Combine

NFL Combine Weekend Thoughts (I must work during CB/Safety workouts!)

I watched and saw and got a lot of impressions…

About QB – Winston is a superb talent and has great football IQ and on the field will be a great QB but…we learned he is mentally sharp, very intelligent and can really think through everything.  That means his “episodes” including the crab legs, his rant on a table top against his sister and his conveniently never charged assault on the girl…weren’t the bad decisions of a stupid kid.  These were the acts of a very intelligent person who really thinks things out.  That makes him potentially very scary.  I have a theory to have him be guaranteed effective and not an off field problem.  Keep in in a hyperbaric chamber – sealed until right before kickoff, then let him and and have him play then put him back in it after.

Mariota has all the measurable and just reminds me of Russell Wilson.  What team doesn’t want their own Russell Wilson?  I don’t see why Tennessee would take him but that franchise isn’t known for being smart in their football decisions.

TEs were under-whelming – the one I like is Kyle Williams who is a big body, good blocking, good hands guy.  He can be had round 2-5 so no worry about reaching into first for a TE this year.

WR seems to be a 2 man show with Cooper and White.  Both will go top ten and both should be nice additions to the NFL

There is only one ‘great’ OL man and that means if someone needs one they must get into the top ten of the draft.  His name is Scherff.

There are at least 3 great D line men and I will be very happy to see Shelton, a nose tackle ala Ngata, land with my BEARS.  Someone will get Leonard Williams and he will potentially be a force to be reckoned with.

There is one exceptional RB available and if Minnesota is going to part ways with the child beater then they need to add Melvin Gordon.  If he slides then Arizona would be happy to land him.

2 funny moments…

1. Mike Mayock rapping lol

2. The coach had to stop the onfield drills by the linebackers as they were so bad and not doing it right they had to do it again.  That has NEVER happened.  Don’t you want to draft a LB who can’t follow instructions and doesn’t care that every team is watching?

Anything catch your eye?

Pre Combine Thoughts Amongst Other Things‏ #NFL #NFLCombine

Combine

Saw today that Mariotta and Winston are both allegedly going to throw on Saturday at the combine. That would be great and beyond refreshing.  I believe the cynic in me will believe it when I see it.  Projected top QBs can never throw, their agents never let them.

Saw that Josh McCown is going to Chicago to discuss being the backup again.  Eeek.
Saw just today on Total ACCESS that Jameis Winston is ‘not a risk’ because he didn’t violate FSU’s code of conduct.  My thinking is if nothing Winston has done violates that code…I do not wish to see what a player has to do to violate it.
Happy Combine watching people.  As you know I am crazy so when not at work and on the weekend I will be watching every second of it that I can!

MR N’s #NFL Football Thoughts This Week‏ #NFLMusings

–          Josh Gordon has failed yet another drug/alcohol test and now may be suspended for a year and more by the NFL.  For a 23 year old who is a great receiver this is very sad.  I can only hope he can get his life together.  I want him to succeed in life even if it’s too late for the NFL.  Cleveland is going to cut bait with this guy.

–          Gronk does a lot of stupid things off the field but I have to give him full props for chugging a beer that was tossed to him during the SuperBowl parade and then spiking the empty in the street! Well done!

–          Dick LeBeau is now looking for another NFL team to work with.  That man needs to go fishing.

–      I have never been a Manziel fan but I sincerely hope rehab helps him get control of his life.  He needs that to live even if he isn’t successful at football

–          The Bucs cut Josh McCown about one year too late as they never should have signed him

As they come to me, I will present them in a weekly or more often fashion!

MR N’s #NFL #SuperBowl Power Poll‏ #NFLRankings

NFL Power Rankings

1. New England Patriots (2) – The Patriots came out with an effective plan and were able early to take full advantage of a D that didn’t seem to want to stop it.  They were stifled trying to run the ball but were able to use the pass to make a number of long drives for TDs.  The picks by Brady are telling and show that he is not the QB he was 10 or even 5 years ago.  That this team came from 10 points down and took the lead and then that their D was able to make the stop is amazing.  I give New England full credit for taking advantage of their opportunity.  They clearly wanted this game more and played hard for 60.  I think Tom Brady and Bill Belichick need to quickly announce their retirements.  Get out while on top and let the door hit you on the ass on the way out.  Don’t come back, I beg you…let this be the glorious end to two glorious careers.

2. Seattle Seahawks (1) – I said pre-game that if early on the D is just letting the Pats move the ball all over I would just sit there scratching my head.  I scratched it a lot in the game.  How can a team, who’s D has been beyond dominant most of the last 10 weeks, simply be not prepared for a Super Bowl?  I have to hope that the injuries were far more severe than we know.  That might explain the terrible effort put on by the D for most of the game.  Russell Wilson and the O did a magnificent job getting those 24 points.  Being up by 10 in the 4th quarter should have been game over.  I cannot fathom how the Seahawk D let the Pats march the field twice.  If I was Atlanta, I would think twice about hiring this D co-ordinator…they had two full weeks to prepare and it seems the D didn’t bring their A game.  Shameful.  They were the best team they just played second best today.

3. Green Bay Packers – Not sure I agree on Rodgers as MVP.  Playing QB with a sore leg makes you the MVP?

4. Indianapolis Colts

5. Dallas Cowboys – DeMarco Murray was O player of the year and gets my vote for MVP.

6. Denver Broncos

7. Carolina Panthers

8. Baltimore Ravens – early co-co fave for SuperBowl 50.  I think that should have been announced on April 1st is that has to be a joke.  They barely got into the playoffs, their QB is vastly overrated and their D has extreme issues.

9. Pittsburgh Steelers

10. Detroit Lions

11. Arizona Cardinals – Well deserved coach of the year.  The Cardinals, with a QB, could be the team that keeps Seattle out of SuperBowl 50.

12. Cincinnati Bengals

13. Houston Texans – JJ Watt was the no doubt Defensive POY.  He would have been a good MVP choice.

14. Kansas City Chiefs

15. Buffalo Bills

16. San Diego Chargers

17. Atlanta Falcons – They hired Dan Quinn, late of Seattle’s D Co-ord job as their head coach.  Good luck.  He will bring the same D to Atlanta as soon as they have the LOB.

18. Miami Dolphins

19. New York Giants

20. Oakland Raiders – Huge congrats to Tim Brown for making the HOF.  I had the pleasure of watching his whole career and this guy was a great a WR as he was a kick and punt returner.  Amazing player.

21. Philadelphia Eagles

22. Jacksonville Jaguars

23. San Francisco 49ers

24. New Orleans Saints

25. Minnesota Vikings

26. New York Jets

27. St. Louis Rams

28. Cleveland Browns – Johnny Manziel has gone into rehab.  Good for him.  I hope he gets the help he needs and turns his young life around.  He needs to get back in control if he wants success in living and not just the NFL.

29. Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Stupidity award goes to Warren Sapp.  Good thing he was great at football because he’s terrible at living life.  A lot of pros and ex-pros hire escorts.  To hire one and then refuse to pay and create a scene that gets you arrested? Sapp needs severe help.

30. Tennessee Titans

31. Chicago Bears

32. Washington Redskins

There you have it, as always I am happy to get any thoughts, comments, arguments or agreements.  I will be happy to accept money, preferably tens and twenties!
