that is saying something!) The Cowboys lost badly and that is the third loss for them. Every time they lose, they pass more than they run. I said they can’t get cute or it will cost them. They have gotten cute 1/3 of the time. They had better run more in the second half or they will be in trouble.

18. St. Louis Rams (23) – The Ram D came to play today. Their pass rush is terrific and their coverage has been excellent. If the Rams had any sort of productive offense they would be running away with this game rather than tied early in the 4th quarter. The Rams managed to use some effective special teams to set up a FG and then continued to play solid D (with the odd bad secondary play late) to win an improbable victory. That is exactly how this team can be successful. 60 minutes of insanely tough D and a few lucky breaks. Solid win.

19. San Diego Chargers (17) – The Chargers haven’t won in Miami in a long time and their play in the first quarter isn’t helping that. SD has no answer on offense and their D can’t make the stops and are getting into a deepening hole. Being utterly destroyed. The thing San Diego has to realize is their schedule becomes impossible after their bye. By losing this game, they may very well be looking 6-10 in the face. The Chargers should just ashamed and they looked like garbage. The team is falling apart.

20. Buffalo Bills (20) – On the bye. Who would have thought the Bills would be this far above .500 on their bye? I thought they would only win 4. They are well on their way to what I predicted a ‘superbowl’ year for them with 8 wins. Good to watch some success for this team. Can they sneak into the playoffs? Will be fun to watch.

21. Houston Texans (18) – The Texan O line is being pushed around by the Eagle D and the Texan D has been caught out of place so this is a pretty poor start for Houston at home. The Texan D knocked out Foles and that has helped the Texans’ O about as good as anything. The Texans are battling and being much more competitive than anyone thought they would. Decent effort but losing Foster late to injury stopped any hope they had. A tough loss.

22. Minnesota Vikings (24) – The Vikes have had chances early but Bridgewater MUST become more accurate on his deep balls. It is costing Minnesota sure TDs. The problems on the Minnesota D are bad and getting worse. One has to wonder how defensive guru Zimmer has a team this bad on D playing for him? The Vikings have started to be felt in this game with better D and some offensive points. Leading in the third but need their D to hold a lead which they have a lot of trouble doing. The Vikings D actually held a lead when it mattered and they got a win. I don’t think they will win any awards for this one but a win is a win.

23. New York Giants (21) – We now know which team showed up, the bad one. They got schooled. Their coverage was terrible and they could do little against a questionable Colts D. An ugly game.

24. Washington Redskins (22) – Offense struggling early to get any good production. RGIII suddenly on fire and the Washington O is looking better than it has in weeks and they have an early lead. The Skins have still struggle to score and their D is making mistakes and penalties and that is putting them in trouble on the road. The Redskins stormed back to take a lead but then the Redskins D couldn’t seal the deal and they lost a close one.

25. Carolina Panthers (25) – The Panther D played a really solid 28 minutes or so. That is the good news. They didn’t play a great last 32 minutes and the O was flaccid and they barely got ten points. A team who’s D is not good now and whose O sucks. Hope they enjoyed first place as that is just going to be a dream and the season’s highlight already in the rear-view mirror.

26. Jacksonville Jaguars (26) – Jags are battling on the road and are still in the game. Bortles is having significant trouble getting anything going and the D has played well but is getting tired. That was the tale of this game. The Jag D played hard for as long as they could and the Jag O got some points but not enough. A fair effort but a ten-point loss.

27. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (27) – It appears the Bucs are trying to feel out the Browns D and see how the game plan looks early. The Bucs are doing the classic bend not break D but giving up 3’s and then a seven has them in a hole that their stumbling O may not be able to recover from. The O couldn’t recover. Glennon did some good things and some horrible things and in the end, they were within five but that still counts as a loss.

28. Atlanta Falcons (28) – On the bye. A team that is mathematically alive in their division but realistically is one of the worst in the NFL. Just how bad? The last half of their schedule will tell us.

29. Tennessee Titans (29) – A team that needs a bye and a good head shake. They play in fits and starts but have no consistency and I fear no heart. Hope they found one on the bye, perhaps visit a certain Wizard in Oz?

30. Chicago Bears (30) – On the bye and they have not looked this bad since before Walter Payton was drafted. Just a team playing terrible and need to find out if they want to battle or quit. It all starts in week 10 against Green Bay.

31. New York Jets (31) – That the Jets start the game down 7 and Vick having issues getting first downs should be surprising no one. The Jets have no O and their D is getting beat. Anyone surprised now? The Jets are lucky they have a TD and this is another long day for the sad sack Jets. The Jets did get some offense but in the end, it wasn’t enough to make up for their constant defensive liabilities. The Jets are just dismal.

32. Oakland Raiders (32) – The Raiders have played a pretty terrific game on the road. They have had not a lot of luck scoring on offense. Most of their points have come on special teams but the Raiders are playing a decent game. The Raiders never gave up and their D played a solidish game and the O took advantage against prevent D and brought it very close. They keep this up, they might win a game this year.
