Mr. N’s #NFL Preseason Power Poll Teams # 24-17 #NFLTrainingCamp #NFLPreseason

NFL Power Rankings

Here is part 2 of my preseason prognostication…

24 – Miami Dolphins – This team was a top 15 in my early thinking and then they lost Tannehill and brought in Cutler. Nuff said.

If all goes Bad Cutler – 3-13
If all goes likely Cutler – 5-11
if Cutler doesn’t play like a total putz – 7-9

23 – Philadelphia Eagles – They have Wentz getting better but now have a bit of a mixed bag of receivers and still are trying to get their legs under them with RB and TE. The D can be solid but without a fully functional O this could be another rough year in Philly.

If all is bad – 4-12
In all likelihood – 6-10
If Wentz is super – 8-8

22 – Indianapolis Colts – This team wasn’t very good with Andrew Luck healthy and now he is dinged up and coming back slowly from injury. This is not going to be a good year for the Colts.

If all bad – 5-11
If they are ok – 7-9
If Luck is superb – 9-7

21 – Cincinnati Bengals – They missed the playoffs last year for first time in 5 years and this year…it will be twice in a row. They are getting old and not getting better and their hope is based on people who haven’t played well yet will play better. Good luck with that.

If the year explodes – 5-11
all likely – 8-8
if Dalton has a little magic – 10-6

20 – Detroit Lions – A team that persistently has a dark cloud over their head and never gets any breaks or luck. They aren’t much better and they plan to dump tons of $$$ on Stafford who has never done anything. He is the dictionary definition that throwing for 5,000 yards doesn’t mean much any more.

If very Detroit like – 4-12
If they play like they could – 8-8
If they play 60 all the time – 9-7

19 – Washington Redskins – The only break they have caught this year is to have Elliott suspended on Dallas. They have a QB who is probably mad at management and they seem to lack a lot on D. No Division title here.

if it’s bad – 4-12
they are probably – 8-8
Their best is – 9-7

18 – New Orleans Saints – Brees and his O take this team as far as it goes. The D still (STILL) has issues. They are the same team they have been for years.

if they are bad – 5-11
If they are who they are – 8-8
if the outscore many – 10-6

17 – Baltimore Ravens – A team that did a lot for D but did Nothing for O except lose 2 starting linemen. They are getting old and can’t score any points.

If they get old fast a dismal – 3-13
If they are ok – 8-8
If Flacco has a great year – 10-6.

There you have it!

Top 16 left…

either in 4’s or 8’s time depending!

Mr. N’s #NFL Preseason Power Poll Teams # 32-25 #NFLTrainingCamp #NFLPreseason

NFL Power Rankings

Hey everyone! The off-season has come to an end, the regular season is just about 4 and a 1/2 weeks from now and now is the time to whet people’s appetites for the fun that is to come!

I will be doing my Preseason power poll as a backwards countdown from 32 to 1.

We start with the bottom 8…

32. The New York Jets – A team that has embraced the word tank. They divested themselves of most key veterans and have done little to put any talent out at the majority of their positions. They are aiming to get QB Sam Darnold with the first pick *the fly in that ointment is that Darnold may not go pro but that would be Jet luck.

Worst and most likely case – 0-16
Best case scenario – 3/13

31. Chicago Bears – A team that traded the moon for a QB and now must pay the piper. They have RBs, a decent O line and better D than before but there is an atmosphere of free falling here and they play a tough schedule.

Worst Case – 1/15
Likely – 2/14
Best Case – 4/12

30. Buffalo Bills – The Ralph will be the scene of much Ralphing this year with this group on the field. Led by an ownership group that doesn’t seem to have any direction, this team is going to struggle.

Worst Case – 2/14
Likely – 3/13
Best – 5/11

29. San Francisco 49ers – New regime and they are building a good base but they need to grow together and get experience and that will take time. They are also in a pretty tough division so the learning part may not be pretty early.

Worst Case – 3/13
Likely – 4/12
Best Case – 5/11

28. Miami Dolphins – This team was going to be a top 15 but then Tannehill got hurt and they dug the rotting corpse of Jay Cutler out of his football grave and gave him the starting QB job. Any hope this team had went south with Cutler trying to sign his contract but over throwing the pen and signing the plant on the desk.

Worst Case – 2/14
Likely – 4/12
Best – 5/11

27. Cleveland Browns – They are not going to be as bad as they have been lately simply because other teams are worse and they get to play them. They are getting a bit more talent and may challenge teams more consistently as they grow.

Worst case – 2/14
Likely – 4/12
Best case – 6/10

26. Los Angeles Rams – A team trying to grow with a young QB who needs to learn fast. They may yet get something going with Goff but this is a tough Division and they have a hard sked.

Worst case – 3/13
Likely 6/10
Best case – 7/9

25. Los Angeles Chargers – A new town, an old QB and a tiny little stadium to play in this year. A head coach with no experience but a D that is getting better. They have already suffered a key injury losing who was touted as potential offensive rookie of the year (Mike Williams WR).

Worst case – 4/12
Likely – 6/10
Best – 8/8

Next post starts with team 24…

End of #NFL Mandatory Minicamp Thoughts #NFLMinicamp

We are about 6 weeks or so from training camp and ODG actually showed up at a team event!

Several teams quit a day early like my BEARS. Well it shows need for improvement doesn’t necessarily define required work in the NFL.

I have been thinking about the tale of two teams this week. Both teams are now in the category of doing something never before done in the NFL that will be or has been then outlawed.

One team has repeated done things that helped them win championships but the season after the NFL says ‘that was not right and cannot be done again’.

The other team is doing something so they will lose every game and get the top draft pick. That will be banned after this season.

Team 1 – New England – doing all it can within and without the rules to win.

Team 2 – The Jets – cutting all stars to tank and get the first pick.

A tale of two franchises.

MR N’s Exclusive #NFLDraft Second and Third Round Thoughts #NFL

nfl draft 2014

First thoughts – how stupid is Cleveland to cut Barnidge because they drafted a round 1 TE? Has Cleveland missed the whole 2 tight end set that has been in vogue and successful for the last half decade?  The Jets showing that type of team is common in the bottom feeder world – they got Jamal Adams a super star Safety so they are getting rid of Calvin Pryor who was over matched in the QB Safety role but might have shone as a #2 under Adams but nope the Jets think you only need 1 safety.  Reasons why teams like Cleveland the Jets just lose and lose and draft high and draft high.

Round 2

Green Bay takes Kevin King CB and he will help a Pack secondary that has had issues *happily to a BEARS Fan* for the last few years.  This will make them better.

Seattle trades to Jacksonville and Jags take Cam Robinson T.  O line from college are very hard to see how they clearly transition to the pro game so it may take Robinson a while to get NFL ready but he will be a good one.

Seattle – Malik McDowell DT – another Seahawk D project not unlike the one they drafted a couple of years back. Frank Clark thanks Charles Davis Typical Hawk pick.

Chicago traded another pick because they are allergic to taking top talent and when they use a top pick they pick stupidly.  Arizona has the pick and takes Budda Baker S when they mighta taken a QB but they got another good addition to what already is a great secondary.

Buffalo trades in to take Zay Jones WR – a bit of a reach for Buffalo but they must like how he fits into their receiving corps.

The LA Bolts take Forrest Lamp G The best interior lineman is now a Bolt protector.  He will help keep Rivers upright while the QB cashes AARP checks.  Good pick.

New York Jets take Marcus May S because as long as the sun rises in the East the Jets need help in their secondary.  Question is which Safety will they trade or cut now because the Jets don’t like depth.

Carolina picks Curtis Samuel RB/WR and he will add depth to the receiver corps which lacks it.

Minnesota Vikings trade up and take Dalvin Cook RB – thank the good Lord they didn’t take the woman beating scum and they took a guy with super talent who hangs with bad dudes but maybe the cold air will keep him on the straight and narrow.  Superb pick if they can babysit him in off hours.

New Orleans Saints take Marcus Williams S to work to give the woeful Saint D someone who can do something to stop the opposition from scoring.

Philadelphia Eagles pick Sidney Jones CB and he woulda been a top 20 but for a torn acl thingy and he will be back and he will be potentially a shutdown corner once healthy.

Rams are taking Gerald Everett TE and they lost a few receivers and never really have had any since Warner was their QB so this guy can catch some.

CHICAGO BEARS are actually picking someone – they take Adam Shaheen TE – nice St Jude moment there and a brave little BEARS Fan read the pick.  Chicago has been lacking a great TE since they traded Olsen and if Shaheen can transition from small school to NFL then this big beast could be a good pick.

…now only comments on picks that illicit commentary from me….

Cincinnati Bengals took Joe Mixon RB and girl abuser, numerous times, violently argumentative with parking attendants.  The entire State of Ohio and Michigan and Iowa and perhaps Indiana needs to start protesting at their mini camps and pre-season and regular season.  Playing in the NFL is a privilege and not a right and this thug has given up the rights to the privilege and doesn’t deserve the chance.  A pick that will resonate on the Bengal organization.  Congrats you took a thug who can play.  Guess if Aaron Hernandez was alive they might have traded for him.

The Skins took a good Bama LB and that will help that team, various lesser light d players are going off the board.

Cleveland finally drafts a QB and they take DeShone Kizer and he will need to grow and perhaps he can learn behind Kessler for a while and then they will potentially have a franchise QB in Cleveland for the first time in a VERY long time.

Lions grab Teez Tabor and he will add some talent to their D.  The Lions get better now.

OakVegas took Obi the unpronounceable CB and he is tall and will give them a jolt and help that secondary that had issues get better

The Texans added LB Cunningham who slid because he doesn’t sack the QB but a solid LB who can just tackle and cover will fit in very well in Houston.  He’s Vandy too.

Pittsburgh Steelers drafted a WR named Ju Ju and he will give them a solid 2 to play opposite AB and this will make the Steeler O even more dangerous.  Great pick

Nice inciting of potential riots in Philly by Cowboy Drew Pearson

2nd round ends with Panthers taking a Tackle and they can use depth on that Panther line

Third round

Highlights only…

The Saints take Alvin Kamara a first-round RB and that is a talent steel.  The Saints are filling the team with RBs and me thinks if Kamara is who Mike Mayock says he is * I do believe what Mike says* then AP may not want to take a long-term lease in New Orleans because there may not be much work for an over the hill fading child beater with someone like Kamara and Ingram there.

Rams take WR Cooper Kupp and I feel like I know him having had him on NFLN every fricking week.  He is a decent WR and will be a decent WR in LA with Goff if Goff can ever become an NFL QB.

Vikings took C/G Pat Elflein and he may not be all that but last year they were pulling people off the street to play O line so any help is good help.  A good pick.

Cincy at 73 grabs DE Jordan Willis and he coulda been a first-round pick and he may not fully fit in as he is not a scumbag but he can play.

The Saints took Anzalone the LB and he woulda been higher picked if he didn’t have health issues.  Good potential if healthy.

Denver takes a fast if fragile WR Carlos Henderson, he can be quick but can he be consistent.

New England Patriots finally make a pick at #83.  One wondered if they would EVER pick but they do and they pick Derek Rivers DE a small school guy who can sack the QB and The Patriot Way will make him the most dangerous and this will make the Pats better of course.

Pats 2nd pick in 3 is Antonio Garcia T This kid could one day be a LT, he is a beast and will be a super addition to a line that needs help.  This guy could be Solder’s replacement according to Mike Mayock the Draft God.

Chiefs take Kareem Hunt RB and if he brings all he did in college then there is another changing of the guard at RB in KC coming quick.

The Giants took QB Davis Webb and this guy is the perfect Eli backup as Eli is long in the tooth and Webb needs an Aaron Rodgers grooming period then he will take over.  Superb pick for the G men.

Texans took good guy D’Onte Foreman who will be a big body RB who gets the short yardage and goal line job and keeps Lamar Miller healthy.  Great spot for a good guy.

A lot of secondary additions late in the 3rd round a couple of team added big O line and D line.

Niners added a kid QB late C.J. Beathard who I guess they are hoping for a Dak Prescott like turn from.

An interesting if poorly run 2nd night of draft and it took a lot out of me for this so you are all pretty much on your own for the 4th to 7th rounds.  Enjoy the rest of the draft and remember people like Brady and Sherman came in the late rounds so don’t sleep on the talent that comes late!

10 Days Before the #NFLdraft: #NFL TV Thoughts #NFLNetwork

nfl draft 2014
We are headed towards the NFL Draft.  Haven’t been able to follow it as closely this year since Path To The Draft on the NFL Network has sucked this year and is so bad we stopped watching it.

What has happened as of yesterday is the must-ignore NFL broadcast crew has been formed.

CBS was Nantz/Simms and back in the day, Mike Carey.  Mike Carey was vilified by critics ostensibly for errors but I believe it was more due to his color.

Now CBS is going with Nantz/Romo and Dean Blandino.  The Comedian who knew nothing about being a ref is now going to be the on-air ‘ref’ expert with Romo the untested.  Me thinks muting CBS prime time and 4:30pm games this year may be mandatory.

I think Dean Blandino should go run a comedy club.

Random #NFL Free Agency Thoughts #NFLFreeAgency

Hey NFL fans!

Plenty of changes have come to the NFL with free agency.  Latavius Murray is now the feature back of the Vikes and our resident Vikings Fan is over the moon!  Glennon is the QB in Chicago and let me speak for every BEARS fan everywhere when I say anyone or anything is better than Cutler.  Kendell Wright is an interesting WR for Chicago.  Marshawn Lynch out of retirement to Oakland would be a story.  If the Giants are paying J-P-P-one-hand all that cash then they expect more from him than I do.

Best line I heard this week from Dan Patrick’s show – with the assault charges dropped against Revis – now there is no record of Revis hitting anyone in 2016!

Oh and the Pats seem primed to win again and Jerry is doing Romo right by stringing him along!

Thoughts?  Tons other stuff has happened.  Check out your fave NFL source for all the moves!

Mr. N’s #NFL Conference Championship Weekend Power Poll #Rankings #Patriots #Falcons

NFL Power Rankings

1.            New England Patriots (1) – Came out with a simple game plan, beat the zone D of Pittsburgh.  There were holes that Jabba The Hutt could have run routes through.  Brady channeled his inner Darth Vader and tore them apart.  They scored and scored and scored.  Their D stopped them in the red zone over and over and even got turnovers.  The game was over well before the 4th Quarter and now The Evil Empire and Darth Vader are on their way to their 9th Super Bowl.

2.            Atlanta Falcons (4) – The Falcons got off to a fast start with a TD and a FG.  Their D played strong and kept getting turnovers.  Ryan was superb.  He spread the ball around and burned them with Sanu, he burned them with Julio, he burned them with Freeman.  By the half they were up by a ton and by the 4th quarter they had put up a 40 burger.  A dominating and powerful win that showed Atlanta at the top of their game.  If they play this way two weeks from now in Houston they could win the Super Bowl.  A great win.

3.            Pittsburgh Steelers (3) – Word of warning to rest of the NFL.  Even is your opponents are a bunch of A**holes -don’t call them that on social media.  Pittsburgh came in with that over their heads and then their D proceeded to play a weak zone that was tore apart again and again.  Big Ben overthrew deep balls and sometimes receivers dropped it too.  Down by a ton they got a little against prevent but too little too late.  A bad loss and they need to work on their D and find a pass rush with consistency.  A little better bulk on the O line wouldn’t hurt.

4.            Green Bay Packers (2) – From the start the Pack D was unable to stop Atlanta.  They fell behind early.  The Packer O missed a FG, fumbled in the red zone and were down 17 fast.  Aaron Rodgers tried to run a table but tripped over the leg and fell down.  He reared back to throw one of his classic ‘hail mary’s’ and he was picked.  The Pack couldn’t stop the run or the pass and fell down 4 or more TDs.  They got a little against prevent but when they went on side they turned it into a forty burger.  The Pack D has never been good and this game showed America how bad they are.  Rodgers was destroyed and the Pack lost and are ELIMINATED.  They get to go home and watch the Super Bowl and that is a happy thing for a BEARS fan even though I picked them.  Oh and Aaron…R-E-L-A-X!

5.            Kansas City Chiefs –

6.            Dallas Cowboys –

7.            Seattle Seahawks –

8.            Houston Texans –

9.            New York Giants –

10.          Oakland Raiders – It is official *unless owners don’t agree* that the Raiders will be Gamblers.  It could work for Vegas but I think this could be the beginning of the death knell for pro teams in Oakland.  Oakland needs revitalization and crime control.

11.          Miami Dolphins –

12.          Detroit Lions –

13.          Tennessee Titans –

14.          Tampa Bay Buccaneers –

15.          Arizona Cardinals –

16.          Cincinnati Bengals –

17.        Indianapolis Colts – The Colts fired the GM, who they had just extended.  They stay still that Pagano is safe.  They also say they won’t say that Peyton Manning is in line for Head of Football Ops.  That isn’t a stone cold denial.

18.          New Orleans Saints –

19.          Philadelphia Eagles –

20.          Minnesota Vikings –

21.          Denver Broncos –

22.          New York Jets –

23.          Jacksonville Jaguars –

24.          Carolina Panthers –

25.          Buffalo Bills –

26.          San Francisco 49ers – Evidently Kyle Shanahan will be the head coach.  It appears he and the Niners want Kirk Cousins so Kaep can start listing his lodgings in SF.

27.          Baltimore Ravens –

28.          Cleveland Browns –

29.          Los Angeles Chargers –

30.          Washington Redskins – Washington might be able to pry a 1st round pick from SF for Cousins so that is something to consider if they are too stupid to sign him long term.

31.          Los Angeles Rams – Wade Phillips is the new DC.  He is a great co-ordinator but not much of a coach.

32.          Chicago BEARS – They need a QB.  They can either get a vet like Ty Taylor or get a ND QB and have him back up someone not named Cutler until he’s ready.

There you have it, as always I would love it if someone just reads all the way through my ramblings and also will accept money, preferably tens and twenties!  Any thoughts, comments, arguments or agreements are always welcome!
