NFL Power Rankings

1.            Arizona Cardinals (1) – A 108yd Kickoff return was about as easy as it could be for Zona and they are now trying to respond to the BEARS tying TD.  The scoring coming fast and furious.  The Zona D is bending but not breaking and have a slim lead at the half.  The Cardinals played a game of virtual pinball to serve a 40 burger on the hapless Bear D.  They were able to kind of take the day off on D and still rip a new one on the Bears.  Way to win a game you should win and in handy fashion.

2.            Denver Broncos (4) – The Broncos are a team that I cannot understand.  They are imposing an offense on Peyton.  They take the play call responsibility away from him for large parts of the game.  Manning has been calling his own plays for something like 15 years.  He is struggling mightily in those areas.  In the first half Denver looked easily beaten.  Manning had to call some of the plays and in the 2nd half that got the Broncos some points.  A late turnover won them a game they could have lost.  They still have major issues. I don’t understand what Elway is letting Kubiak do.

3.            New England Patriots (2) – Pats responded well to a loud stadium and an early deficit to tie the game and show they are not going away quietly.  The Pats have kept the pressure on and using turnovers they have quieted a crowd and taken control of a key road game at the half.  The Pats had this game in hand and prevent D’d it into a close one but they won it in the end.  Brady had a huge day and he might not even cheated but one never knows with the New England Cheatriots.  A win but somehow they still aren’t number one in my poll – because they cheat.

4.            Green Bay Packers (11) – The Pack had a tough time getting it going in the first quarter but Rodgers turned it on and put the Pack out in front.  The D then got burned by Seattle and found themselves trailing going into the 4th quarter.  Rodgers went off again with a great drive and put the Pack in the lead to stay.  A super home win and this team is creeping up as one of the league’s best.

5.            Carolina Panthers (8) – The Panther D is shutting down Houston early.  It has been hard but Carolina has crept out to a lead and their D shows every sign of holding this lead.  Can they?  They held on and battled to a win.  Caaaaaaam showed his mettle and got the score to win the game with a brave if foolhardy dive into the end zone.  A gutsy win and a pretty nice 2-0 to start the year.

6.            Dallas Cowboys (10) – In a defensive struggle in the first half and holding a very slim lead.  Very little O to show for it.  Appears the loss of Dez has hurt them psychologically.  This game was pretty much the worst played excuse for an NFL game I have seen in years.  The Cowboys played badly, Romo got badly hurt, and the Cowboys played badly.  They got a couple of breaks and won the game.  Everyone in the world thinks they will be just fine without Romo for a couple of months.  Don’t be surprised if they go 2-6 in their next 8.

7.            St. Louis Rams (4) – Perhaps the Rams are hungover from their week 1 win as they look lethargic early.  The Rams are being whipped on O and D by Washington and that is just ridiculous inconsistency for a team with playoff aspirations.  The Rams have committed an unpardonable sin and lost a game to a team they are demonstrably better than.  They seem to be the same old Sorry Ass Rams.  Ugly loss.

8.            Seattle Seahawks (5) – The Seahawks came out flat and couldn’t get the rush O going.  When Russell Wilson is the best rushing weapon you know there are issues.  The Hawks did hang around and by the end of the third quarter Wilson had the team in the lead and all the D had to do is hold the Pack and the game was there’s.  So the Hawks let GB go the length of the field to lose the game.  They are 0-2 and need D help something fierce.  Perhaps they just need to get a deal done with Chancellor.  Ugly loss.

9.            Minnesota Vikings (15) – Super start for Vikes has Minnesota going well early.  Excellent play on O and D for Minnesota and they are nicely in control and may put this game away by the 3rd Q’s end.  The Vikings used a good O, nice running game and D that got it done to win a division battle nicely.  How this team lost a game to a rotten Niner team may be the reason they don’t make the playoffs in the end.  They are 1-1 but have to know in their hearts they oughtta be 2-0.

10.          Pittsburgh Steelers (16) – Big Ben kept at it and got a nice TD early.  The Steelers are in an unexpected battle early.  Super O, Great D.  To be fair, beating this sad excuse of a SF team isn’t that much of an accomplishment.  A fine win against a bad team.  You must win these games and kudos to Pitt for winning one they should have.  Nice win.

11.          Cincinnati Bengals (17) – Excellent start for Bengals on O and D and they could salt this away by the half if they can keep it up.  The Bengals D is now having issues dealing with the variety of SD weapons and the O needs to answer SD.  The Bengals got the lead and held on to it with decent D.  For this team this is a good win and one that can help them in their battle for a playoff spot.

12.          Atlanta Falcons (18) – The Falcons have an early lead in a tight battle.  The Falcons are playing decent D and still have a shot at this game at the half.  The Falcons battle and kept it close and allowed the G-men to give them the chance to win the game.  Ryan did it again and won a game for Atlanta that they could easily had lost.  They are a pretty ugly 2-0 and a very, VERY lucky 2-0.

13.          Buffalo Bills (6) – Great start for Buffalo but alas it didn’t last and now they have to show they can respond to the Pats scoring a TD.  The Bills need to know that turnovers are gold and that they can’t play anything but their best to beat the Division cheating bully.  Can they come back in the 2nd half?  The Bills got it within a score and fell again.  It really wasn’t as close as the final score.  Tyrod Taylor turned it over twice when it mattered and that decided the game. The illogical fact of the day is that Buffalo’s strong O line was dominated by a Pat D with no pass rush to allow 8 sacks. uh huh.  Not ready for prime time.

14.          Kansas City Chiefs (7) – The Chiefs had their shot. The Chiefs had the lead on a really bad looking Broncos team in the first half and Alex Smith’s incompetence is singularly responsible for them not having a 28-0 lead in the first half.  Sure Charles fumbled twice but the game should never have been within 7 points if they had a real QB.  They will never win a thing with that guy leading their team.  They are not ready for prime time part 2 this weekend.

15.          San Diego Chargers (12) -The Charger D is having loads of trouble early.  Will this be a case of SD not able to even travel to Ohio and play well?  The Chargers show no quit and are battling now and giving Cincy everything they can handle early in the 3rd Q.  The Chargers were not able to hold back the Bengals on O and they ended up being on the losing end of a close one.  One wonders if this team is ready to take the next step or are they the same Chargers team from the last 5 or 10 years?

16.          New York Jets (25) – The Jets are in rare air right now…they have Ryan Fitzpatrick doing more good things than bad.  This has never lasted in the NFL before so I am hesitant to be all in here.  The D is averaging 5 turnovers a game, which is a lot of gold, but history shows that is hard to maintain too.  The Jets O is efficient and the D is playing well above their pay grade.  A great showing.  A considerable doubt as to whether they can keep this up. Must be seen more to be believed.

17.          New Orleans  Saints (9) – The fact the Saints are in a scoreless first quarter is a real head scratcher.  It took almost 30 but the Saints have a slim lead.  Will they tear it open in the 2nd half?  No the Saints simply mailed it in, in a manner that probably used every postage stamp in Louisiana.  Ugly doesn’t begin to describe this loss and now they need to figure out what they can do to not lose like this again.  A horrible loss.

18.          Oakland Raiders (26) – Oakland is giving their all in the first half and are spirited on O if a little lax on D.  Can they do this for 60 minutes?  The Raiders gave their all and their offense was amazing!  Carr, Murray and the gang put up an offensive show that would make Rich Gannon and Jon Gruden proud.  A great win and let’s see if the Silver and Black will have this bring the pride back.  Well done!

19.          Houston Texans (14) – The Texan D is shutting down Carolina early.  The Texans now find themselves having to come back, on the road, against a tough D with a dysfunctional offense.  The Texans battled right to the final gun but in the end were one possession short.  Good D but not shutdown D.  Good QB play but not good enough to get it done. Close isn’t any good and 0-2 is horrible.  They may be done in their division and it’s week 2.

20.          Indianapolis Colts (13) – The Colts couldn’t suck more if they gameplanned it.  The mass turnovers by Luck aren’t out of character but the lack of mass TDs to make up for them is.  The O is lost and seems to need huge help on the porous O line.  The ‘weapons’ are silent with a non-existent run game and inconsistent passing game.  The D puts little pressure on the QB and the secondary is hollow after Vontae Davis (who commits too many penalties anyway).  The team is a mess. They can fix it and they are in a division to get it done but that is one ugly start to a season.

21.          Baltimore Ravens (19) – The Raven D is being tested by a feisty young Raider O and the O is battling to keep them close in the first half.  This team needs to concentrate in the 2nd half or this one might slip away from them.  The Ravens D was a sad excuse for itself and if that is only because Suggs is gone…then the Ravens have great issues.  The D let them fall behind and a bad throw by Flacco iced the loss.  0-2 and a team that is looking bad.

22.          Cleveland Browns (27) – Excellent start, Manziel looks super and the Browns have a good lead early.  The Browns have it going on O and D and special teams and are in the rare position of putting the game away.  Last year they could never hold a lead…will this year be different?  For a while it appeared like last year was going to happen again.  Tennessee came within 7 with 6 min left and I thought it was deja vu.  Then, John Manziel drove the team and fired a long TD to put the game away.  A new day has dawned in Cleveland and I am almost shocked to say it starts with John Manziel as their QB.  A great win.

23.          Jacksonville Jaguars (28) – I questioned openly if Bortles was a bust or not.  He has shown in the first half that he is the real deal.  Bullet passes, excellent footwork. He needs to do this all game and keep it up.  The Jags hung around all 2nd half.  A tired D managed to keep it tied and in the end, a gutsy and smart drive by Bortles led them to the game winning FG.  A superb win and a great effort for a team that has had few of either in the last few years.  It would be heartening if this was a turning of the page.  Super win.

24.          Washington Redskins (30) – Spirited Skins squad is bringing the heat to the Rams early.  The Skins are playing remarkable D and solid O and need to keep it up to steal a win here.  The Skins dominated on both sides of the ball and won this game handily.  Full credit to Washington.  They came to play and won it nicely. Well done.

25.          Tennessee Titans (24) – Mariota’s magic seems to be out of power early.  Turnovers are gold.  The Titans are getting schooled and Mariota is looking pedestrian this week. The Tennessee O can’t get anything going at the half.  Mariota showed what he had and driving the Titans to two TDs quickly and making the game close. The Titan D then dropped the ‘ball’ and let in a late score and down they went.  Not sure how good this team is but Mariota is a good franchise QB.

26.          Tampa Bay Buccaneers (32) – The Bucs are keeping the Saints off the board early which is a minor miracle.  The Bucs are battling and the rumors of their total lack of D may be exaggerated.  They need to do this for 60.  The Bucs did it for 60.  They played strong D and Winston showed guts and got the upset of the year done.  I don’t think there were 4 people on the planet who thought Tampa would win.  Well done.

27.          New York Giants (20) – The Giants needs to get the O working to get them 7 points.  The Giants D is playing well but they need to get more action on O or this could be a long day for New York in the 2nd half.  No one would ever have imagined that NY would badly mismanage the clock two weeks in a row and directly cause themselves to lose another game.  This is systemic and the year is slipping away as the wheels have come off already.

28.          Philadelphia Eagles (21) – The Eagle D is stepping up huge but the Eagle O is just not doing it so far.  They must get some O going or they will drop a key one at home.  The Eagles played like utter crap.  No rush, no pass. Bradford looked horrid, the D looked flaccid.  They are an ugly 0-2 and I think they are the ugliest 0-2.  Chip Kelly hopefully still can get a college job as he may be unemployed by mid-season 2016.

29.          Detroit Lions (22) – The Lions D is in some words chippy and in my words cheap shotting.  They are trailing the Vikes early and need to get going on O.  The Lions are being smoked by the Vikings and they look terrible and I find it funny.  The Lion offense is not going very far being led by Stafford and his brutally inconsistent play.  The D can’t make the stops and the O can’t score much.  Some still laughingly think this team will win the NFC North. I still think they will win only six.

30.          Miami Dolphins (23) – The Dolphin lines on O and D look suspect and Tannehill is single handedly keeping the fins in a game that they oughtta be winning easily.  How will they do in the 2nd half? The Dolphins continued to struggle on O and D and they kept the Jags in the game.  In the end the D was undisciplined and out of place and they watched a winnable game go splat.  What a loss for Miami and this shows the team is in serious trouble and not as good as many think they are.

31.          Chicago Bears (31) – Terrible special teams but a nice Cutler led TD drive has them still in the game early.  The Bears are answering TDs with FGs but on the positive Jay Cutler got hurt and that pretty much improves the BEARS o.  What will the 2nd half bring?  The 2nd half brought abysmal D and spotty O.  Losing the game by more than 3 scores exemplified the problems this laughable D has to deal with.  They were like a kitten being played with by a polar bear.  Ugly loss. Ugly 0-2.  The only good could be Cutler being out for any period of time.

32.          San Francisco 49ers (29) – The Niner D seems to have ability, I will continue to watch and see if they are for real somehow.  The thought that SF had anything was a mirage.  They look terrible and are being soundly thrashed by the Steelers.  The Niners do suck.  And suck and suck.  They were stomped on D and unable to do anything except score cheaply against prevent D.  A terrible team with no talent.

As always I love all thoughts, comments, arguments or agreements.  I appreciate someone reading my views.  I would also offer my analysis work to ESPN as some of theirs need help or I will take cash, preferably tens and twenties!

NFL Power Rankings

Week 1 Power Poll 2015

1.            Arizona Cardinals (3) – A terrific team win.  Palmer was solid, the running game was great with Ellington and then good with his backups.  The D was spot on and they had brave and gutsy coaching and sealed a great win over a team that could be in the playoffs.  Excellent win by an excellent team.

2.            New England Patriots (1) – The Pats came out with a plan and followed it to the letter, they covered Antonio Brown pretty well, pressured Big Ben, utilized an unblockable Gronk and lit up the scoreboard while interfering with Steeler headsets.  I have hit my limit with these guys.  They cheat.  They have been cheating for 15 years and have 4 Super Bowl titles to show for it.  I think they are lower than a snake belly or Barry Bonds.  They won but they will not be number one in my pool even if they go undefeated, as we will all know how they did it.  Cheaters.

3.            Denver Broncos (4) – A gutsy win that came on a defensive turnover for 6 points.  The Broncos offense was stumbling and Peyton Manning looked like the shell of himself that he has become.  The Broncs need to get their O working to have long-term success.  Not sure how long they can go simply on D, FGs and luck.  A good win nonetheless.

4.            St. Louis Rams (5) – The Rams O is struggling and their special teams needs to be tighter to get back into a tough divisional game at home.  Foles is finding it tough going against the Legion of Boom.  Will be a full 60 min battle.  No quit in these Rams as they battled back from behind and forced OT.  Super effort, great win.  They must build on this.

5.            Seattle Seahawks (2) – The Seahawk D is bringing it well and they are using special teams to get them an early lead on the road.  The Seahawks are in a battle and this will come down to the 4th quarter.  The Seahawks came from behind and had the game in hand late in the 4th then their D uncharacteristically blew it and it’s in OT.  They blew it in OT. I didn’t see this loss coming.  The D may just need Kam.

6.            Buffalo Bills (8) – Bills D strong but the O is still trying to move the ball down the field.  The Bills have come out firing on D and Taylor is getting it done on offense.  A great first half for Buffalo.  The Bills are imposing their will on Indy and dominating on the O line side.  Superb game.  What a superb start to the new Sexy Rexy Regime in Orchard Park.  The Bills won the game in the trenches and look like a team that wants to make a mark in 2015. Let’s see them do it next week!

7.            Kansas City Chiefs (12) – The Chiefs are dominating early.  The Chief O is exposing issues in the Texan secondary and their D is playing well.  In what has to be the surprise of the day, the Chiefs are blowing the Texans away.  It seems almost over now and there is 30 min left to go.  The Chiefs won the game going away and have started this season off with a bang.  Can they keep this level of excellence up?

8.            Carolina Panthers (11) – The Panthers are not playing the fierce D one expects early.  The Panthers managed to keep driving and finally got a small lead.  They need to concentrate or they may let a disinterested Jag team hang around and it will come back to hurt them.  The Panthers battled and won this game handily in the end.  It was a lot harder than it probably should have been.

9.            New Orleans Saints (7) – The Saints had opportunities right to the end.  Brees gave his all but he seemed overmatched by the Cardinal D.  Some of his passes batted down, sometimes he was batted down.  Their running attack was stifled and the defensive miscues not only cost them the game but started the infighting on the sidelines between Payton and Ryan the other.  Not a good loss.

10.          Dallas Cowboys (14) – They looked flat on O for the first half and struggled on D in the second half.  If not for a really bad call by NY the Cowboys would have likely lost their home opener again.  Romo drove for a late win.  The loss of Dez for a month or two may hurt more than this win helps.  An ugly game by an ugly team and they got a win they barely deserved.

11.          Green Bay Packers (15) – Surprising statement early is that Rodgers is being out played by Cutler in the first Quarter.  The Packers have had a great problem getting much offense going against the BEARS D which is a shock to many including a not very relaxed Aaron Rodgers early.  Rodgers kept going and in the end practically tossed as many TDs as incompletes.  It was more like a blowout but one prevent D outing made it a touch closer.

12.          San Diego Chargers (16) – They played badly in the first half and turned the ball over badly for points.  They then turned it around in the 2nd half, dominated the line of scrimmage on both sides and ran away with the game.  An excellent come from behind win.

13.          Indianapolis Colts (6) – The Colts are trying to find their way on the road early. Offense quiet in early days of this game.  Indianapolis is really struggling to get the O working and it may be a challenge all game.  The Colts have no answer on O or D and this is surprising as it is ugly.   In the end it was ugly. Prevent Defense alone gave the Colts a semblance of life.  They were dominated in all phases and need to see if this was a one off or does Indianapolis have a problem?

14.          Houston Texans (9) – The Texans need to develop more consistency in the secondary and get the ball moving or this will be a very long day.  I know they have a solid front 9 and 2 weak corners but who knew those two would be so exposed?  This team is getting creamed and it looks bad.  The D couldn’t cover and the O couldn’t get it done.  They need to regroup fast.

15.          Minnesota Vikings (10) – That has to be the most humiliating performance in the history of the Viking franchise.  You mail it in and don’t even try and look what happens? The Dregs of the NFL look like world-beaters.  There is no excuse for this lack of effort and every single Viking should be embarrassed to their core, as this loss will hang on them all season.  Get it together, that was despicable.

16.          Pittsburgh Steelers (19) – The Steelers D came out flat and the lack of communication in the secondary led directly to the first 3 NE TDs’.  With what came from the post game pressers the communication issues are kind of ironic.  The Steelers never really had a chance with both a fired up Pats team, a new D trying to find a way and a Pats organization that thinks its Barry Bonds and just cheats because it can.  The Steelers struggles will ease with LeVeon Bell returning but to be fair D’angelo Williams was superb.  A good effort that came close but circumstances and cheating held them back.

17.          Cincinnati Bengals (23) – The Bengals came out with a plan, just push hard on O and D (cheap shots and cheaper shots accepted) and take the game to the opposition.  They blew out Oakland but played pretty dirty.  Adam Pacman Scumbag Jones may be the lowest form of human debris in a NFL Uni today which is pretty strong a statement.  A big win but I won’t start planning a parade route.  Let’s see them win an AFC North game.

18.          Atlanta Falcons (22) – Atlanta showed they have dash and elan on offense.  They also showed their D, despite moments of effectiveness, is just alot like what they were before.  The MNF crew heaped praise on a D that most of the time looked pedestrian…especially in the 2nd half.  The Falcons got a win because someone missed a FG.  Not a dominating win and My view of them hasn’t really changed.

19.          Baltimore Ravens (13) – The Ravens played hard for most of the game but in the end it was a Golden turnover that lost them the game.  They were able to harry and bother Manning but they just couldn’t get it done on the offensive side and that is not good for a team with playoff dreams.

20.          New York Giants (18) – The G men used to stand for Defense.  That isn’t so much so far this year.  Eli struggled to get the ball moving in the first half but got the ball moving better in the 2nd  The Giants had worked hard in the 2nd half to get themselves in the lead, with the ball, driving for the endzone with less than 2 minutes left.  The questionable call of Giants history had Eli throw it away, stop the clock and kick a FG giving them a 6-point lead.  The other uber questionable call was Coghlin telling Jennings to not score a TD.  Sheesh.  Then the G-men D couldn’t stop Dallas as they stole the game.  Good effort, poor ending.

21.          Philadelphia Eagles (17) – Well the first half was about an ugly a first half a Chip Kelly team in the NFL has ever put on National tv.  The second half was much better with Bradford ripping it and the D even stepping up.  If not for a great pick in the end zone the game wouldn’t have turned on a missed FG in the fourth quarter.  The Eagles have serious issues in the secondary and if they can’t figure out how to use the run this could be uglier later.

22.          Detroit Lions (20) – The Lions had their way early proving once again that turnovers are gold.  The whole ‘they can’t play on the West Coast’ seemed mute.  Then the second half started and turnovers were indeed gold as Detroit started turning it over.  Key moment, the unblocked Marv Ingram literally destroying Stafford.  The team just folded up like a card table after your visitors left.  Ugly loss.

23.          Miami Dolphins (25) – The Dolphin D is being pushed around by Washington which no one thought would happen.  The Dolphins have yet to be able to impose their will on O or D in the first half.  The Dolphins held on and pulled out a win.  The D was pretty good but the O struggled and they really won because of one special teams effort.  I still have questions about this team.  Also The THUG Suh kicked the helmet off the face of Alfred Morris. He is like a rabid dog and should be banned from the NFL.

24.          Tennessee Titans (30) – If there was a statement game today it was made by Tennessee.  The headline is – ‘you drafted who first? Look at who we got!’ Marcus Mariota was beyond amazing.  He threw 4 TDS in the FIRST HALF!  The Titans ran the table with passing and running and great D.  A spectacular win.  They aren’t this good but that was a great win.

25.          New York Jets (31) – The Jets D is holding up but the O is having issues early.  Fitzpatrick has turned the corner and got the Jets out in the lead at the half.  Playing spirited ball.  The Jets rolled in the 2nd half and put the game away.  Well played on O and good D.  A nice win.  Can they do it again?

26.          Oakland Raiders (21) – This didn’t work today.  Carr got dinged up, the D got pushed around and the usually game tough Raiders were badly treated by a dirty Bengal team.  My advice, tear that one up and start fresh.  Nothing to see there.  Try harder.  Don’t do what you did today.  I won’t write them off until they lose that badly again, at home.

27.          Cleveland Browns (24) – Browns are playing a solid early game and show signs of being ready to battle.  The injury to McCown could have been bad but John Manziel rips out a nice TD pass and the Browns are in this game at the half.  The 2nd half was ugly.  The Browns got destroyed and now they need to see if they can put together a good 60 minute effort.

28.          Jacksonville Jaguars (27) – The Jags have had early opportunities but they are shooting themselves in the foot and that could bite them later.  Bortles looks terrible and that must change.  The D has issues.  The team is going through the motions and it’s only the first half of the first game of the year.  The Jags played better in the 2nd half but in the end lost.  They had chances but didn’t make the most of them.  Bortles must improve and fast.

29.          San Francisco 49ers (32) – I give SF credit they played their game plan and won the game going away.  It helped that their opponent didn’t want to block or tackle but that is not SF’s fault.  The Niner run game did well and the D played well.  Will they do it again?  I don’t think so.  I still think they are terrible.  You do have to try to beat them though.

30.          Washington Redskins (29) – The Redskins look pretty good early and will bear watching.  The Redskins are playing really hard which is kind of surprising.  They look like a team on a mission in the first half.  The Mission ended in the 2nd half.  They kept it close but the O couldn’t do enough.  The D was much better.  They need more consistency from Cousins.

31.          Chicago BEARS  (28) – Pretty good start for the severe underdog Bears as their O is moving the ball and the D is playing decently early. The BEARS are giving it all on D and it’s helping this team to stay in it.  A tie in the first half is a moral victory for Chicago.  Leading by 3 is a miracle.  The Bears had 30 minutes of game in them.  In the end Cutler was like Cutler and this can be chalked up as another ugly performance, at home, against a hated rival.  Only 15 more games of that redundant bum at QB for Chicago.

32.          Tampa Bay Buccaneers (26) – Ouch.  Jameis Winston got a lesson quick in the NFL.  He looked like the wide-eyed rookie and got treated as one.  Porous D, questionable coaching, bad O and golden turnovers.  How to lose 101 was the Tampa game plan.  Start again Tampa or maybe get the #1 pick again.

As always I love all thoughts, comments, arguments or agreements.  I appreciate someone reading my views.  I would also offer my analysis work to ESPN as some of theirs need help or I will take cash, preferably tens and twenties!

19. Pittsburgh Steelers (8-8, all offense and D that may take a while is a bad combo).

20. Detroit Lions (8-8, nothing to see here, lucky Chicago is bad or they might be last).

21.  Oakland Raiders (7-9, building a serious contender in Oakland).

22. Atlanta Falcons (7-9, a team with still a bad D).

23. Cincinnati Bengals (7-9, good news will be new QB and HC in 2016).

24. Cleveland Browns (6-10, building for respectability in the near future).

25. Miami Dolphins (6-10, watching Suh get suspended becomes a job in South Beach).

26. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (6-10, Winston will bring them back, give him time).

27. Jacksonville Jaguars (3-13, Better team than their record but the schedule is a tough one).

28. Chicago BEARS (4-12, good news is Cutler is gone in 2016 and the rebuild can begin).

29. Washington Redskins (5-11, a horror show on and off the field that is already circling the bowl).

30.  Tennessee Titans (2-14, a tough first year for Mariota but remember Troy’s first year).

31. New York Jets (3-13, a team that is a mess and a stinky mess).

32. San Francisco 49ers (1-15, the roster cuts make it seem like they want to go 0-16 and they might vie for 0-17 if they could work in a loss on the bye week).

There you have it!  The Power Poll is back and will be out every week of the regular season and playoffs.

As always I love all thoughts, comments, arguments or agreements.  I appreciate someone reading my views.  I would also offer my analysis work to ESPN as some of theirs need help or I will take cash, preferably tens and twenties!

MR N’s #NFL NFC West Preview 2015‏ #nflthoughts #nflpreseason #nflrankings

nfc west

Seattle Seahawks  – We all saw the play that ended the Super Bowl and it may be the worst call ever in that stage of the big game.  That is in the past.  The Super Bowl loser hangover probably can be ignored when considering this team.  The Hawks didn’t sit still.  They re-signed Russell Wilson, one of the best QBs in the NFL, they traded for TE/WR Jimmy Graham and that will open holes for Beastmode.  The addition of little Tyler Lockett will energize kick returns and add speed to the outside.  The O line is solid (they traded their Center since his replacement last year was super when Unger was hurt) and does the job.  The D…is the best D in the NFL.  A solid front 4, a great corps of LB and the best secondary probably ever in the history of the NFL.  Right now Cam Chancellor is holding out because he’s upset he willingly signed a contract.  He will be back for the opening game.  The schedule is fine for this team.  Here is the deal…during the year there will be injuries and they will drop a game then.  They will lose a game at home they shouldn’t and they will drop another along the way.  I see them 13-3, they are number one seed, and they will represent the NFC in Super Bowl 50.

Arizona Cardinals – The Cardinals were 11-5 and went as far as they could with baling wire and clothespins holding their offense together last year.  This year they start with a healthy Carson Palmer and an improved line with additions from the draft and free agency.  The WR are still a solid group and the improved line could impact the running game in a good way.  The D is amazing.  They need to develop a bit more consistent pass rush but they are solid against the run and have a dynamite secondary that is arguably the best in the league.  The special teams are decent too but could use a bit more excitement on kick returns.  The schedule is solid and this team is built for success.  If the O and D are on then 13-3 is not out of the question.  If they are hit by injuries on O again then 10-6 could be their downfall.  I think 12-4 is the record, that may not win the division but should get them a wild card again.

St. Louis Rams – The Rams come off a year of great D and woeful O.  They decided that showing Sammy the door would not be a Foles move…:) The addition of Nick Foles at QB, Todd Gurley at RB and additions to the O line could have this team score just enough to allow for their incredible D to win a lot of games.  There may not be a better front 7 in the NFL then this gang and their safeties aren’t bad either.  The Corners could use improvement but with such a front 9 the back 2 aren’t critical.  Brilliant special teams help too.  The schedule isn’t bad.  If the Rams O clicks under Foles then this team could surprise everyone and win 12.  If the O struggles then another 8-8 (and the end of Fisher in STL) could happen.  I think they will be exceptional and be 11-5 and in the battle for NFC wild card.

San Francisco 49ers – Some teams go through changes and some teams go through CHANGES. The Niners are not recognizable now.  They have a new coach, a new D co-ordinator (who is a great offensive mind if that makes sense) and a new O co-ordinator.  They have lost their vet RB, key aspects to an Oline that has been fading already and more people out of what was once a good D that they may not be able to stop a leaf blowing across a field.  They have a QB who was so desperate to fix his game he went and ‘retooled’ himself.  The WR are two aged former Ravens and their TE was the invisible man last year.  They won’t be able to stop the run or the pass for that matter.  It is a tough schedule and if everything goes well they could be 3-13.  I think they get lucky once and finish 1-15 but they could also be equally capable of matching Detroit as the 2nd 0-16 ever.  A horrible team.
