Last Week Week 12
1 1 Philadelphia The Eagles did a great job of taking on an opponent of much less ability and they didn’t mail it in.  They methodically took the BEARS apart and showed great O and D and special teams and put it away fast.  A nice win and now they will be able to battle the character heavy and talent light Seahawks.
2 2 Minnesota The Vikings came out on the road on a short week and made pretty short work of the same old sorry assed Lions.  They had some issue getting things kicked but ran well and played super D and got a good division win.  A fierce team that is a beast in the NFC.
5 3 New England The Pats took on a bedraggled Miami team and for a while it was close. Then the Pats poured it on and blew them away.  With other ‘top’ teams either losing or playing like total crap it has now become apparent – even to a Pat disliker like me – that the Pats are the best team in the AFC.
7 4 Carolina In a tight battle all game with a pesky Jet franchise the Panthers were finally able to use some excellent D play to win the game.  Caaaaaaam did his thing tho the team struggled on O for most of the game.  They are fundamentally sound and are but for the Saints the top team in the NFC South.
4 5 Pittsburgh Stop me if you have heard this one before.  The Steelers crawled on their stomachs out of the Packer game with a win.  They evidently, from the coach down, are looking past every team in anticipation of playing NE in week 15.  If the Steelers can’t do more on D or O than they have shown in the last few weeks it will be Butt Ugly when they face New England.  They do not have enough talent to try so weakly, week in and week out.  They are looking all the world like a one and done in the playoffs.
11 6 LA Rams Well how about those Rams?  I was under the opinion that they couldn’t play with the big boys but they have proven me wrong.  They took on a tough Saints team and beat them.  The D made some superb plays and Goff looked dynamic.  The Rams have righted the ship with this effort and now I just need to see them play this week again against another powerhouse team.
3 7 New Orleans Ah the Saints.  It was thought that the Saints D would be more than a match for LA BUT…evidently their prowess relies heavily on 2 guys from secondary.  Down a starting CB and S and the Saints secondary was vulnerable and got scorched.  Brees tried but just couldn’t get enough points.  They either need to figure out how to have backups play well or they need to get healthy fast.
9 8 Baltimore The Ravens are playing a steady beat on their seasonal play list.  They play great D and get barely enough O and win a bit.  They beat a troubled Houston team with great D and ok O. I think they are trying to repeat the ways of 2000 with a great D carrying them BUT…this isn’t 2000 and just a D isn’t going to get it done.
12 9 Seattle The Seahawks are marvelous in the way they keep going with less and less healthy players.  They gutted out another win with some inspired play by backups on D and some more solid O.  I am not sure how far this team can go with the decimation of their roster but they will get as far as heart takes them. They could use a new place kicker.
6 10 Jacksonville To go against Gabbert and lose?  The entire franchise should hang their head in shame.  That D allowed a bum of a QB leading a bum of a team to beat them.  Bortles made critical errors and that pretty much cost them the game.  They need a QB they can rely on…Eli perhaps?
10 11 Houston What is left of Houston lost a close one on MNF.  They gave about as much as they had on O and D but they are just a shadow of what they could have been and are more than likely just going to play out the string now.
13 12 LA Chargers Well the Chargers went on the road on Thanksgiving and ripped the Cowboys a new one.  Superb D that dominated, Rivers was spectacular and they were unstoppable with the pass offense. They won a laugher and are still alive for a wild card if not the division since every team in the AFC West sucks.
14 13 Tennessee Tennessee continues to be an enigma.  They had a great difficulty dealing with the Colts.  I know there is some kind of negative mojo about playing Indy but Manning isn’t there any more.  They managed to gut out a win but this is the most unimpressive team with a winning record not named KC.
15 14 Washington The Skins took 30 minutes to get it going but they gutted it out and beat a Giants team that tested them.  The Washington D was solid and their pass rush made a difference.  A good win that extremely marginally keeps their post season hopes alive.
17 15 Atlanta The Falcons tore apart the Bucs with great passing and put up huge numbers.  Everyone says they are on the way back to the Super Bowl but I think that is an overreaction to a team that has yet to really beat anyone who is good.  I still think they will be on the outside looking at Carolina and New Orleans while those two make the playoffs.
20 16 Cincinnati I will give Cincy credit for going against a bad Cleveland team and they didn’t mail it in.  They used a balanced O and played some decent D.  This team is still not able to beat anyone who plays legit football, but this was a good win.
21 17 Oakland Oakland managed to keep their playoff hopes alive with a win over Denver.  They only have hope because KC is terrible.  They could lose the division to the Chargers who are playing well.  The Silver and Black still has a ton of issues but winning this game was better for them than losing.
22 18 Buffalo The Bills rallied from what had to be one of the worst time periods in franchise history that didn’t involve losing multiple Super Bowls and rallied and beat what used to be a good Chiefs team.  It was a heck of an effort by a team that has every reason to quit.  This win put some life back in their fading playoff hopes.  We will see if they can do it again.
8 19 Detroit The Lions had a shot to get close to the Division lead with a short week home game but they instead pulled out the Lions playbook – penalties, mistakes, overthrows, turnovers.  The Lions did as much to defeat themselves as they did simply lose by being beat.  A loss that almost ends their shot at the playoffs barring their unlikely chance of winning out.
18 20 NY Jets The Jets have the wild and crazy offense down pat don’t they?  They battled a better Panther team for 60 and it was touch and go right to the end.  Can’t fault the Jets O as they did all they could and it was the D that let them down.  A good effort in a tough loss.
19 21 Tampa Bay Tampa Bay did what is almost impossible and made people all get excited over Atlanta.  They let Julio Jones get a zillion yards and made Matty Melt look good again.  Terrible D and lack of O and they now are turning back to the yet to be convicted thug.  Good luck in the Bay of Pigs.
16 22 Kansas City Just how bad are the Chiefs?  They lost at home to a Bills team that was sinking so fast they make lead balloons seem highly floatable.  They were able to get no offense and their D let in just enough to lose again.  There has to be some serious consideration to whether or not they win another game this year.
27 23 Arizona Well the Cardinals surprised everyone including me with this win.  They got one of the oldest guys in the NFL to kick a 57 yard GW field goal and beat a team that should have massacred them.  Gabbert had a great game *for him* and the O was able to scorch a great D and they won.  Hunh.
23 24 Indianapolis Another Colt game where they showed heart.  They give all they have and each player tries hard for 60.  They sneak a win here and there but I think the Colts have to be pleased with the effort week in and week out.  There could be some real keepers on this roster going forward.
25 25 Green Bay Talk about the benefits of using the post office.  Green Bay was able to have their young QB look like he had talent against a Steeler D that mailed it in for about 59 minutes.  They couldn’t stop the big units from Ptitsburgh but this is the crappy Packer D who can’t stop a rain drop from hitting the ground.  They lost a close one but at least they still lost.
24 26 Dallas How ‘Bout D’em Cowboys??? That was hilarious!  The Cowboys have no offense, the rush is flat without the woman beating scumbag and Dak seems overwhelmed. The Wide Receivers are simply not who anyone thought they were.  Dez is old fast and the rest of them are has beens or never weres.  Slaughtered at home on Thanksgiving, feast on that JJ!
26 27 San Francisco The Niners were beaten pretty handily by an undermanned Seattle team.  Their O had nothing going for 58 minutes and then Beathard got hurt and in came Jimmy G.  Talk about instant love with the fans…in one minute tosses a TD and looked like Montana.  He is starting now and may be there for a decade.  Things now looking up for San Francisco.
28 28 NY Giants The G-men gave what they had to make Washington work to beat them.  Their D let in the points that killed them and the O couldn’t score enough.  The nightmare continues as the Giants lost another.  And now they have benched Eli for Geno FREAKNG Smith! What kind of a maroon makes that call? McAdoo.  I think they just flushed the rest of the season.
29 29 Chicago The Bears got schooled and there is no fault here for them. They were taken apart from start to finish by the best team in the NFL.  On to next week, maybe they can beat SF but with Jimmy G it will be harder.
30 30 Miami In some ways this game was a moral victory for Miami.  They kept it close against NE for awhile and late in the game they still had a slight hope until a golden turnover ended it.  They were put away but they were never embarrassed.
31 31 Denver The Broncos had a plan to get Lynch under center and make it happen and all that happened is he got hurt again and they returned to the mistakes at QB who already have shown what they can’t do.  The D was the pedestrian joke of a ‘good’ D and they were dispatched with clarity by the Raiders.  A team going nowhere with no QB.
32 32 Cleveland Ah the Browns. They might have had a shot against Cincy but it faded fast.  They fell behind, they didn’t answer and the D was shredded by the run game.  The lack of direction at QB and just the feeling the team is lost and out of control must float over the stadium.  Sadly for Cleveland, this is the WORST team in the NFL.

NFL Power Rankings

Last Week Week 11
1 1 Philadelphia The Eagles slept through the first half and basically carried their statemate’s playbook.  They were in a tight battle with a very bad team and it looked in doubt.  Then they played the 2nd half and blew the Cowboys out.  Domination by run, pass, rush, tackling . . . everything!  The Eagles silenced the Cowboy mouthpieces (both on the NFLN and other broadcast mediums) and showed everyone why they are the BEST.
2 2 Minnesota The Vikings faced a real challenge against the best O in the NFL and the first drive went through them.  Then the Vikings D got into it and they totally shut down the Rams.  The Vikes O ripped it with solid pass and run and they won this going away.  They should be primed to eat Lions for Thanksgiving lunch.
3 3 New Orleans Got to give New Orleans credit for taking on a Skins team that brought it all and they never gave up.  They were down big in the 4th but that didn’t hold them.  The Saints battled all the way back and won this game.  That wasn’t pretty but it showed a ton of heart and that counts big late in the season.
4 4 Pittsburgh The Steelers slept through the first half of TNF.  Kudos to Big Ben as he went in and screamed at his team and through stuff too.  Hopefully some of it hit their O/C (must be Haley trying to focus the ball on Bryant).  The second half was a revelation and they dominated and won going away.  They need to build on that 2nd half.
5 5 New England The Pats once again played it smarter than everyone else.  They stayed above altitude for a week so Mexico had no impact on their conditioning and they dominated from the get go and blew out the Raiders.  Sometimes it is a head scratcher why only New England thinks of doing smart things.  That was a good win.
7 6 Jacksonville The Jags found themselves in a fight early and had to battle to beat the winless Browns.  They used some good D and effective O and won the game.  They now control their own destiny.
9 7 Carolina On the bye and a team that is in control of their destiny and have to be faves to make the playoffs as a card.
11 8 Detroit The Lions were battled all game against the BEARS.  If not for a Defensive TD they might have lost this game.  They won again and now they need to beat the Vikings at home on Thanksgiving.  I don’t believe they can.
23 9 Baltimore The Ravens got their D going today and pitched their 3rd shutout of the year.  This D makes this team legit.  With the other team in the Wild card trying to destroy their own chances…Baltimore has a good shot at taking over the wild card spot #2 and could control their own destiny for playoffs going out.
15 10 Houston The Texans were able to get a solid win with Savage at QB.  I didn’t think that was possible but the turnovers helped.  It was a nice win and puts a hint of oxygen back in a team that was on the critical list.
6 11 LA Rams Well now the Rams gave me the result I was looking for.  They CANNOT play with the big boys.  Until LA is able to battle against the Seahawks and Vikings and beat them they will just be a young team who can beat on the littler guys.
8 12 Seattle The Seahawks showed the world that you can battle with no D but if your kicker fails you, you lose. They started slow, caught up and played in a shootout until Wilson drove for the trying score and the kicker blew it.  TruBEARSky knows how Wilson feels.  Tough loss.
16 13 LA Chargers The Bolts took offense that Buffalo decided to start a rookie QB against them so the D was on fire! They totally crushed the kid in 30 and built up a huge lead and then topped it off with a 50 burger.  The best win LA has had since they were San Diego.  A dominant win with some surging D.
10 14 Tennessee Played a heck of a first half on TNF and got blown out huge in the 2nd half.  They are lucky to still be in a wild card slot but they need to get a lot more focus and cut down on the turnovers.
13 15 Washington What a gutsy effort the Skins put up.  They had the Saints beaten and were up by 15.  The D blew another and they lost one they had in the bag.  Another good effort ended in a loss.  A team that tries but doesn’t succeed.
12 16 Kansas City What a mess the Chiefs are.  They didn’t run and they let a bad rush D beat them by not challenging it.  They thought they didn’t have to try against NY and it cost them.  They are lucky they are in a division with no other decent teams but they are rapidly becoming a 1 and done in January.
24 17 Atlanta The Falcons took their newly found offense and put up big points against an injury riddled D.  That the Falcons scored 34 on the injured Seahawks isn’t surprising.  How did the healthy Falcon D let in 31 and nearly 34? Me thinks all the people rushing to put this team in the playoffs failed to consider this D has issues.
21 18 NY Jets On the bye and a team that is going no where and having a week off just made them healthier and unable to do anything.
25 19 Tampa Bay Gotta give Tampa Bay credit.  They were in a tight game all day long and pulled out the win in the end.  Having the not YET convicted thug of a QB on the bench injured has made them a lot easier to cheer on lately.  Fitzpatrick is quickly guaranteeing himself a big pay check in 2018 with these performances.
28 20 Cincinnati The Bengals took advantage of playing a soft team with no QB (even less of a QB than Cincy uses) and put a firm beating on the Broncos.  Doesn’t make them playoff bound but it was a good win.
17 21 Oakland The Raiders looked like a team suffering altitude sickness.  They had no answer on O or D and they were just put away by New England.  Looks like the Raiders are done and now just need to find a nice place in the shade to sit.
19 22 Buffalo Well how did that turn out?  They benched Taylor and their rookie tossed FIVE picks.  It is said there was a locker room confrontation with screaming at being done by the Coach and spitting at being done by Taylor and then they put Taylor in and he put up 20 odd points.  The stupidest thing is how Buffalo says they need to review the results to see what to do in week 12.  Really?  They were destroyed by the Chargers and it was all the fault of the OWNER for pushing the coach to do this and now they nee do see what to do?  Me thinks the owner has said ‘you can’t play Taylor’.  Odd and the team is circling the bowl fast.
22 23 Indianapolis On the bye and a team that is going no where and having a week off just made them healthier and unable to do anything.
14 24 Dallas How Bout them Cowboys? They played it close for 30 and then evidently gave up and were blown out.  They are 4 out in the division and here’s hoping this hangs over onto Thanksgivins so I can watch Dallas get stuffed by LA.
18 25 Green Bay What a glorious performance they had at home.  Shut out and massacred by Baltmore.  I haven’t enjoyed a Packer game like that in 3 decades.  The play of Hundley was terrible, the D is bad and the team is pushing up Daisies.  I hope they all R-E-L-A-X. lol
26 26 San Francisco On the bye and spent the week trying to figure out who plays QB.
20 27 Arizona The Cardinals were reduced to their 3rd QB (they have an allergy to letting their top drafted QB play) and Gabbert played like Gabbert played in Jacksonville.  They were in the game for a bit and then turnovers were gold and they were beaten by a badly disabled Texan team.  What an ugly loss.
32 28 NY Giants The G-men took advantage of KC mailing it in and played a pretty mediocre game but won.  They had some D but were never really challenged.  They had very little O but got just enough to sneak out a win.  They are beyond terrible but they have 2 wins.
27 29 Chicago What can I say about TruBEARSky? This franchise QB does everything asked of him and more and once again he put the BEARS in position to tie if not win and this time the FG was missed.  The BEARS have something special and now need to build around him.  It sucks they have blown two wins in a row at home but I am heartened by the play of our Franchise QB.
29 30 Miami What is worse for Miami? They pay Cutler 10 million to play and he gets hurt again but then again he tossed 3 picks before bowing out.  The Fins have taken what could have been a pretty good season and pissed it away and now they need to start building for next year…again.
30 31 Denver The Broncos had no offense again and the D allowed lots because they are not only soft but overrated.  They fired the O/C (yeah it’s his fault they used Osweiler) and now they are going with Lynch.  Good luck kid, this team is sinking hard and fast.
31 32 Cleveland The Browns once again played pretty hard for the first half but faded and lost again.  They had a couple of turnovers and still no real plan at QB.  They are winless, directionless and sit in last place.

Mr. N’s #NFL Week 9 Power Poll #PowerRankings

NFL Power Rankings

Last Week Week 9
1 1 Philadelphia One would hope the doubters about this super team will all be quieted now.  They utterly destroyed Denver (albeit a terrible Denver with an old and pretty useless D) and Wentz seems to love his new weapon Ajayi.  They are about as flawless as any team and are heading to their bye with the trip to Minnesota in February in their sights.
2 2 Minnesota On the bye and looking ahead wouldn’t this D against Phlly be an entertaining NFC Championship game?
6 3 New Orleans The Saints are on a roll, a good Saints roll – probably full of fried catfish with some amazing creole spices and tasty cheese.  They are hotter than they have been since their Super Bowl year and they have a test this week.  If they keep winning they may be a challenger for Philly.
3 4 Pittsburgh On the bye and are pretty much in the best shape this team has been, can they remain focused going forward?
4 5 New England On the bye and since I don’t have any respect for them they fall a spot.
7 6 LA Rams The Rams are adding success to their exciting style of play.  They easily put a 50 burger up on the Giants and just rolled along.  The interesting thing is the D is starting to take shape and if that comes into focus and you add that to the explosive O and LA has something to be excited about.
12 7 Jacksonville The Jags came off a bye and evidently Bortles didn’t forget that he had a good game pre bye.  Now for two weeks  in a row Jacksonville has looked like they have a NFL QB.  They even benched all world Rookie RB Fournette for the game and never missed a beat.  A team that now has a legit shot at taking the AFC South title.
5 8 Seattle The Legion of oops played a lot on Sunday and boy were there oops.  The Seahawks are a mistake filled team with a potentially explosive O but only if they can hit the deep passes.  This is a good but not great team.
10 9 Dallas The Cowboys were given a disgusting reprieve and were allowed to have their woman beating scumbag play and they rolled to a win.  I refuse to give them any credit as long as that miscreant escapes his punishment.
13 10 Washington The Skins played another solid game but this time they used D and timely O to come up with a soild road win.  The Skins D showed no quit and was a force for the whole 60.  They haven’t had this much effort very often this year.  It may be too late but if they played like this the entire second half they could resurrect their playoff hopes.
9 11 Houston The Texans lost their QB but showed tremendous heart in the effort they put out.  They did just about everything but win and that kind of effort will win them a lot of pride if not actual wins.
11 12 Kansas City The Chiefs seem to be the shadow of who they were when they started the year.  The flaws in D are getting exposed and they look beatable by any good running back.  Alex Smith can’t make every throw and they all need to be made the way the D is playing.
16 13 Tennessee The Titans took on a bad Ravens team and beat em.  These Titans are still a bit of an enigma.  They are not as good as many thought but they can manage to win a game.  I just think they are not quite playoff caliber yet but give them another year.
14 14 LA Chargers On the bye and the Bolts need to see if they can regain the mojo they had before New England stole a game from them.
18 15 Carolina Caaaaaam used his renewed running skills to dominate the game and give the Panthers a nice division win.  The whole world seemed to give them no shot but Caaaam and Luke turned the tide.  The D was ferocious and the O did just enough to win one.  They will have to be better than New Orleans but they are much better than Atlanta.
23 16 Detroit The Lions went into Lambeau Field and pounded the Pack.  It was a glorious win and one they haven’t enjoyed in that building since the days when Fontes coached and Barry ran.  What a superb division win over a now very BEATABLE Packer team.
22 17 Oakland Oakland looked flat for 30 and then found a running game and managed to eke out a win against the Dolphins.  It didn’t actually save the season but it was better than a loss.
8 18 Buffalo The TNF monster bit the Bills.  They were flat, unable to perform and looked lost.  They looked like a team that played hard on Sunday and couldn’t get ready for a TNF game on the road.  It will happen to everyone practically for the rest of the year.  They need to bounce back against the Saints.
27 19 NY Jets The Jets took advantage of being at home on TNF and torched a flat Bills team.  This was a great win but home teams on Thursday have every chance to do this every week going forward.
28 20 Arizona The Cardinals have transformed into a strong run team with a touch of passing and some decent D and are starting to get momentum.  AP is still a child beating scumbag but he has crawled out of his NFL grave and is running like a man who beat his child and got away with it.
29 21 Indianapolis The Colts took down a Texan team spinning out of control.  Brisset looked great and perhaps having Luck not staring over his shoulder helped there.  A solid win and they even played some D.  Lets see them do this again.
24 22 Chicago On the bye and having a decent year all things considered.  Will be interesting to watch them play GB this week.
19 23 Baltimore The Ravens were in the game all game but were unable to make the key plays necessary to win.  They lost a close one to a relatively unsure team.  They needed this win on the Steeler bye week to try to keep pace.  They are in bad shape now.
15 24 Green Bay The Pack are back!  Back to how they played in 1990!  Ah the wonderful days of the ‘Bay of Pigs’ games from way back in Pete Axthelm’s days on ESPN Countown.  They were massacred by Detroit and now I am ever hopeful the BEARS can pile on this week.
17 25 Atlanta Atlanta got beat over and over by the Panther run game and Matty Melt couldn’t make the throws when the game was on the line.  The Super Bowl hangover is a looooooooong hangover.
21 26 Cincinnati The Bungles were destroyed by the Jags.  The once, when Zimmer was their Co-ord, vaunted D was destroyed.  Their red haired nightmare QB can’t score any points.  A team in total disarray.
26 27 Miami The Dolphins did all they could against the Raiders but win.  They led often, they battled back when down to make it very close.  A good effort in a tough loss.
25 28 Denver The no fly zone is the come fly with me zone.  The Broncos suck at D and are worthless at O and suffered a monster 50 burger being served to them.  It did me good to laugh at the vaunted Denver D getting pasted.
20 29 Tampa Bay The Bucs are terrible.  The root of this is the lack of leadership shown by Winston.  He was a scumbag lying, assaulting piece of garbage in College and now that has come to the NFL.  The antic of being too hurt to play but not to cause a fight in a game…no QB of any salt does that.  This team is going nowhere with that unconvicted felon at it’s helm
31 30 San Francisco The Niners continue to push Beathard out at QB but for the added pleasure he now has to look over his shoulder too.  They were beaten by an understrengthed Cardinal team but they gave a fair account of themselves.
32 31 Cleveland Congrats Cleveland you moved up one slot because you are a hot mess but not as smelly as the Giants.
30 32 NY Giants The G men stunk out the NFL in a fashion I don’t believe I have witnessed for decades.  The sheer magnitude of their suckage…they had to be awarded 32 slot.  It can’t be worse than it is right now for New York.
Thoughts, Comments, Questions, Arguments, Agreements?  All welcome! As always I will be happy to take money, preferably tens and twenties!

NFL Power Rankings

Last Week Week 8
1 1 Philadelphia It seems Philly thought they could mail it in and didn’t put much effort into the game for a while.  Upon giving their heads a collective shake they rallied and blew out the Niners.  Still the best in the NFL, until they lose again.  This just in, the rich got richer with adding Ajayi for nothing.  What a steal and boy does this set this team up for the Super Bowl.
3 2 Minnesota The Vikings went across the pond and slept through the first half and made England think Cleveland had a shot.  Thankfully the 2nd half was a bit more effective for Minnesota as they put away the Browns in cake walk fashion.  That was an ugly start to a solid finish but a win is a win.
4 3 Pittsburgh Bend don’t break defence started and ended with the Steel curtain.  They played a sloppy brand of football and let Detroit move between the 20s but Pittsburgh showed some character and gutted out a win.  The long catch by Ju Ju was ironic considering the crap Bryant said about him.  Not a pretty win but it counts.
5 4 New England The Pats got another win by any means necessary.  They nearly blew the game to LA and had great difficulty stopping Rivers.  There were several times when calls went NE’s way (I still think they league is paying them back for Bounty gate) and they crawled out with a win.  They are 6-2 but in my world they are a bad 4-4 so they are a not impressive 6-2.  This just in they traded Jimmy G and now unless Belicheck thinks he can toss the rock I don’t know who is backing up a rapidly aging and badly hit Brady.
6 5 Seattle You can’t say enough for the Seahawk O but at the same time you cannot say enough how bad the Legion of oops is.  Wilson and the O won this game for the Seahawks after their D gave up the game.  They won but as the weather gets colder and the field conditions get worse they will need someone on the D to make the odd tackle to get them any where.
8 6 New Orleans The Saints managed to get a win against the fiesty Bears.  They played some good D and scored just enough points to win altho it would have been a heck of a lot closer if the BEARS TD had been allowed to stand.
7 7 LA Rams On the bye and the most exciting team in the NFL gets to see if they can keep it going in the second half.
9 8 Buffalo The Bills won a nice game with some dominant D and some solid O and special teams.  They jostled with the Raiders for 30 and then blew them away.  Adding WR Benjamin makes this team one that is serious about hunting down the vulnerable Pats.
2 9 Houston Man, I feel for Deshaun.  He does all he can do and he basically sets wins up on a platter and then must sit and watch the D blow it.  This flashed me back to RGIII’s rookie year when he would win games for the Skins and watch the D lose them.  Who ever would have thought that a Texans team that can put up 30+ every game can’t win because their D allows nearly 40.  A bad loss.
11 10 Dallas The Cowboys won a big game on the back of a woman beating scumbag who is now FINALLY suspended.  It will be fun to watch the Cowboys struggle and to have all the talking heads trip over themselves explaining away the struggles by saying …if Zeke (the woman beating scumbag) was here…Good luck (not) Dallas. The sked gets hard and your team is gonna suffer lol.
14 11 Kansas City The Chiefs seemed to have found their offensive mojo against the once vaunted Broncos.  Great O and some inspired D and they simply outplayed Denver.  Lets see KC do it again.
12 12 Jacksonville On the bye and the Jags will now be another team who needs to see if they can keep it going in the second half.
10 13 Washington The Skins had another tough game and the D had trouble dealing with a woman beater.  (kind of like the perversion of justice handed out by the local cops in Dallas and the courts in Dallas too.).  This has been a really tough stretch for Washington and for the most part they battled.  The schedule gets easier now and they could still be heard from for a wild card.
13 14 LA Chargers The Chargers went to New England and if two of their TDs had counted they would have won.  They made it close and played a hell of a game.  Hard to beat Darth Vader on the Death Star when the universe doesn’t allow any calls against  him.  Good game in a loss.
15 15 Green Bay On the bye and tried probably to dig up a QB somewhere.  They didn’t and they are going to suffer badly going forward.  Not the worst news for me, The BEARS Fan
16 16 Tennessee On the bye and the Titans have been on and off and hot and cold.  Will the real Titans play the second half?
17 17 Atlanta The Falcons managed to crawl on their bloated stomachs out of the game with the Jets with a win.  This team is in no way good or able to beat anyone of any talent.  They are a bad team playing with a mediocre QB and a Super Bowl Loss Hangover.
18 18 Carolina The Panthers parlayed the return of Keuchly into a passionate D that dominated.  The O did very little but it was little enough to let them get a win.  They are still having huge issues on O and D.
20 19 Baltimore The Ravens looked superb but they did against at home against a tired team.  They did play solid D and good O but you can’t take much from this as this is an outlier and not truly representative of the abilities of the Ravens.  That Flacco got hurt actually is a flat line event as he is no longer any good any way.
19 20 Tampa Bay The Bucs look bad and have little or no O.  They were shut down again and Winston now looks like he may not be NFL worthy.  A team in GREAT Trouble.
27 21 Cincinnati The Bengals managed to just beat the Colts.  This was a pretty ugly effort by every facet of their team.  They won but my goodness this vaunted D had trouble with the Colt O.  That seat must be hot under Lewis.
21 22 Oakland The Raiders can be given credit for playing a soild 30 minutes but they ran out of gas, luck and D and got rolled up by Buffalo.  The season is now very much in doubt and I don’t think the Silver and Black can pull this one out.
22 23 Detroit The Sad sack sorry ass Lions actually played about 30 good minutes but with their O being only able to operate between the 20’s it was inevitable that they would lose.  The coaching decisions continue to make little sense and how long that coach lasts as this team sinks is a good question.
23 24 Chicago The BEARS gave a good shot in New Orleans.  This game really turned on the TD catch by Miller that was changed to no catch.  It is hard for a guy who ruptured an artery in his leg to hold on the ball while grabbing his injured knee.  That BAD call cost them 7 and likely gave the game to New Orleans.  A good effort and Trubisky looks like the Second Coming for Chicago QB.
24 25 Denver The Broncos got whupped by KC and their D had no answer for the speed of KC.  That is surprising as this D is purported to be the BEST EVER.  This just in, they are not, they have no QB, their O is weak and their D can be beat.  A team in big trouble.
25 26 Miami For the first time this year the ugliness of playing on TNF appeared.  A Dolphin team that has looked solid on D and was getting it’s legs on O with a legit QB simply looked tired, out of sorts and unable to focus.  This was probably aided by the fact they have been going hard since week 2 and have no byes this year.  A total mess but can’t put much on this as this was TNF.  This just in they traded their RB for a bag of chips.  The year is over for Miami.
26 27 NY Jets The Jets played a decent game and did everything but win against Atlanta.  It is funny that watching the Jets is entertaining as they just sling the ball all over and sometimes they score.  They aren’t great but they can be fun to watch.
29 28 Arizona On the bye and they still intend to go with Stanton at QB.  Too bad they couldn’t just stay on the bye.
28 29 Indianapolis The Colts managed to nearly beat the Bengals.  They are a team with huge holes every where and I am not certain they will win many more this year but they did give this a good try.
30 30 NY Giants A bad team on a bye.  Sometime during the bye their top CB got suspended indefinitely.  That is the second member of the secondary suspended.  Maybe this head coach doesn’t really reach the players?
31 31 San Francisco Got utterly pulverized a second week in a row.  Their young rookie QB had another tough learning experience but it wasn’t going to be pretty while he got his feet under him.  They had a good plan, let Beathard learn and see if he is the guy or then go for Cousins in 2018.  Ok so, why did they trade for Jimmy G????? Are they trying to find their inner Brown?
32 32 Cleveland The Browns led at the half this week for the first time this year.  Unfortunately they had to play the second half and got smoked.  To add insult to their winless season they were in negotiations with Cincy for McCarron and failed to finalize the deal by the deadline.  Only Cleveland can do that.

NFL Power Rankings

Last Week Week 7
1 1 Philadelphia Well I guess Monday night showed the football world that the NFC East title goes through Philly.  Let the talk about Dallas fade away now.  What a team.  The D is astounding and Wentz is dramatic and dynamic.  Until someone beats them they are the BEST.
2 2 Houston Took a bye and now they get quite the little challenge in week 8.  On the road to Seattle, this will show us how far Deshaun has come.
3 3 Minnesota The D is the beast that powers this squad.  With ok kicking and some offense here and there this is the team to beat in the NFC North and if they get steady O they can challenge Philly.
5 4 Pittsburgh The Steelers took down a division rival who’s only talent is having a scum bag who tries to injure and a red haired nightmare at QB. They had good O and played decent D and won it.  They need to continue to show this level of ability for me to believe they can challenge Houston.
7 5 New England The Pats beat the Falcons using all their patented ways including fogging up the stadium.  The D shut down a Falcons team that is but a shadow of itself.  Brady still looks 40 and a few more hits and he may be taking a 40 winks dirt nap.  They won. Whoopie. They are still 3-4 in my mind.
10 6 Seattle The Seahawks played a great game.  I cannot make as much out of it as others since they only stomped all over a Giants team who can barely get 43 people to stand for the anthem let alone 53 to play.  Just because NYG beat Den doesn’t make them good and the win by Seattle was well done but they didn’t beat an NFL team.
14 7 LA Rams The most exciting team in America took the show on the road wowed the Brits.  I can’t guarantee the Rams will win every game going out but I can guarantee it will be fun to watch them try!  What a great team effort they bring and with a great young coach things look good in LA!
16 8 New Orleans The Saints went to Geek Bay and slayed the Dragonless Dragons.  A simple mopping of the floor of Green Bay by the Saints ended all the Pack talk.  Without any doubt this is the BEST team in the NFC South.  Now they have to face the BEARS.
11 9 Buffalo The Bills did what they had to and they won a hard fought game.  Solid and intelligent QB play combined with good Running and that great D and here come the Bills.  Solid special teams too.  The Bills make ya wanna shout!
8 10 Washington The Skins gave their all on the MNF.  They played the Eagles very tough for 30 and then just got steamrolled by a better team.  It is kind of unfair that they are measured up by how they play the Eagles.  Measure them by how they kick the crap out of the hapless Cowboys.
12 11 Dallas The Cowboys blew out the Niners who are winless and started a rookie QB.  They have a woman beating scumbag at RB and a mother beater at WR who is crying for the ball.  This is a bad 3-3 team and could be pasted this week.
20 12 Jacksonville The Jags had another great week and Bortles set team records with his effort.  If, IF, they can get that play from the QB and add to it Fournette and that D then Jacksonville will be playing in January.
21 13 LA Chargers Well now what do we have hear but the Chargers have found their mojo!  They must have decided that winning was better than losing because now all they do is win.  They shut out the hapless and incapable Broncos and looked great doing it.  Go Bolts.  Someone go to one of their games ok?
4 14 Kansas City The wheels have come off in KC.  What was what a superb O sputter and sputs.  The D that was to be shut down doesn’t shut the door on any team at any time any more.  If they don’t win against Denver they may be heading south super fast.
6 15 Green Bay The Pack fell to earth with a thud.  ALL the talk of how they would coast without Rodgers ended with the first bad play by GB.  They were beaten badly and looked bad doing it and now one has to wonder if they can win any game without Rodgers.
17 16 Tennessee Well they crawled past the worst team in the NFL with an overtime win.  I guess you could laud the D but you must have grave concerns about the severe lack of O.  The Titans have had bad O issues even with Mariota so they have problems.
15 17 Atlanta Oh the Super Bowl loss curse is alive.  The Falcons looked like garbage, played like garbage and lost handily to a not very good Pat team.  The offense has gone south and the D isn’t what is was in the early part of the season.  They may be hard pressed to make the playoffs.
9 18 Carolina The Panthers swaggered into Chicago and lurched out losers.  Caaaaaam turned it over and learned again turnovers are gold.  Unable to get any O going they played good D but never were in the game.  The Panthers have a TON of issues.
19 19 Tampa Bay The Bucs lost a close one to a stong Bills team.  They had about as good of an effort as I have seen them put on this year.  Let’s see them do it again and they might win one.
18 20 Baltimore Flacco found out the Viking D is what QB nightmares are made of.  The Ravens never had a shot in this game and were quite lucky to get the points they did.  They are more than a step below the Steelers and maybe John’s bro can find him a college coaching job after he is canned.
30 21 Oakland The Raiders from Week 2 appeared and wow.  Carr looked amazing, the D played ok and Cooper finally woke up.  I would love to see them do this again as this win puts them back in the race in the AFC.
22 22 Detroit On the bye and didn’t move an inch because heck I don’t move them much if they fluke out a win.
28 23 Chicago As a long and hard suffering BEARS Fan this team is giving my Sunday afternoon weary Football soul a lift.  Mitchell TruBEARSky is not Joe Montana but he gets it done.  They have won 2 in a row for the first time in way over a year.  Can they keep it going?  They have D, some O, solid special teams and seem like a team who is just having fun.  Go BEARS!
13 24 Denver Shut out by the Bolts! What a great thing to happen to the no longer swaggering Broncos.  The no fly zone has become the come fly with me but the offense is the no score zone and now the question is not can Semien do it but how long until Lynch comes back.
26 25 Miami That was so unfair to everyone who picked against Miami and Cutler.  Cutler got creamed, they brought in a real QB and now the Dolphins are a dangerous team.  The longer Cutler is out, the better shot Miami has of challenging the Overpoweringly WEAK Pats.
23 26 NY Jets Nothing surprised NY more than a real QB coming onto the field.  McCown did what McCown can do and turned the ball over a lot and they lost.  The Jets are very loose on offense and they can score but they can look ugly in the attempt none the less.
24 27 Cincinnati Went and got whupped by Pitt.  Dalton was the Red haired nightmare of a QB I knew he was.  Burfict showed again that he should be banned FOREVER for his kicking a Steeler in the head.  There is no logic for the NFL to not suspend the 1,000,000 time offender.  The Bengals are a mess.
25 28 Indianapolis Shut out and looked bad doing it and then looked worse with the tossing of each other under the bus.  I am not sure Andrew Luck will want to come back and play for this team.  That O line couldn’t block snails from crawling past them.  Terrible team.
27 29 Arizona So much for AP being the new David Johnson.  Turns out he is just AP and he signed up for 11 carries for negigible yards.  Palmer went down and since they won’t put Mahomes in they are going to sink with Stanton.  Whatever impossible hope they had is gone.  Sharpen the fork and stick it in them deep.
29 30 NY Giants The Giants took a couple of weeks to show everyone that with NO WR they suck.  They were shut down and looked pedestrian.  The O line is terrible, the run game is terrible, the receivers *excepting the rookie TE* are terrible and the D ain’t what it was.  Boy they stink.
31 31 San Francisco So much for the Niners being close in every game.  They were blown out and it probably had a lot to do with the bitter pill of turning to a rookie QB for the long term benefit but short term pain.  Hoyer can keep it to within 3 while they lose but they get no where doing that.  Beathard may be the real deal. It will be ugly while we watch to see if he is.
32 32 Cleveland The Browns lost again.  This time they lost their LT and they continue to play musical QB.  With no concept of a plan they can not make any progress.  I am at this point not sure if Cleveland can ever resurrect the franchise and maybe they need to blow it up and move it to England.

Mr. N’s #NFL Week 1 Power Poll #PowerRankings #NFLThoughts

2017 Power Poll Week 1
Last Week  Wk1
2 1 Green Bay Played a solid game and won it pretty easily.  Too early to really judge how good the Pack D is until they play a team with an actual offensive line.
4 2 Oakland Was a superb game from start to finish.  Given a gift of a free possession they never looked back and kicked a much hyped Titan squad all over the place.  The Silver and Black look very legit early.
1 3 New England They got pounded in the 2nd half, 4th quarter specifically.  It seemed that Brady was flat, the D can’t deal with speed and this either will be the wake up that inspires them or the slightest chance this is signalling they are on the way down.
5 4 Minnesota Wow what a game!  Bradford had the best game of his career and the Vikes D brought it like everyone knew they would.  Their kicker even kicked field goals.  If they can maintain this effort they could challenge GB.
8 5 Kansas City A superb win and too much can be made of this easily.  What we can take away from this is that Alex Smith threw a great deep ball and now he has targets who can run.  The Chiefs lost Berry at S and that may do more to harm this team than this win does to make them better.  Still a great start to their year for one game.
11 6 Dallas A good game by the Cowboys with solid O.  The D here is also hard to judge since they faced a team with no offensive line whatsoever.  How good they are will start to be shown in week 2.
3 7 Arizona Well they played a pretty good 45 minutes but then their D just crapped out and they lost one late.  They should have won it and now we have to wonder if they are just old?
7 8 Pittsburgh They struggled on O all day and had to battle to overcome a game Cleveland squad.  LeVeon showed clearly how important preseason is.  A solid D, a bad O and they need to get their game on quick.
12 9 Carolina What a nice gift to start the season, they played SF and walked all over that moribund team.  A good win against a bad opponent.
10 10 Atlanta The Falcons had all they could handle from the BEARS and they barely eeked out a win.  That says more about the issues Atlanta has then how good Chicago may be.
15 11 Denver The Broncs had the game well in hand, their D got scorched late and then they snuck out on the tummy with a close win.  If this represents the D then there are problems a mile above everyone else.
17 12 Baltimore A great win for the Ravens.  The D looked fierce and the O was solid.  Can they keep this up is the question.
16 13 Tampa Bay on a weather bye and this means no breaks rest of year so this will be a bad year for a team that was on the rise.
20 14 Detroit The Lions looked like the same old sorry assed Lions for 45 min and then the most overpaid QB in America led another come from behind win.  We will see how good they are as time goes by.
23 15 Philadelphia Philly played a great game and looked solid on O and D.  They are one of the few teams I saw that looked Legit.
9 16 Houston Evidently the emotion of the week wore on them and they were flat on all aspects.  They have  short week and are starting a rookie QB.  Good luck.
26 17 LA Rams That was the week’s biggest blowout but we must temper our enthusiasm until they play like that against an NFL team.
24 18 Jacksonville They had a great game against a team who didn’t seem to be there.  You do have to be impressed by the Jag D.  Seems what I saw coming in 2017 may have arrived in 2018.
13 19 Seattle The smell in the North West isn’t fish, it’s the Hawk O line or lack there of.  Unless they figure out how to block someone this team is in serious trouble.
14 20 Tennessee Hunh.  Dumb coach call #1 is the onside kick to start the year.  And they lost it and let in a TD. It was pretty much over then.  We will see if they have any of the ability the pundits think they do.
20 21 New Orleans They were hung drawn and quartered by the Vikes.  So much fot the vaunted improved D. The D still sucks.
19 22 Washington You can’t turn the ball over a million times in a division game and expect to win.  They need better discipline to start and maybe better O too.
30 23 Buffalo A great game but they did beat the Jets who are doing all they can to lose em all.  A nice win though.
25 24 LA Chargers They had a slow start but gave their all and nearly stole a division win.  A good effort in a loss.
27 25 Cleveland They played a hard game and Kizer looked good. The D looked impressive.  Can they get that effort for 60 is the question.
6 26 NY Giants They had no O line and if they have no O without gloves then this team is in great trouble. The D got scorched too.  I need to see them play better to have my preseason faith restored in any way shape or form.
22 27 Indianapolis If they play as bad as they did in Week 1 in week 2 they will be on an express ride to 32.  That was horrible.
28 28 Miami on a weather bye and this team wasn’t very good to start with so this pretty much guts any chance they didn’t have to be a force in the AFC. (This was already gutted when they hired Jay fricking Cutler to QB them.)
21 29 Cincinnati No offense and the D looked bad.  They need to bounce back on Thursday or the coach’s ass is on fire.
29 30 San Francisco What a terrible performance by a universally bad team. They are as bad as I thought they were.
31 31 Chicago My BEARS gave a game effort and but for multiple drops they might have won this game but close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades and North Korean Nukes.  A loss is a loss.
32 32 NY Jets This is the home of dumb coach decision #2 – down 2 scores late with a 4th and short near midfield what do they do?  Punt and never get the ball back.  I think they are intentionally trying to lose them all.

MR N’s Exclusive #NFLDraft Second and Third Round Thoughts #NFL

nfl draft 2014

First thoughts – how stupid is Cleveland to cut Barnidge because they drafted a round 1 TE? Has Cleveland missed the whole 2 tight end set that has been in vogue and successful for the last half decade?  The Jets showing that type of team is common in the bottom feeder world – they got Jamal Adams a super star Safety so they are getting rid of Calvin Pryor who was over matched in the QB Safety role but might have shone as a #2 under Adams but nope the Jets think you only need 1 safety.  Reasons why teams like Cleveland the Jets just lose and lose and draft high and draft high.

Round 2

Green Bay takes Kevin King CB and he will help a Pack secondary that has had issues *happily to a BEARS Fan* for the last few years.  This will make them better.

Seattle trades to Jacksonville and Jags take Cam Robinson T.  O line from college are very hard to see how they clearly transition to the pro game so it may take Robinson a while to get NFL ready but he will be a good one.

Seattle – Malik McDowell DT – another Seahawk D project not unlike the one they drafted a couple of years back. Frank Clark thanks Charles Davis Typical Hawk pick.

Chicago traded another pick because they are allergic to taking top talent and when they use a top pick they pick stupidly.  Arizona has the pick and takes Budda Baker S when they mighta taken a QB but they got another good addition to what already is a great secondary.

Buffalo trades in to take Zay Jones WR – a bit of a reach for Buffalo but they must like how he fits into their receiving corps.

The LA Bolts take Forrest Lamp G The best interior lineman is now a Bolt protector.  He will help keep Rivers upright while the QB cashes AARP checks.  Good pick.

New York Jets take Marcus May S because as long as the sun rises in the East the Jets need help in their secondary.  Question is which Safety will they trade or cut now because the Jets don’t like depth.

Carolina picks Curtis Samuel RB/WR and he will add depth to the receiver corps which lacks it.

Minnesota Vikings trade up and take Dalvin Cook RB – thank the good Lord they didn’t take the woman beating scum and they took a guy with super talent who hangs with bad dudes but maybe the cold air will keep him on the straight and narrow.  Superb pick if they can babysit him in off hours.

New Orleans Saints take Marcus Williams S to work to give the woeful Saint D someone who can do something to stop the opposition from scoring.

Philadelphia Eagles pick Sidney Jones CB and he woulda been a top 20 but for a torn acl thingy and he will be back and he will be potentially a shutdown corner once healthy.

Rams are taking Gerald Everett TE and they lost a few receivers and never really have had any since Warner was their QB so this guy can catch some.

CHICAGO BEARS are actually picking someone – they take Adam Shaheen TE – nice St Jude moment there and a brave little BEARS Fan read the pick.  Chicago has been lacking a great TE since they traded Olsen and if Shaheen can transition from small school to NFL then this big beast could be a good pick.

…now only comments on picks that illicit commentary from me….

Cincinnati Bengals took Joe Mixon RB and girl abuser, numerous times, violently argumentative with parking attendants.  The entire State of Ohio and Michigan and Iowa and perhaps Indiana needs to start protesting at their mini camps and pre-season and regular season.  Playing in the NFL is a privilege and not a right and this thug has given up the rights to the privilege and doesn’t deserve the chance.  A pick that will resonate on the Bengal organization.  Congrats you took a thug who can play.  Guess if Aaron Hernandez was alive they might have traded for him.

The Skins took a good Bama LB and that will help that team, various lesser light d players are going off the board.

Cleveland finally drafts a QB and they take DeShone Kizer and he will need to grow and perhaps he can learn behind Kessler for a while and then they will potentially have a franchise QB in Cleveland for the first time in a VERY long time.

Lions grab Teez Tabor and he will add some talent to their D.  The Lions get better now.

OakVegas took Obi the unpronounceable CB and he is tall and will give them a jolt and help that secondary that had issues get better

The Texans added LB Cunningham who slid because he doesn’t sack the QB but a solid LB who can just tackle and cover will fit in very well in Houston.  He’s Vandy too.

Pittsburgh Steelers drafted a WR named Ju Ju and he will give them a solid 2 to play opposite AB and this will make the Steeler O even more dangerous.  Great pick

Nice inciting of potential riots in Philly by Cowboy Drew Pearson

2nd round ends with Panthers taking a Tackle and they can use depth on that Panther line

Third round

Highlights only…

The Saints take Alvin Kamara a first-round RB and that is a talent steel.  The Saints are filling the team with RBs and me thinks if Kamara is who Mike Mayock says he is * I do believe what Mike says* then AP may not want to take a long-term lease in New Orleans because there may not be much work for an over the hill fading child beater with someone like Kamara and Ingram there.

Rams take WR Cooper Kupp and I feel like I know him having had him on NFLN every fricking week.  He is a decent WR and will be a decent WR in LA with Goff if Goff can ever become an NFL QB.

Vikings took C/G Pat Elflein and he may not be all that but last year they were pulling people off the street to play O line so any help is good help.  A good pick.

Cincy at 73 grabs DE Jordan Willis and he coulda been a first-round pick and he may not fully fit in as he is not a scumbag but he can play.

The Saints took Anzalone the LB and he woulda been higher picked if he didn’t have health issues.  Good potential if healthy.

Denver takes a fast if fragile WR Carlos Henderson, he can be quick but can he be consistent.

New England Patriots finally make a pick at #83.  One wondered if they would EVER pick but they do and they pick Derek Rivers DE a small school guy who can sack the QB and The Patriot Way will make him the most dangerous and this will make the Pats better of course.

Pats 2nd pick in 3 is Antonio Garcia T This kid could one day be a LT, he is a beast and will be a super addition to a line that needs help.  This guy could be Solder’s replacement according to Mike Mayock the Draft God.

Chiefs take Kareem Hunt RB and if he brings all he did in college then there is another changing of the guard at RB in KC coming quick.

The Giants took QB Davis Webb and this guy is the perfect Eli backup as Eli is long in the tooth and Webb needs an Aaron Rodgers grooming period then he will take over.  Superb pick for the G men.

Texans took good guy D’Onte Foreman who will be a big body RB who gets the short yardage and goal line job and keeps Lamar Miller healthy.  Great spot for a good guy.

A lot of secondary additions late in the 3rd round a couple of team added big O line and D line.

Niners added a kid QB late C.J. Beathard who I guess they are hoping for a Dak Prescott like turn from.

An interesting if poorly run 2nd night of draft and it took a lot out of me for this so you are all pretty much on your own for the 4th to 7th rounds.  Enjoy the rest of the draft and remember people like Brady and Sherman came in the late rounds so don’t sleep on the talent that comes late!
