MR N’s Exclusive #NFLDraft Second and Third Round Thoughts #NFL

nfl draft 2014

First thoughts – how stupid is Cleveland to cut Barnidge because they drafted a round 1 TE? Has Cleveland missed the whole 2 tight end set that has been in vogue and successful for the last half decade?  The Jets showing that type of team is common in the bottom feeder world – they got Jamal Adams a super star Safety so they are getting rid of Calvin Pryor who was over matched in the QB Safety role but might have shone as a #2 under Adams but nope the Jets think you only need 1 safety.  Reasons why teams like Cleveland the Jets just lose and lose and draft high and draft high.

Round 2

Green Bay takes Kevin King CB and he will help a Pack secondary that has had issues *happily to a BEARS Fan* for the last few years.  This will make them better.

Seattle trades to Jacksonville and Jags take Cam Robinson T.  O line from college are very hard to see how they clearly transition to the pro game so it may take Robinson a while to get NFL ready but he will be a good one.

Seattle – Malik McDowell DT – another Seahawk D project not unlike the one they drafted a couple of years back. Frank Clark thanks Charles Davis Typical Hawk pick.

Chicago traded another pick because they are allergic to taking top talent and when they use a top pick they pick stupidly.  Arizona has the pick and takes Budda Baker S when they mighta taken a QB but they got another good addition to what already is a great secondary.

Buffalo trades in to take Zay Jones WR – a bit of a reach for Buffalo but they must like how he fits into their receiving corps.

The LA Bolts take Forrest Lamp G The best interior lineman is now a Bolt protector.  He will help keep Rivers upright while the QB cashes AARP checks.  Good pick.

New York Jets take Marcus May S because as long as the sun rises in the East the Jets need help in their secondary.  Question is which Safety will they trade or cut now because the Jets don’t like depth.

Carolina picks Curtis Samuel RB/WR and he will add depth to the receiver corps which lacks it.

Minnesota Vikings trade up and take Dalvin Cook RB – thank the good Lord they didn’t take the woman beating scum and they took a guy with super talent who hangs with bad dudes but maybe the cold air will keep him on the straight and narrow.  Superb pick if they can babysit him in off hours.

New Orleans Saints take Marcus Williams S to work to give the woeful Saint D someone who can do something to stop the opposition from scoring.

Philadelphia Eagles pick Sidney Jones CB and he woulda been a top 20 but for a torn acl thingy and he will be back and he will be potentially a shutdown corner once healthy.

Rams are taking Gerald Everett TE and they lost a few receivers and never really have had any since Warner was their QB so this guy can catch some.

CHICAGO BEARS are actually picking someone – they take Adam Shaheen TE – nice St Jude moment there and a brave little BEARS Fan read the pick.  Chicago has been lacking a great TE since they traded Olsen and if Shaheen can transition from small school to NFL then this big beast could be a good pick.

…now only comments on picks that illicit commentary from me….

Cincinnati Bengals took Joe Mixon RB and girl abuser, numerous times, violently argumentative with parking attendants.  The entire State of Ohio and Michigan and Iowa and perhaps Indiana needs to start protesting at their mini camps and pre-season and regular season.  Playing in the NFL is a privilege and not a right and this thug has given up the rights to the privilege and doesn’t deserve the chance.  A pick that will resonate on the Bengal organization.  Congrats you took a thug who can play.  Guess if Aaron Hernandez was alive they might have traded for him.

The Skins took a good Bama LB and that will help that team, various lesser light d players are going off the board.

Cleveland finally drafts a QB and they take DeShone Kizer and he will need to grow and perhaps he can learn behind Kessler for a while and then they will potentially have a franchise QB in Cleveland for the first time in a VERY long time.

Lions grab Teez Tabor and he will add some talent to their D.  The Lions get better now.

OakVegas took Obi the unpronounceable CB and he is tall and will give them a jolt and help that secondary that had issues get better

The Texans added LB Cunningham who slid because he doesn’t sack the QB but a solid LB who can just tackle and cover will fit in very well in Houston.  He’s Vandy too.

Pittsburgh Steelers drafted a WR named Ju Ju and he will give them a solid 2 to play opposite AB and this will make the Steeler O even more dangerous.  Great pick

Nice inciting of potential riots in Philly by Cowboy Drew Pearson

2nd round ends with Panthers taking a Tackle and they can use depth on that Panther line

Third round

Highlights only…

The Saints take Alvin Kamara a first-round RB and that is a talent steel.  The Saints are filling the team with RBs and me thinks if Kamara is who Mike Mayock says he is * I do believe what Mike says* then AP may not want to take a long-term lease in New Orleans because there may not be much work for an over the hill fading child beater with someone like Kamara and Ingram there.

Rams take WR Cooper Kupp and I feel like I know him having had him on NFLN every fricking week.  He is a decent WR and will be a decent WR in LA with Goff if Goff can ever become an NFL QB.

Vikings took C/G Pat Elflein and he may not be all that but last year they were pulling people off the street to play O line so any help is good help.  A good pick.

Cincy at 73 grabs DE Jordan Willis and he coulda been a first-round pick and he may not fully fit in as he is not a scumbag but he can play.

The Saints took Anzalone the LB and he woulda been higher picked if he didn’t have health issues.  Good potential if healthy.

Denver takes a fast if fragile WR Carlos Henderson, he can be quick but can he be consistent.

New England Patriots finally make a pick at #83.  One wondered if they would EVER pick but they do and they pick Derek Rivers DE a small school guy who can sack the QB and The Patriot Way will make him the most dangerous and this will make the Pats better of course.

Pats 2nd pick in 3 is Antonio Garcia T This kid could one day be a LT, he is a beast and will be a super addition to a line that needs help.  This guy could be Solder’s replacement according to Mike Mayock the Draft God.

Chiefs take Kareem Hunt RB and if he brings all he did in college then there is another changing of the guard at RB in KC coming quick.

The Giants took QB Davis Webb and this guy is the perfect Eli backup as Eli is long in the tooth and Webb needs an Aaron Rodgers grooming period then he will take over.  Superb pick for the G men.

Texans took good guy D’Onte Foreman who will be a big body RB who gets the short yardage and goal line job and keeps Lamar Miller healthy.  Great spot for a good guy.

A lot of secondary additions late in the 3rd round a couple of team added big O line and D line.

Niners added a kid QB late C.J. Beathard who I guess they are hoping for a Dak Prescott like turn from.

An interesting if poorly run 2nd night of draft and it took a lot out of me for this so you are all pretty much on your own for the 4th to 7th rounds.  Enjoy the rest of the draft and remember people like Brady and Sherman came in the late rounds so don’t sleep on the talent that comes late!

MR N’s Exclusive #NFLDraft Round One Analysis #NFL #DraftDay

nfl draft 2014

1st  pick Cleveland = Myles Garrett DE – the unanimous first pick overall.  He immediately makes their D better and it was a very un-Cleveland thing for them to do this but they made the right pick and landed a franchise D player.

2nd pick San Francisco =  trade to Chicago

2nd pick Chicago BEARS = Mitchell Trubisky – and the BEARS just pissed away the opportunity to pick a franchise player.  To trade 3 picks to pick this guy? He is 4 years away from being a starter.  They could have had Jamal Adams, Solomon Thomas, Lattimore, Allen…omg as a BEARS *former nearly* fan this is just the worst pick they could make.  I am so offended.  My honest first reaction was ‘oh my f****** G**’. I am destitute and feel like my Bears just waved goodbye to any hope of winning more than 5 this year.

3rd pick San Francisco 49ers = Solomon Thomas DE – a superb pick, gives SF a powerful inside rush that they have been missing since retirement/drug/arrest etc. of the last few years.  He will make the front 7 of the Niners legit once again and that will help them.

4th pick Jacksonville Jaguars = Leonard Fournette RB – evidently the Jags think they need a running back to help their sad sack QB. I thought they had RBs who could tote the rock. This guy could Zeke Elliott and that can take the heat off the QB and passing game.  We will see if this can elevate a team that should already have elevated themselves.

5th pick Tennessee= Corey Davis WR – That is a REACH.  They so needed to take one of the top great D guys and they went and got a solid WR.  He will make a pedestrian receiver corps in Tennessee better but they could have taken franchise D at 5 and a WR at 18.  It is a hmm pick.

6th pick NY Jets = Jamal Adams – He shoulda been a Bear.  A superb pick for the Jets.  They get a fantastic safety who will change the philosophy of the bad Jet secondary and make them good.  A fantastic pick and now they look almost decent at secondary.  Superb pick.

7th pick LA Chargers = Mike Williams WR – they need secondary help.  Oh well.  They drafted a good WR.  This is the second good WR taken in the first 7 picks.  That, by my count, means 3 of the first 7 are NOT franchise players.  Teams 8 to 10 must be grinning now.  He will provide Grandpa Rivers a good target and that could mean LAC (not Clippers) could score 6 more every other game.  I don’t see this pick making them better than OakVegas.

8th pick Carolina = Christian McCaffery RB – a super safe pick that makes Cam Newton healthier and is a great addition.  This little spark plug will do a lot aka young Reggie Bush and he will score running/catching/returning kicks.  This makes a Panther team in need of talent better.

9th pick Cincinnati = John Ross WR – well another good WR gets drafted and at least 3 franchise D players are available and Cleveland will probably piss away their pick for a QB so the teams in the middle of the first round must be excited.  Ross will find it hard to find a ball since Dalton only throws to AJ Green.  A pick that makes them better on paper, if they throw the ball to him.

10th pick Buffalo = trades to KC = Patrick Mahomes II QB  – well they do need a future for Alex Smith but this is a reach and Buffalo has dumped their shot at getting a franchise secondary player.  This is a huge reach and the Chiefs may yet find a franchise QB here with this but I think they better buy Tums.  KC didn’t need a lot of help to be good but best available might have been a better idea.  Reach pick.

11th pick New Orleans = Marshon Lattimore CB was selected by the ‘New Orleans’ according to Goodell the twit.  That the best corner in the draft fell to 11 makes the Saints secondary a real secondary and must make Ryan, Winston and Newton wonder about where their long balls may land.  A superb shut down corner pick.

12th pick Cleveland  – trades to Houston = DeShawn Watson QB – Houston wanted Tony Romo the half a clavicle QB but that didn’t happen so they now can have Savage battle Watson and the best man wins.  With that D and a fair to middlin’ running game Watson might be able to survive as a day one starter.  A need pick but may work for this team.

13th pick Arizona Cardinals = Haason Reddick LB – One of the best LB available and he makes the Cards already stout linebacking corps better.  He will do good things: rushing, tackling and covering.  A solid pick of a great young kid.  He will excel in Arizona.

14th pick Philadelphia Eagles = Derek Barnett DE – he is one of the top pass rushers and he will help bring heat from the Eagles D to Eli and Kirk and Dak.  Barnett will pound it and he is a legit pass rusher and this will make an Eagle D better.  A good pick.

15th pick Indianapolis Colts = Malik Hooker S –  A super pick for the Colts.  They haven’t had a great safety since Superman in 2008.  Hooker is a person like Ed Reed with great hands and super tackles.  The Colts have now created a good secondary.  Superb pick.

16th pick Baltimore Ravens = Marlon Humphry CB – the Ravens grabbed another good CB.  The Ravens needed a good CB and now their secondary is getting better.  A pretty good pick.

17th Washington Redskins = Jonathan Allen DE – this great player might have been a top 5 but he has shoulder injury issues.  He would have been a super D player.  If he is still healthy then the Skins have picked a super D player.  Potentially amazing pick.

18th Tennessee Titans *2nd first round pick* – Adoree’ Jackson CB – a smaller *thanks Mike Mayock* corner who can still do the job. He can get to the ball and do the job.  He will start day one in Tennessee and this makes the Titans better.  In all, two good picks that make the Titans better than they were before tonight started.

19th Tampa Bay Bucs = O.J. Howard TE – what a super pick by Tampa. This gives a weapon loaded passing game on Tampa another fantastic weapon.  They have an/a Olsen/Gronk kind of TE now and he will probably get 10 TDs in 2017.  Fantastic pick.

20th Denver Broncos = Garett Bolles T – The Broncs have helped their young QBs with an addition to the O line.  The Broncs have D and kinda running and youth at QB.  The Tackle and his son have been drafted.  A good pick for Denver.

21st Detroit Lions = Jarrad Davis LB – the Lions have picked a good LB.  He could give the Lions a good tackler and a good pusher here and there.  A pretty decent pick.

22nd Miami Dolphins = Charles Harris DE – Another good pass rusher here.  Harris will learn with the other guys on the Fins and he will have a shot to knock Brady about.  A solid pick that will make the front seven more fierce.

23rd pick New York Giants = Evan Engram TE – a kind of a funny pick that seems like they are picking a player just to poke another team behind them in the nose.  They needed a good OL and there were two they could pick but they got another good TE.  He will help them with good offense but this was a bit of an odd pick.

24th pick OakVegas Raiders = They added RB Marshawn Lynch so this is not so critical but they take Gareon Conley CB – they took a top 15 player who has clearly shown pretty bad judgement but maybe nothing else.  He could be a super addition to their secondary and if the off the field headaches pass, he could add something to Oakland.  A pretty good Oakland like pick.

25th pick Cleveland Browns = They traded way back to this spot and who in the ever loving whatsis will they pick… Jabrill Peppers DB/S/RB/little guy hard to figure out – he will bring a lot of energy but where to put him and what can he accomplish?  Will he help the Browns woe begotten secondary? Will Cleveland know how to use him?  He has talent but I have sincere doubts Cleveland can figure out how to get the max out of him.

26th pick Seattle Seahawks =  trade to Atlanta *Seattle you needed O line you dumb asses* The Falcons take Takkarist McKinley DE/LB and he will help provide an other side of the line force to Beasley.  A good pick that makes the Falcons tougher with a solid pass rush combo.  Good pick.  Superb touch bringing his late GrandMom’s pic to the stage. Methinks there was an F word on the stage but he has heart and fire and sometimes you have to be real.

27th pick Buffalo Bills = Tre’Davious White CB – Buffalo adds a corner who can play.  They lost a lot of secondary and he will play it, if not amazingly.  He can do the job but I do not know if that is the line you want for your top pick.

28th pick Dallas Cowboys = Taco Charlton DE – The Boys got a much-needed edge rusher.  He is a decent player who can push it in and get towards the QB.  He also seems clean off the field and that makes him head and shoulder ahead of his team mates in Dallas.  Good pick.

29th pick Cleveland (who traded with the Packs to get this pick) – they take David Njoku TE – he is odds on #2 best TE and he will provide a force at TE that will have to combine with Barnyard.  Cleveland needed a lot of help and they kind of had a TE and now they have 2 and they traded to get him.  Ok.

30th pick Pittsburgh Steelers = TJ Watt – he is the little bro of JJ but he states he will make his own name and he will.  He is deeply talented and can make a difference against the rush and pass.  A tremendously good pick for the Steelers to add.

31st San Francisco 49ers (traded from Seattle) – Reuben Foster LB – a top 10 pick who slid and slid due to health issues.  He, if healthy, can be a force inside.  He can tackle and cover.  The question is can he be healthy long term.  Could be a great pick *if healthy*

32nd pick New Orleans Saints = Ryan Ramczyk T – A solid addition to the Saint line.  This will help run and pass and he will be a solid body to work with.  Good solid pick.

Round 2 and 3 thoughts will be tomorrow. Stay tuned.

“You are Who You are” Mr. N’s #NFL Week 13 Power Poll #NFLRankings

NFL Power Rankings

1. Dallas Cowboys (1) – The Cowboys took a page from the ‘hey it sucks to play on TNF’ book. They looked often flat and struggled on O and D against a team they should have just rolled over. They got enough out of Elliott to seal the deal. They then got enough out of the refs to steal the deal. By any virtue of imagination, the Cowboys should have been tied and gone to OT where anything could have happened but they were awarded a win. It was ugly and you can thank the NFL for the horror show that is Thursday Night Football.

2. Oakland Raiders (2) – The Raiders seem to have not found their mojo yet. The D is having great trouble even appearing to be tackling dummies to the Bills rush and the more they fall behind the more one has to wonder if the D can muster anything and if the O can muster a comeback. What a difference a half makes. The D suddenly found their groove and Khalil Mack showed clearly why Von Miller couldn’t’ even tie his cleats. Mack dominated while the O opened up and caught and passed the Bills. The Raiders then blew out Buffalo and won this game in a laugher. The Silver and Black, hard on the nerves but fun to watch!

3. New England Patriots (3) – Pats have taken a West Coast vacation. Lots of sun and sand and touring movie star houses, oh and they are kicking the ever-loving crap out of the terrible LA Rams. This game was a breeze for the vacationing Pats. They enjoyed the sun, saw the Kardashians and had cocktails and oh yeah, they stomped the Rams. An easy win.

4. Kansas City Chiefs (4) – The Chiefs are supposed to have D and efficient O. There is no D here but plenty o’ O and they were tied in a shootout but snuck out to a lead. Last team to play bad D here will lose. The Chiefs used O I didn’t think they had and they pulled out to a nice lead. They went to prevent and that got them down by 1. Then Eric Berry made a spectacular pick on a two point try and won the game with the return. Amazing win, this team is going to be very dangerous if they can play offense like this in the playoffs.

5. Detroit Lions (6) – The Lions O is doing great and their D is doing what it often does and they are in a shootout at the half. Last team who scores wins. Detroit changed the script and played good D in the second half and got turnovers and sealed the game. Solid game by Detroit and they are nicely out in front in the NFC North and there isn’t thing one Geek Bay can do about it.

6. Seattle Seahawks (9) – Seattle got the gift of an advent pick on the first play and never ever looked back. Losing Thomas for the year may take the OOM out the Legion of Boom but that didn’t stop them on Sunday night. It was never in doubt. Seattle blew the doors off and trounced the Panthers. They are in the driver seat in their amazingly crappy division.

7. Pittsburgh Steelers (10) – Pittsburgh was in control from start to finish. Big Ben got it going with his weapons and scored only 3 TDs but it seemed like they could have scored more. The D played a strong game and Pittsburgh was never challenged. They won this handily and are still neck and neck with the Ravens for the Division.

8. Baltimore Ravens (16) – Ravens on a roll-on D and surprisingly on O. They can do no wrong and this game, now up by something like 3 TDs may be over at the half. This game was over. The Ravens blew out Miami and are making a point they may yet be heard from in the AFC North. A nice win.

9. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (11) – The Bucs went on the road and suffered a ton of injuries to the receiving corps. By the end of the first quarter they were testing out popcorn salesmen to see if they could run routes. They battled on O and D and got into a see saw match. They got a couple of great golden turnovers and Winston got them the winning score. The D held on for the great road victory. They are a game or so out of the division lead and now in the Wild Card and control their destiny. Way to go Bucs.

10. New York Giants (5) – The ‘vaunted’ Giants D got whupped today. No pass rush seen at all, the secondary looked like a bunch of overpaid hacks. The O was flat and could do little. They got a cheap TD late against prevent to make this game seem closer than it was. A rotten game and they saw their win streak go splat. It is a game like that which makes one wonder if they are just pretenders who will be one and done come playoff time.

11. Atlanta Falcons (7) – Defense seems to be something left of Christmas lists here today. Atlanta has marched the field a few times but have had trouble getting TDs. It may be last team who scores wins here. That was quite the amazing second half for Atlanta. They were down 2 scores but they battled back and brought themselves into a one point lead very late – for about a second or two. Then the Falcons went for two, Matty Melt tossed a pick and it went for 2 and they lost. Yep. No refs messed this one, the Falcons did it all on their own. What a way to lose and if any other team in their division has ability then the door just popped open.

12. Denver Broncos (17) – The Broncos went on the road and brought their D. Unfortunately, they had to bring their O too and it was as useless as it always is. Only a terrible Denver Bronco team who is being called great by reputation, can play a close game against a bad Jag team. Denver won this and currently have crawled into a Wild Card spot but don’t anyone be fooled. This Bronco team sucks.

13. Washington Redskins (12) – The Skins had 10 days to prepare and were taking on an offensively challenged team prone to turnovers. So? They struggled and couldn’t make the necessary throws, protect the QB or run well. The D was burned and burned and the Skins were defeated. They now sit out of the playoffs and it is their own damn fault for blowing a winnable game.

14. Arizona Cardinals (20) – The Cards have been a disappointment for most of the year and this game didn’t look good for them. They are undermanned on O and the D has had issues and they faced an offensive powerhouse. What happened? A fantastic performance by Palmer with no picks this week as they scored again and again. The D played well and this was the best game Zona has had in weeks. They still are basically a walking corpse but it was a good win.

15. Miami Dolphins (8) – Me thinks the Dolphins were reading the press clippings about their win streak as they are getting walloped here. What a terrible effort. They need to give their collective heads a shake or they are toaster cased here. The Dolphins were blown out and looked rotten. What a terrible effort and this loss hurts them in the playoff chase.

16. New Orleans Saints (15) – The Saints are in the shootout everyone thought they would be in and this will be a last team who scores wins. Well New Orleans D won the competition today – which D would suck more. They let in a lot of Lion points and then Brees had an uncharacteristically bad day and some golden turnovers too. The Saints lost and this hurts them as they had a chance to gain ground in the NFC South but blew it. A bad loss.

17. Buffalo Bills (14) – The Bills brought out a great game plan and ran and ran. Nothing could stop the run so they just ran and ran and ran. The D was pretty good early and they had a nice lead in a tough road environment. Then the roof fell in. The Bills O was shut down and the D was ripped and before they knew it they were down 14 and it was all over. A tough loss for the Bills who now have a difficult road to the wild card if not impossible.

18. Cincinnati Bengals (27) – This is about the best effort this poor Bengal team has shown in more than 6 weeks. They are kicking it with solid O and good D and are well in control. Cincinnati was in cruise control and never looked back. They ran up a nice lead and played good D. If they weren’t buried in the AFC they might take more from this but alas a meaningless win on the way to missing the playoffs.

19. Houston Texans (18) – No O, it doesn’t usually work in Texas with good field conditions and Oswieler is terrible in the snow. It is an open question whether than can score even a point here The Texans struggled and muddled and did get a point or two and a cheap TD late but never had a shot and lost. They continue to crawl on their stomach through mud and debris into the playoffs..

20. Indianapolis Colts (23) – Well that was quite a day for the Colts. How nice of them to get a Christmas present early. The Jets simply decided to gift them a game. Luck threw well with no pressure or threat from a backfield. Indy ran easily against a non-existent Run D. The Colt D was able to run over the Jet O with little effort. It was like Indy played a CGI team. A simple blow out win which proves even a bad team can destroy someone who doesn’t try.

21. Tennessee Titans (21) – On the bye and while on the bye they are now tied for first. If they win out they will win their division. It is in their hands. Can they pull it off or is this idea just a bunch of Malarkey?

22. San Diego Chargers (19) – The Bolts at home got into a classic San Diego type of game. They played good D and missed some plays. They played some great O and missed some plays. They had a lead, they gave it up. They pulled ahead, they turned it over. They had a great play and a bad play. In the end, they fell behind and couldn’t come back. It wasn’t their best effort and this pretty much ends any hopes San Diego had before they move to LA too. A tough loss.

23. Minnesota Vikings (22) – The Vikes had pretty decent D for the game and it held down Dallas and kept them under 20 points. The O had spurts but found it tough sledding to get into the end zone. They managed to keep it close into the 4th and made one late drive for a TD to make it a 2-point game. The Vikings were set to get the 2 pointer but the refs ruled that they wanted Dallas to win so they didn’t call the penalty. Minnesota was awarded a loss by the refs. Too bad.

24. Green Bay Packers (25) – Inclimate weather is the only thing holding back Green Bay’s O in the first half. Seeing Rodgers bang his head off the turf marks the 10,000th time he has done this but the NFL has decided concussion protocol doesn’t apply to him. When he retires early ala Troy Aikman…oh and Green Bay has a slim lead. Green Bay was able to use their crappy D to hold down the crappy Texan O and Rodgers tossed another TD and the pack wins. What was sweet was how Detroit won so GB is STILL 2 out and the wild card is in the NFC East. Have a RELAXed time missing the playoffs.

25. New York Jets (24) – Who knew how much the Jets hated their head coach? That was the biggest ‘lets get the coach fired by a shitty effort on national tv’ that I have ever seen. They didn’t try in any facet of the game. This was abominable and if I was the owner I would consider firing 53 players. Just a disgrace and the Jets lost and looked bad doing it.

26. Carolina Panthers (13) – Caaaaaaaaam didn’t wear a tie and got benched for 1 series. Carolina forgot they had to play and got smashed for 60 minutes. This was about as ugly a loss as Carolina has suffered in years. A full on forty burger served on national tv. This embarrassing loss ends any shot Carolina had and they will be sitting at home this year wondering what the hell happened.

27. Chicago BEARS (30) – playing in a blizzard the BEARS D has had some great plays and some terrible plays. They let SF march the field a couple of times but bent and didn’t break. Late the BEARS scored a TD. Turnovers will be critical with 2 bad teams in the snow. The BEARS were able to pile it on like snow blown by wind and never looked back. Solid rush O aided by terrible weather and Chicago won a game! Means little but it’s a win. What sucks is Baker Mayfield is staying in college. Sigh.

28. Philadelphia Eagles (26) – The Eagle D is the issue here or the utter lack of any such a thing. Wentz is showing it might have been good that he wentz in the 2nd overall pick *ok I stole that from Stugotz*. They are down and could be out already. The Eagles were out. Wentz turned it over and the D was shredded and down went the bad Eagles. The D has played maybe 3 good games but when you look like crap like that…you are NOT good.

29. Los Angeles Rams (28) – One would have thought that with a near 50 burger served on this alleged D last week that they would come roaring out today. Nope. The Rams signed Fisher to an extension (he was 1 yard from a Super Bowl title in 1999 – LAST MILLENIUM) and they are playing terrible. This could be very ugly. This was ugly and nothing is uglier than this loss AND an extension to Fisher. What a mess LA is.

30. San Francisco 49ers (29) – San Fran has played about as good as they can in the snow in Chicago. O has got them a couple of FGs and the D has only let in one TD. It will be a lot of effort for San Fran to maintain themselves in these conditions. Well SF just never got acclimatized and were off their feed. It got so bad they put Gabbert in! They were destroyed by the BEARS and if Cleveland wins one…they can yet be 32.

31. Jacksonville Jaguars (31) – Well Jacksonville gave all they had here. Their D battled and disrupted the Bronco’s laughable O. The Jags O struggled but got a little here and there and kept it close for most of the game. A decent effort by the team that needs still a ton of help and another loss for Jacksonville.

32. Cleveland Browns (32) – On the bye. The Browns have 4 left and now we have to seriously wonder if they can win even 1 game this year. If they sign Jay Cutler in 2017, as a BEARS fan I would thank them, but that might mean another 0-16 then.

There you have it, as always I would love it if someone just reads all the way through my ramblings and also will accept money, preferably tens and twenties! Any thoughts, comments, arguments or agreements are always welcome!

“Who’s the Best Team?” Mr N’s #NFL Week 11 Power Poll #NFLRankings #PowerPoll

NFL Power Rankings

1. Dallas Cowboys (1) – The Cowboys are uncharacteristically struggling against the sad sack Raven team. Troubles with O and D and they are in a dogfight. We will see what kind of guts Dallas has here. The Cowboys showed off their guts and when it got close they pulled away and put it away. Dak and Zeke and Dez are superb triplets. Another win by the best team in the NFL.

2. Seattle Seahawks (3) – The Seahawks seemed to hear all about how ‘good’ the Eagle D was as they made it a point to humiliate them. Trick plays, great long runs, superb passes. They kicked the Eagles ass. Superb D massacred Wentz. A quality win over a very over rated opponent.

3. Oakland Raiders (4) – Oye Oakland! They found themselves in a relative home game south of the border. No word if they had to climb over a wall either coming or going. The Raiders traded scores with a game Houston team and still found themselves trailing as the game got late. A superb rally from Carr put the Raiders even and then ahead for good. A great win for a Great Raider team!

4. New England Patriots (5) – The Pats seemed to not take this match seriously for about 25 minutes. They took a lead but wouldn’t put the rotten Niners away. Finally, in the second half they turned it on and they started to blow the game away. It was a blowout but a backdoor cover garbage TD made it look closer. Ho hum they whupped a crappy team.

5. Kansas City Chiefs (2) – Struggling to get control of a game against a lesser light. They have managed a TD and need to get tighter in pass coverage or this could be a long day. Boy was this a long day in KC. The D played pretty good in holding the Bucs to 4 FG and a TD but the O was asleep. They managed only 2 TDs and a FG and that isn’t good math. Kansas City couldn’t catch Tampa and lost this game. One can only think they mailed it in. What an abominable loss and now I have it open to whether this team is a mirage. This bears watching.

6. New York Giants (7) – It appears the NYG decided that they were already 8-3 with wins over Chicago today and Cleveland next week. Their effort has been deplorable. It is a basket of deplorables to quote someone J and they are trailing at the half and could blow a winnable game unless they wake up. The Giants O was never really able to get it going but boy did the D come out in the 2nd half. They bottled up the Bears and that let NY to just score enough to get an ugly win. They may be 8-3 in 2 weeks but this was an ugly win.

7. Washington Redskins (9) – The Washington Redskins came into this matchup as the nominal favorite. They seemed to play like a prize fighter trying to test out his opponent. They traded TDs, steady for a bit but then the Skins kept scoring and the Skin D started making stops. It didn’t take long before Washington was wiping the floor with a bad Pack team. Hope Green Bay was hungry as Washington fed them another forty burger. A solid win for a great team.

8. Denver Broncos (6) – on the bye, they need to get better performance at QB because the issues this team has against the rush means they can’t carry a bad QB to a Super Bowl again.

9. Detroit Lions (11) – Just when you think the Lions have turned the corner they turn back into the same old Sorry Assed Lions. They are at their self-defeating best and are doing all they can to let a bad Jag team to beat them. The Lions managed to fall behind and it really looked for a while they were going to lose but no…they didn’t. The Lions battled back and took the lead and then the D held on for a win. It was an ugly gutsy win for Detroit. They get rewarded with another game in less than 4 days.

10. Carolina Panthers (12) – The Panthers look like a team just 3 days off a bad loss. Offense troubled with blocking issues and sacks allowed. D is just the basic flat. A very flat first half performance. The Panthers had trouble with D and O but kept at it. They drew to a tie and made the plays necessary to grab a close win. They keep winning and that is good this time of the year.

11. Atlanta Falcons (10) – on the bye, the Falcons O was asleep against Philly and they need to wake up to keep the roll going.

12. Miami Dolphins (14) – A team that looked like they didn’t like the plane ride. They struggled for most of the game. Tannehill played like total crap. The team could do nothing on O and the D played ok but after allowing a TD and a FG it looked like they were dead. Then they put together 2 miracle drives in 5 minutes and they won. What an incredible comeback. I am glad I watched it as I still don’t believe it. The Dolphins are nominally alive in the Wild Card and that was quite the win!

13. Pittsburgh Steelers (16) – Shutting out a bad Cleveland team and pretty much having their way. Not really trying but you don’t really have to, to beat Cleveland. The Steelers really mailed it in here and played some decent D but beyond a big LeVeon day it was quiet on O. They won a game that should have been a laugher but a win is a win is a win. And they are the only AFC North team to do it today.

14. Arizona Cardinals (8) – Palmer committed the cardinal sin of a red zone golden turnover that became a pick 6. The Cards are playing ok D and ok O but need a better effort all over to win a game they should be well ahead in. The Cards turned it over too much and gave up a key special teams TD. That can’t help a team whose D also lets in scores. The Cardinals lost this game and this pretty much sticks a fork in this team. A bad loss.

15. Buffalo Bills (19) – The Bills got an early TD and now have maybe lost their best RB. Taylor getting whacked a lot but the D playing well. The Bills have a shot here. The Bills played super D and that was the key here. They got just enough O and managed to hold on for a super road win. Well done.

16. Houston Texans (13) – The Texans went to Mexico and remembered that once they belonged to them. They played pretty good O and D for 45 minutes and had a late lead. The D couldn’t seal the deal and after 2 TDs the O had nothing left. The Texans lost a tough one but still have the lead in their rotten division.

17. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (20) – The Bucs are keeping it close on the road here with some decent throws by Winston and a D that so far is keeping the Chiefs pretty well in check. Winston did just enough for the whole game to put his team in the position to win. The D played it’s butt off and made the stops they had to. Tampa stole a game in a tough environment. What an amazing win for Tampa.

18. Baltimore Ravens (15) – Good start by Baltimore with solid D and some basic O and Baltimore is in the game. The Ravens much vaunted D *vaunted on every TV station* got beat by the pass and run and were rolled up and spit out. The Ravens couldn’t score near enough and the D couldn’t stop anything. Another loss for an overrated and poor Raven team.

19. New Orleans Saints (18) – Saints look like a team just 3 days off a bad loss. Offense troubled with blocking issues and drops. D is just the basic flat. A very flat first half performance. The Saints actually played a decent game on D and managed to do everything they could to give them a shot but they lost it by THAT much. Close but no cigar. Another loss.

20. Minnesota Vikings (28) – The Vikes have had a pretty decent first half with good D and some workable O. They are keeping in a game and playing pretty well. They need a full 60-minute effort. The Vikes played a game they hadn’t in weeks. Great D with scoring, Special teams with scoring and just enough O to get just enough points to hold on for a key win. The Vikings may just not be dead yet. What a win.

21. Indianapolis Colts (25) – The Colts are the beneficiary of playing a team who thinks they are the big bad. Luck is having his way and just dominating a team that should be kicking his butt. A large lead and it will be a modern miracle for them to lose this game but Indy does suck so it’s not impossible. The Colts did what they could to get Tennessee back in this game but no matter how they tried they couldn’t lose it and Indy won a close one. A really BAD Colt team has a win.

22. San Diego Chargers (22) – on the bye, this team has heart but maybe no place to play in San Diego after this season. The LA Chargers will just be odd to see and say.

23. New York Jets (24) – on the bye, here’s hoping they can keep being Petty in NY. They are in the midst of a lost season, let the kid play.

24. Tennessee Titans (21) – Tennessee in the unenviable position of playing a team they think is their Demon and they are scared to play them well. They are now way down and unless they pull their heads out of their butts they will lose a game they should be kicking butt in. The Titans are in the spot Houston was in for the last couple of years. They just can’t mentally get past Indy. They got it close but couldn’t seal the deal and Tennessee must be counted as simply a pretender, not a contender.

25. Philadelphia Eagles (23) – Evidently the world thinks the Eagles D is better than it is. They couldn’t stop passes or runs. They fell behind deep and Wentz threw 2 golden picks. They were bad and the turnovers killed them. A bad loss for a team that is not who anyone thnks they are. Except for me as I don’t think they are very good.

26. Cincinnati Bengals (17) – Cincy struggling at home with Dalton making errors. The D has bent but not broken as much in the red zone. Cincy needs no more turnovers and then they can try to get a win here. Andy Dalton just couldn’t get any points. One would have thought this was a road game. They were tough on D but terrible on O and a bad Bengal team loses another. Ugly home loss.

27. Los Angeles Rams (26) – The Rams dusted off their 1st overall pick and he, well, he…didn’t suck. He showed some poise and some angst but he didn’t toss picks. He did very little but got his team out to a 2-possession lead. The D played amazing. This was a good Ram D *for 54 minutes*. They dominated the line of scrimmage and shut out the Dolphins for most of the day. Then they started making stupid penalties and played prevent and gave up 2 scores and they…lost. Goff didn’t do much but he didn’t lose it, the D lost it. What a horrid loss.

28. Green Bay Packers (27) – The past is prologue here. Green Bay had the appearance of a good team. SNF broadcasters sang praises of the old Packer D stars who were out there early. Alas the praises lasted longer than good play by the likes of Bloodline and his buddies. Aaron was just too R-E-L-A-X-E-D to be able to keep up with a good offense. The Pack couldn’t score enough and their D lets in WAY too much. Another ugly loss for a team that is just a shell and absolutely no good.

29. San Francisco 49ers (29) – The Niners were outclassed from the start. They managed to keep it a little close for a while but then the D played like it can. They let in TD after TD and got so far down it mattered little what they did. A terrible effort by a bad team and another loss.

30. Chicago BEARS (30) – Cutler, the veritable girl on the hill, is having one of his good games so far. The BEARS are scoring like crazy and if they could make more tackles they might be way ahead. A good 30 minutes but no guarantees they can do this for 60. Cutler was Cutler the bad and turned it over AGAIN. The BEARS O did nothing in the second half and down went the Bears. Word is Romo might be an option in 2017. I hope for Baker Mayfield and if Romo is there then Mayfield redshirts til 2018.

31. Jacksonville Jaguars (31) – Getting some traction with both Offense and Defense and are really in a game they had no hope of having a shot at. They could yet win this game. The Jags battled and pulled into a short lead. The D had been very effective and just needed to hold on. They couldn’t. It was I guess too much to ask as the Jags surrendered the lead. The O had a shot late to tie it but failed and a team who once had hope lost another.

32. Cleveland Browns (32) – Getting pounded by the Steeler D and not able to get any O going. The D has stopped some drives but not all and they are well on the way to another loss. The loss of Kessler doomed any hope they had. The D allowed too many and poor play killed any other shot they had. Another loss for the team on the road to 0-16.

There you have it, as always I would love it if someone just reads all the way through my ramblings and also will accept money, preferably tens and twenties! Any thoughts, comments, arguments or agreements are always welcome!

“The #Broncos Packed Their D” Mr. N’s #NFL Week 4 Power Poll #PowerRankings

NFL Power Rankings

1. Denver Broncos (1) – The Broncos packed their D here. The Denver team just dominated the poor Tampa O. The only thing that was the fly in the ointment was the injury to Siemian. That brought about the debut of Paxton Lynch and he played pretty good for a totally untested rookie. The Broncos just shut down everything Tampa had and put this game away. Only another stupid weather delay held up the inevitable of a solid D dominated win. Another typical Denver win. Best team til they lose.

2. Minnesota Vikings (3) – It is almost a simplistic game plan. Play stifling D, play just enough O and get some decent special teams and win. The Vikings dominated with their D and again allowed their mandated 10 points. Bradford does a fine job just getting the points needed and this team is nearly undefeatable. I don’t believe anyone outside of Denver has a shot against this team. Superb win.

3. Philadelphia Eagles (3) – on the bye, are they for real? Maybe, let’s see them kick another good team’s ass and we will know for sure.

4. Pittsburgh Steelers (12) – Wow, I guess they just needed LeVeon to come back. The Steelers were firing on all cylinders tonight. Superb O led by Big Ben, Antonio and LeVeon – triplets if there ever was a group and dominant D and the Steelers put this away early and just piled it on. The two late garbage scores mean nothing. The Steelers slaughtered the Chiefs and look all world and ready to go again.

5. Green Bay Packers (6) – on the bye, the Pack need to show they can beat handily all teams not named Minnesota. They have to protect Rodgers more and maybe play some D.

6. Seattle Seahawks (8) – A good start on the East Coast by the Seahawks. Decent D and some solid O and they have an early lead in this one. The Seahawks were able to use a gimpy Russell Wilson to maximum effectiveness and the Seahawk O made up for a questionable Seahawk D and pulled out a nice win on the East Coast. A good win but this team, forgive me if you have read this before, HAS ISSUES.

7. Dallas Cowboys (9) – The Cowboys got off on the wrong foot and quickly had their D pushed around and found themselves down on the road. Slowly Dak and the O started to chip away and as the game wore on the Dallas D started to play really good defense. I have to admit I was impressed by the quality of D played by Dallas. With solid O played late and the continuation of the D the Cowboys won this game by just a score. It was an impressive win and now I call the Cowboys a good team. If they can play D like this, they may have a shot at the playoffs.

8. Oakland Raiders (13) – The Raiders are amazing so far. They have brought their game onto the East Coast and are playing good on O and D and have a slim early lead. Can they do this for 60 and not get tired? The Raiders played a superb game for 60 and got a lead and held on for dear life and won a good one. Does this mean the Raiders are who I hoped they were? I need to see them play this hard again.

9. Cincinnati Bengals (14) – Did simply getting the dirty playing scum Burfict back change everything for this team? That may show greater issues in Cincy. However, there was a new tone today. The Bengals dominated on both sides of the line with great pass protection and run blocking and superb pass rush and run stuffing. The game was over quick. They made one coverage mistake that cost them 7 but that was it. Otherwise they ran, passed and played D and kicked FGs and won it handily. A good start…they need to do this consistently and against Pitt and Balt.

10. Houston Texans (15) – Houston is finding themselves in a tough battle with a lesser opponent. Some good O and some problems. Some good D and some problems. They need more consistency in the 2nd half to win this game. The Texans battled and battled and played just enough O and just enough D to sneak out a tough fought win. Well done and now they are in total control in their division.

11. Atlanta Falcons (19) – The Falcons have great pass O and some rush and with a modicum of D they are leading the Panthers handily early. The Falcons O impresses me. Ok, these guys can score and score and score. They are not very good on D but they play D enough to let that high powered offense to give this team wins. They are the best team in the NFC South and this could be their year to win the division. I don’t fancy they can beat Minnesota or Denver but they don’t have to in order to win the division.

12. Baltimore Ravens (5) – The Ravens have had a lot of trouble dealing with a feisty Raider team and their O can’t get much going. Without a better performance from Flacco this could be a long day for Baltimore. The Ravens were in a fight until the last play of the game but their D got beaten just a little too much and Flacco couldn’t get it done. A very tough loss and this might have burst the bubble of a team that seemed better than they are.

13. Kansas City Chiefs (7) – The Chiefs were supposed to be an AFC powerhouse but this game has to give them second thoughts on that. They could do nothing on offense and their D had no chance against a relentless Pittsburgh attack. Almost from the first whistle to the end this game was out of hand. The Chiefs need a major regroup. They were destroyed on national tv and looked bad too.

14. Carolina Panthers (10) – Carolina has played better D. But for a pick 6 the D has been pretty bad especially against the pass. The O is doing ok but they are trailing in a hostile environment. The Panther’s vaunted D got hung, drawn and quartered. Would anyone believe a Panther D would allow a 300 YARD receiver and a 500 YARD passer? It keeps being said that this is a great D on a great team. It used to be a great D. Great D’s don’t allow 500 yards passing. The Panthers are falling fast and are not the team that lost the Super Bowl…they are not what they were 8 months ago.

15. Los Angeles Rams (23) – The Rams brought out their D today and I have to say I think week 1 was just the aberration. This D is for real. They have come together and they dominate a game. Superb pass D, terrific rush D. The offense isn’t amazing but they do enough to get it done. This is a lesser man’s version of the Vikings. Solid win and this is the BEST team in the NFC West.

16. Washington Redskins (17) – Cousins has looked sharp early with great affinity hitting Reed for TDs. If only the Skins D could stop the run, they would be in control but they are in a battle thru the first half. The Redskins D finally got better and managed to shut down the Browns in the second half as Washington got a win. It was a tougher fight than they probably thought it would be but it is a win.

17. Buffalo Bills (22) –A super start for Buffalo. Able to dominate on D and get effective O and the Bills are up 13-0 on the hated Pats. Can they keep this going? I don’t believe so but we will see! The Bills played great D and ball control and rolled up and defeated their hated enemy. A great shut out win that Buffalo will need to build on and maybe yet they can save a season that has been sliding downhill since New York. A great win.

18. Jacksonville Jaguars (24) – The Jaguars were winless with nothing to lose but home game concession revenue. They came out fast and Bortles got the O going with excellent passing. By the time the 2nd half started the Jags had the game pretty much in hand and after this dispatching of the Colts they may even start to think they can save their season before it slips completely away. A good win.

19. New York Giants (16) – The G-men had hopes of being a quality team. They met a buzz saw in Purple tonight. The O was shut down and pummeled by Vikings and when they had a chance to make key stops themselves they couldn’t. The OBG side show is getting silly. If he can’t perform then his antics are not really put up able! The Giants fell to earth and are staring up at the Eagles again.

20. New England Patriots (2) – Darth Vader is meeting his on Luke Skywalker early here. No Offense at all and the Pat D making mistakes has the Pats down almost 2 full scores. If this continues like this *highly doubtful* I think I will laugh very loudly. The Pats were beat and SHUT OUT at home by Buffalo. It appears that Belicheat just decided the game didn’t matter. I can’t believe it but it seemed like New England just quit and they lost. Ugly. Sure Brady is back but he can work them back up in my poll because quitters get dumped in my books.

21. Arizona Cardinals (11) – The Cards were in a blood bath from the start against a tough Ram team. Palmer tossed a red zone turnover and that was 24k gold and killed whatever chance the Cards had. The D had issues stopping the pass and the run. There were times when Gurley just rolled through them and that made me shake my head. I had said pre-season that this team was my odds on fave to go Super Bowl. That was wrong. This team is bad. They are 1-3 and are a deserved 1-3. I am of the feeling they are not good and will not make the playoffs.

22. Miami Dolphins (18) – Well it is not fun to play these Thursday night games and playing on the road basically dooms a good team. So this didn’t work for Miami at all. They had O line issues last Sunday and they continued. No ability for Tannehill to get any rhythm and he got battered. The Dolphins just laid a huge egg and were dominated and lost badly but it was a Thursday game so not much was expected.

23. New York Jets (20) – The good is Fitz isn’t turning it over every play but the bad is the D is getting beat and the O can’t keep up. This could be over early in the 2nd half. The game never really got close to being a Jets game. They couldn’t stop the Hawk O and whatever Fitz could muster, half the picks of the previous week, wasn’t enough. Hope the Jets get used to Ls as they have a lot of them coming in the next 4 weeks. A bad home loss.

24. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (21) – Poor Tampa. Jameis got schooled early and often at home. No chance to complete any or do any effective hand offs. The Tampa D got beat just enough to put them down so much not even a thunderstorm could save them. They have been hit by a storm and the storm was the Bronco D. An ugly loss.

25. Indianapolis Colts (25) – The Colts tried to take this on the road and it didn’t work in England either. The inability to cover receivers is bad in any time zone. The Colts D had no answer to the Jag O and Andy Luck couldn’t get enough out of that poor excuse for an offense to get them back in the game. A hard division loss in a foreign country that will give them nothing nice to think about as they face the BEARS instead of being on a bye week. Stupid NFL. Hardly fair.

26. New Orleans Saints (30) – The Saints came out hot and Brees got a quick lead. The terrible Saints D even played decently for a bit. Then reality set in and the usual started. Brees scores, D lets in one, Brees fails, D lets in one. The Saints fell behind and then as it rolled on they fell 2 scores down with time running out. Brees led them on one great drive and then got the ball back and did it AGAIN. The D managed to let San Diego defeat themselves and New Orleans has a win. They suck but they won’t be 0-16.

27. Chicago BEARS (31) – The Bears under the inspired leadership of a real QB (Brian Hoyer) played solid O and the D had their best game of the year. But for a complete brain fart on Special teams the BEARS had the Lions well and truly beaten. The end result was a nice win and if they can just keep Cutler off the damn field the Bears just might win a few. A good win.

28. Detroit Lions (26) – The Lions got destroyed by a fierce D and had no answer to that all day. The D was beaten over the course of the day and never were able to stop the Bears when it counted. They got a lucky kick return and that made it closer than it was. They were soundly beaten and are suddenly the worst team in the NFC North. A bad loss.

29. Tennessee Titans (27) – Titans are giving all they have and are actually tied against the Texans as the first half ends. A pretty good effort, the question is can Tennessee muster this for 60? The Titans actually played another solid full 60-minute game but they were just THAT close to tying it late but couldn’t get it done. A game effort and I believe this shows the team isn’t as hot a mess as I thought. They are a luke warm mess!

30. San Francisco 49ers (28) – The Niners came out hot and Gabbert was able to put up solid numbers and get TDs early. The Niner D held for a bit but time, attrition and lack of talent took its toll and soon they were tied and then lost the lead and when it came down to it Gabbert couldn’t make the plays needed and down they went. This team is just not very good.

31. San Diego Chargers (29) – The Chargers came out and laid an egg early. The Chargers couldn’t get any early traction against a universally terrible Saint D and the Bolts were down 2 TDs. Well the Chargers managed to wake up and started to play O and even a little D and they got it tied. The 2nd half brought solid O and at one point the Chargers had a 13-point lead with under 5 left and one would think that would be safe. Nope. What is amazing is how fundamentally unsound the Bolts played in their last 3 series. It was like they no longer cared and they blew the lead and threw away a shot at getting a winning FG. The ugliest end to a game I have seen in a long time. San Diego, you suck.

32. Cleveland Browns (32) – D had issues early but tightened up late in the first half. Kessler is a revelation at QB. An underappreciated college QB who can play effectively in the NFL. The Browns O used a great rush O to storm back and tie the game early. The Browns again couldn’t play 60 and when they could put themselves in control, they turned over the ball – that is golden – and down they went. A team that just plays under a black cloud.

There you have it, as always I would love it if someone just reads all the way through my ramblings and also will accept money, preferably tens and twenties! Any thoughts, comments, arguments or agreements are always welcome!

Mr. N’s Week 2 Power Poll #NFL #NFLRankings #football

NFL Power Rankings

1. Denver Broncos (1) – The Broncos have been uninspiring at offense but the D has kept them in it and a late pick 6 *pure gold* has then nicely out in front with not much left to play. They just need to hold on to be 2-0. The Bronco D just put the game on ice with another defensive TD. A great D with a mediocre offense and that is enough for them to be undefeated so far. I guess I have to see them lose before they fall in the poll.

2. New England Patriots (3) – Pats tearing up the Fish early and this could be over by the half. Blowing Miami out in handy fashion but the injury to Garoppolo could be significant in the next 2 weeks. They may yet be in trouble unless Belicheck is even smarter than I think he is. The Pats turned to the ground and ran and ran and held on to just sneak out the win. If Jimmy G is out on Thursday then they are in serious doo doo against Houston.

3. Houston Texans (6) – Good first drive killed by a Red zone turnover which is solid gold. The Texans are struggling to get a lot of points and the D isn’t what it is supposed to be so far. They don’t have this in the bag yet. The Texans D controlled the game from that point on and Brock O did just enough to get the Texans a good win. The Texans are doing their part to be in the hunt in a competitive AFC South.

4. Minnesota Vikings (10) – A fantastic game played by the Vikes. Solid D just set the tone from the first quarter on. Sam Bradford didn’t blow the doors off but he was excellent for just 6 days practice. He made long throws, stretched the field, kept the ball moving and even threw 2 tds. The loss of AP doesn’t actually hurt the Vikes at all. He has been largely ineffective when he played and anyone can get 30 yards be it McKinnon or Asiata. The Vikes are going to be fine with that D and Bradford and that D. What a super win by the best team in the division by far.

5. Arizona Cardinals (7) – In control from the start with superb offense and excellent defense. Palmer has shredded for TDs. He did make mistakes but got away with them, which was lucky. Excellent D has destroyed Tampa and this is, was and will be a laugher. A great, easy win for Arizona.

6. Pittsburgh Steelers (9) – Weather having an impact, a tight battle to start and the Steelers take an early lead. The Steelers D is impressive. Their young CB Burns really stepped up to beat AJ Green to a TD. A pretty good half but they need more O. The Steelers used a great run game and overcame some weather aided turnovers to pull out a gutsy division win. A hard fought one that puts them in the early driver seat in the AFC North.

7. Carolina Panthers (8) – Caaaam can’t throw picks and expect good results. The Panthers seem to be dominating the game in all but a wide score. If the game proceeds like this then I would expect Carolina to put this away. The Panthers pulled away and put this game away. It was sloppy with turnovers galore but they got an ugly win to start the turn around on a w.

8. Green Bay Packers (2) – The Packers tried to come out and play typical Packer ball and Aaron Rodgers found he ran into a purple wall. Stopped time and again early the Pack could barely manage to get anything going. Only when a bad penalty gave them field position did they finally break through. As the game wore on Rodgers had no answer for the Vikes D and he was sacked, pummelled and picked. The Packers were outmuscled and overwhelmed by the best team in the NFC North…the Vikings.

9. Cincinnati Bengals (4) – Struggling to get offense working early. The Bengal D is showing its stuff and that is keeping this close as their O is just not getting it done early. Cincy fell too far behind to be able to fight all the way back. They got within 1.5 possessions but couldn’t finish and one has to wonder about the veracity of the Bengal D after the first two games.

10. Baltimore Ravens (14) – Getting slammed by the Browns early. Are Baltimore really as bad as I thought they were in the preseason? Well here comes the Ravens. They have stormed back and are now battling and I will not be surprised if they win this one in the 2nd half. The Ravens put this game away in the 2nd half and are a pretty surprising 2-0 but again I have some real doubts about how good this team is.

11. New York Giants (20) – The G-men shut out early by a bad D, makes one scratch one’s head. I am dumbfounded how this game is a low scoring thing. How are the Giants not taking apart this bad D? What will the 2nd half bring? The Giants had to fight tooth and nail to just be in the spot to pull out a late win. They are a pretty lucky 2-0 and although they are leading the East they are not really classy and I need to see the O work after stumbling against a BAD Saint D.

12. New York Jets (16) – The Jets showed a lot last night and the only impressive parts were the W, Forte’s performance and Brandon Marshall getting up off the deck. Revis is done, Fitzpatrick is the only QB who can be held to one TD and it be said he was Namath-esque (I credit ESPN.com for that stupidity). The Jets won the start 20-7, lost 3 minutes 17-0 and then won the last 27 minutes 17-7. They can proudly say the won week 2. If they win one of their next 4 I will be surprised. They are not a good team.

13. Oakland Raiders (5) – The Raiders have had trouble stopping the Falcons. The O struggled to get going early but have come on late and are now in a see saw battle. Will take a lot of guts to pull out this one if they can. The Raiders just didn’t have it this time. The D just couldn’t get it done and in the end they let in more than Oakland could score. A bad loss for a team that now is back looking up at the Broncos. Will the Raiders take the next step or is this just another year?

14. Kansas City Chiefs (12) – The Chiefs are giving it although playing really shorthanded today. The Chiefs are having trouble getting points but the D is bending but not breaking They could yet win this game if they have another 2nd half rally in them. The Chiefs didn’t rally, they didn’t have the O today and they went down to a Texan team that just out muscled them. A loss.

15. Seattle Seahawks (11) – I cannot believe how bad the Seahawk offense is. They have been stifled by the sad sack Rams. Their vaunted D has been unable to hold down LA and they have not gotten TDs but they get FG after FG and since they can’t score any points it doesn’t matter. I can’t believe how bad the Seahawks look. They are not a good offensive team and I don’t know if they are very good at all now.

16. Dallas Cowboys (27) – Elliott first TD gives the Cowboys an early lead. Not a great game by far but very mechanical and just getting enough done on O and D to be relatively in control at the half. This was an ugly game for Dallas. This late come from behind win is nice and all but it doesn’t make them all that. They have issues on D and on their alleged good O line and Elliot is this generation’s Tiki Barber for ball handling. Ok you won. You aren’t playoff bound yet.

17. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (15) – Well I guess Tampa can’t travel very well either. Their young and getting better D has been schooled by a tough team in the NFC. Winston didn’t have an answer and they have been pummeled. An ugly loss to hopefully just forget about.

18. Philadelphia Eagles (25) – The Eagles came out very workman like and were held to FGs for the first half and then they got it going with some quietly decent Wentz play and some solid rush O. The Eagles D held down a bad Bears O and the Eagles O put up the points and this game was over by early in the 3rd quarter. Good win for not a great team.

19. New Orleans Saints (18) – The Saints shut out early by the G-men. Hmmm. The Saints are not getting any O from Brees but their D is really playing above their heads and they are trailing. Game still potentially theirs if they can score some. The Saints played D way over their head but had trouble scoring and in the end they lost the game by missing a cover on a long pass. A tough loss but 0-2 for a team with this many issues isn’t where you want to be.

20. Miami Dolphins (19) – The Dolphin D has no answer to Tom Brady…or Jimmy G or anyone in a Pat uniform. The Dolphins have been battered and beaten and this is probably over but the somewhat cheap shot on the Pat QB may have the Pats in longer term trouble. The Dolphins got a lot of points in what could be called garbage 2nd half possessions and they brought it close but lost. The game was not actually as close as the score and Miami is not very good.

21. Washington Redskins (17) – Cousins still looking troubled with inconsistencies and not getting any offense early. The Skins finally got on the board but unless their D really picks it up, especially against the run, they could be in for a long afternoon. Cousins and the Skins brought it hard in the 2nd half and gave as good as they took and for a while they almost had this in hand but they let in the last score and down they went. They are now not the class in this division and probably will finish 3rd.

22. Detroit Lions (21) – Stafford is making the O work but not getting points but the D is playing well. The Lions are back in their self-defeating ways. The Titans try to give Detroit the game and Detroit penaltied themselves out of it. They need to be more disciplined in the 2nd half. Well how did that happen? The Lions were stopped by the Titans much too much in the 4th quarter and in the end their D didn’t get it done and they lost. This is a hard loss and makes one question the viability of this team now.

23. Jacksonville Jaguars (13) – The hopes of the Jags appear to be a year early, even by me. Good young teams need to learn how to travel and play well and Jacksonville hasn’t taken that course yet. Turnovers have been pure gold and that and penalties and missteps and they are on the receiving end of a blowout. They are not the Texans and I think Houston can breathe easier now. An ugly loss.

24. Chicago BEARS (22) – The Bears were all set for this game and then it started and it all fell apart. Cutler couldn’t lead a hungry dog to a steak dinner. He played poorly and then poorly and then he got a little hurt and he threw a pick *or he threw a pick and said he was hurt* and however close the game was at 30 it was all over by 60. The Bears D had a good front 7 *now 2 of those guys hurt* and no secondary and those bums are healthy. It was an ugly prime time loss and the BEARS I hope are shooting for the first pick and they can get DeShaun Watson to play QB.

25. Tennessee Titans (28) – The Titans are having trouble on both sides of the ball early. The Titans are really struggling on Offense and would be well out of this game if Detroit didn’t let them off the hook over and over again. What a gutsy and surprising win for Tennessee! I don’t think I can remember when the Titans fought back, took lead and then held on. They pretty much played 60 and won. Hunh. Let’s see them win another.

26. Los Angeles Rams (29) – Well the Rams can’t do much on O but the little they could do was enough. Who would think 3 field goals would be enough to win a game? The D has so little talent it is beyond amazing that they have shut down Seattle. A great win for the city of Los Angeles but this team is NOT great.

27. San Francisco 49ers (26) – Unable to get 7 on a red zone turnover but still trying hard this week. The Niners do not seem to be all that this week and are having problems with getting much out of their O unless they have a very advantageous field position. The Niners got beat down but battled back to make it closer. Turnovers destroy a team that is less talented and lost a game they didn’t have any business being in in the first place.

28. San Diego Chargers (30) – The Chargers exploded out of the gate and took over the game with solid O and D. Unlike week 1, they never took the foot off the gas and just have kept pouring it on. For a team without a lot of talent this is an impressive win and maybe this terrible group can build on this one.

29. Atlanta Falcons (31) – The Falcons have brought a solid offense give or take a bad Matty Melt pick and their D bends and breaks and bends again. Late in the game they have a small lead and the question is can they hold it for a road victory? The Falcons got their victory with their D not being much but Matty melting Ice got it done and put the game away. A good road win for a not very good team.

30. Buffalo Bills (23) – What can I say about the Bills? They had trouble establishing the run. Tyrod Taylor looked great with his throwing and running. The D seems decimated by injury and suspension. Stephan Gilmore was torched over and over. The D has huge issues and this 0-2 start will lead inevitably to an 0-4. Good news is they should be 2-4 by week 6 which will be 1 game better than the Jets expected 1-5 so yay Buffalo??? A bad loss.

31. Indianapolis Colts (24) – The Colts have been having great trouble getting points against the Broncos but Luck worked every trick he had. With pure verve and gusto, he managed to get the game tied. Unfortunately, he learned what everyone already knows…turnovers are gold and his pick 6 may have sealed the game. Does Luck have one more comeback in him? Nope Luck had a fumble that turned into a Denver TD so that didn’t help a comeback. A bad offensive day for a team that needs to get all the O it can to have any shot. A bad 0-2 team.

32. Cleveland Browns (32) – Beyond amazing start for Cleveland, McCown is playing great. Then he got dinged up and the Browns have stalled and now are fighting to somehow keep ahead in a game they were leading by 18 early. The poor Browns had this game and lost the lead and couldn’t score again. What a terrible loss that will just rip the guts out of the Browns fan base.

There you have it, as always I would love it if someone just reads all the way through my ramblings and also will accept money, preferably tens and twenties! Any thoughts, comments, arguments or agreements are always welcome!

AFC South 2016 Preview #NFL #NFLTrainingCamp

We have a changing of the guard in the AFC South…

Jacksonville Jaguars – a team with a great young QB and a superb group of receivers and now a solid run game adds some new depth on o-line. The big addition is a great amount of talent inserted into the woe-begone D. This team will have a pass rush now, they will stop the run and they can cover. They have a pretty easy schedule and this thing comes together in 2016.

If all goes well they are 11-5
if it’s more like 2017 then it’s 8-8

I believe 10-6 and they win the division.

Houston Texans – this team is banking on Brock to be their QB and that is a big maybe. They have added speed on WR and hope their D can keep it up or get better. I am not sold on the O and must see it to believe it.

If all goes well they are 11-5 and sneak the division
if their QB is crap they are lucky to be 7-9

I believe 9-7 and sniffing at a wild card.

Indianapolis Colts – They are paying Andrew Luck $$$$$ to have last year be an aberration and they believe Gore can still run, and their pretty worthless WR core can somehow be good. They have improved the O line. The D has one slightly over rated corner and a very old pass rusher. Their D will be ripped every week. They are like the old time Raiders with maybe scoring lots but letting in lots. Their approach to the D…use the same players and hope they are better reminds me of Einstein’s definition of insanity – doing the same thing over and hoping for different results. A poor team.

If all goes well they go 8-8
If they are battered they could be 5-11

I believe 6-10 and probably the end of Pagano in Indy.

Tennessee Titans – the rebuild continues with QB set and a good TE and, and, and well they have a QB and a TE. They have added Murray and Henry so they can power run but have no WR and their line is still poor. Their D is a joke and their schedule is hard for them.

If all goes well they could be 5-11
If it all falls apart they might be 1-15

I believe 4-12 and one more year of ‘wait til next year’.

Thoughts?
