Mr. N’s #NFL Conference Championship Weekend Power Poll #Rankings #Patriots #Falcons

NFL Power Rankings

1.            New England Patriots (1) – Came out with a simple game plan, beat the zone D of Pittsburgh.  There were holes that Jabba The Hutt could have run routes through.  Brady channeled his inner Darth Vader and tore them apart.  They scored and scored and scored.  Their D stopped them in the red zone over and over and even got turnovers.  The game was over well before the 4th Quarter and now The Evil Empire and Darth Vader are on their way to their 9th Super Bowl.

2.            Atlanta Falcons (4) – The Falcons got off to a fast start with a TD and a FG.  Their D played strong and kept getting turnovers.  Ryan was superb.  He spread the ball around and burned them with Sanu, he burned them with Julio, he burned them with Freeman.  By the half they were up by a ton and by the 4th quarter they had put up a 40 burger.  A dominating and powerful win that showed Atlanta at the top of their game.  If they play this way two weeks from now in Houston they could win the Super Bowl.  A great win.

3.            Pittsburgh Steelers (3) – Word of warning to rest of the NFL.  Even is your opponents are a bunch of A**holes -don’t call them that on social media.  Pittsburgh came in with that over their heads and then their D proceeded to play a weak zone that was tore apart again and again.  Big Ben overthrew deep balls and sometimes receivers dropped it too.  Down by a ton they got a little against prevent but too little too late.  A bad loss and they need to work on their D and find a pass rush with consistency.  A little better bulk on the O line wouldn’t hurt.

4.            Green Bay Packers (2) – From the start the Pack D was unable to stop Atlanta.  They fell behind early.  The Packer O missed a FG, fumbled in the red zone and were down 17 fast.  Aaron Rodgers tried to run a table but tripped over the leg and fell down.  He reared back to throw one of his classic ‘hail mary’s’ and he was picked.  The Pack couldn’t stop the run or the pass and fell down 4 or more TDs.  They got a little against prevent but when they went on side they turned it into a forty burger.  The Pack D has never been good and this game showed America how bad they are.  Rodgers was destroyed and the Pack lost and are ELIMINATED.  They get to go home and watch the Super Bowl and that is a happy thing for a BEARS fan even though I picked them.  Oh and Aaron…R-E-L-A-X!

5.            Kansas City Chiefs –

6.            Dallas Cowboys –

7.            Seattle Seahawks –

8.            Houston Texans –

9.            New York Giants –

10.          Oakland Raiders – It is official *unless owners don’t agree* that the Raiders will be Gamblers.  It could work for Vegas but I think this could be the beginning of the death knell for pro teams in Oakland.  Oakland needs revitalization and crime control.

11.          Miami Dolphins –

12.          Detroit Lions –

13.          Tennessee Titans –

14.          Tampa Bay Buccaneers –

15.          Arizona Cardinals –

16.          Cincinnati Bengals –

17.        Indianapolis Colts – The Colts fired the GM, who they had just extended.  They stay still that Pagano is safe.  They also say they won’t say that Peyton Manning is in line for Head of Football Ops.  That isn’t a stone cold denial.

18.          New Orleans Saints –

19.          Philadelphia Eagles –

20.          Minnesota Vikings –

21.          Denver Broncos –

22.          New York Jets –

23.          Jacksonville Jaguars –

24.          Carolina Panthers –

25.          Buffalo Bills –

26.          San Francisco 49ers – Evidently Kyle Shanahan will be the head coach.  It appears he and the Niners want Kirk Cousins so Kaep can start listing his lodgings in SF.

27.          Baltimore Ravens –

28.          Cleveland Browns –

29.          Los Angeles Chargers –

30.          Washington Redskins – Washington might be able to pry a 1st round pick from SF for Cousins so that is something to consider if they are too stupid to sign him long term.

31.          Los Angeles Rams – Wade Phillips is the new DC.  He is a great co-ordinator but not much of a coach.

32.          Chicago BEARS – They need a QB.  They can either get a vet like Ty Taylor or get a ND QB and have him back up someone not named Cutler until he’s ready.

There you have it, as always I would love it if someone just reads all the way through my ramblings and also will accept money, preferably tens and twenties!  Any thoughts, comments, arguments or agreements are always welcome!

Mr. N’s #NFL Wild Card Weekend Power Poll #wildcard #rankings

NFL Power Rankings

1.            New England Patriots (1) – on the bye, watching their OC look for work.  Is there a backroom deal for McDaniels that he gets to go ‘sow’ his wild coaching oats until Dark Helmet retires and then he takes over captaining the death star?

2.            Dallas Cowboys (2) – on the bye and must be seeing the same things I read which is that they might as well not even make the Super Bowl as they can’t beat New England.  Hope they are filling the South Texas bulletin boards with that stuff.

3.            Pittsburgh Steelers (3) – Came out afire in the cold and burned Miami’s D a new one.  The Hot play of Shazier melted any chance the Fin O had.  Before the ice melted off the whistles of the refs there were already 3 Steeler TDs on the board.  Hell, it was nearly the 4th quarter before Pittsburgh had to punt.  They were in total control on O and D and never challenged.  The only reason it was within 20 points was a polite prevent D and the refs didn’t throw any flags as they wanted to go into the warm locker room.  A dominating win that sets up a great match against KC next Sunday.

4.            Atlanta Falcons (4) – on the bye and the best offense left alive in the NFC if not NFL must be ready to face playoff capable D’s.  I think Atlanta has a puncher’s chance to get smoked in the Super Bowl by a strong AFC team.

5.            Kansas City Chiefs (5) – on the bye and must feel pretty good to be awaiting likely Pittsburgh with that home field advantage.  Can they win that and then go back to Foxboro and beat the Evil Empire?

6.            Green Bay Packers (7) – The Pack were utterly destroyed by the Giant D for 28 minutes.  The Pack D could do nothing to slow down the Giants.  If not for multiple dropped TD passes they would have been down 21 at least but instead it was 6.  Then Rodgers got a couple to fall in and they had the lead.  That opened the gate and the Pack piled it on and blew them away.  It will be on to Dallas and perhaps the Cowboys won’t be boating with Bieber this week.  A great win.

7.            Seattle Seahawks (12) – The Seahawks displayed solid D, great rush O and some nice passes to easily skate past the Lions.  The game was never in doubt and was pretty much a west coast laugher.  They scorched for well over 160 yards on the ground and scored at will all game.  Now they get to face Atlanta and they will need a lot of luck I think,

8.            Houston Texans (9) – The Texans brought a fierce D and a QB with tons of issues but the plan worked.  The D got the sacks, pressures, picks and played superb give or take a prevent.  Osweiler was actually not awful.  He didn’t turn the ball over once and although he made the typical stupid Brister tosses *bouncing a ball Bubby fashion* but he made some sharp throws too.  They had some nice run game plans that worked and they dominated via the D.  A superb win for Houston.  Since they face Darth Vader in the Death Star can they do it again?  I guess they have a 15% shot.

9.            New York Giants (6) – The Giants came out with a superb D game plan and for most of the first half they dominated.  Pressure on Rodgers, sacks, disruptions etc. They shut down Rodgers and made him look like Connor Cook.  Unfortunately, OBG was too busy thinking about Bieber and the boat to catch TDs and the drops became contagious.  The Giants dominated but only got 6 points.  Near the end 14 were let in and the bottom fell out.  The D, tired and a bit pissed at the party boat O just stopped playing so hard and the game went south.  I blame this loss fully on Beckham and Cruz and Bieber and a boat and drugs.  A real team gets ready for an elimination game all week.  A shameful loss in a game they had totally in control.

10.          Oakland Raiders (10) – Well the Silver and Black should be proud.  They got the playoffs again for the first time in 13 years.  They didn’t have a shot without Carr and then it got worse when McGloin went down and then downright silly when the LT Penn was out.  Was just simply impossible for Cook to win in that stadium with that experience and no LT.  They didn’t manage much and it was over before it started.  I have every confidence that with health notwithstanding the Raiders will be in the AFC Championship game a little more than 1 year from now.

11.          Miami Dolphins (11) – Much of the pregame talk revolved around how Jay Ajayi went for over 200 against Pittsburgh about 3 months ago,  There was talk that if Miami won, could Tannehill be back next week.  Then the game started and suddenly they were down 18 with nothing to do but get sacked, turn it over and let in points.  They were whitewashed and hit harder than Moore’s chin by that sack.  Blown out, never had a chance.  They need to work on fixing the D *getting rid of goons like Suh* and finding more help for Tannehill and they can be heard from next year.

12.          Detroit Lions (12) – The Lions have managed to nicely complete a dire collapse.  The O was totally inefficient against a Seahawk D that has let most anyone move against them.  The Lion D was flat and got beat, bothered, burned and blasted by the run.  It was ugly early, ugly in the middle and ugly late.  The Team has said that Caldwell is safe for next year.  That is damned generous considering how bad of a collapse the once exciting 9-4 Lions had.  A terrible end to a very disappointing year.

13.          Tennessee Titans –

14.          Tampa Bay Buccaneers –

15.          Arizona Cardinals –

16.          Cincinnati Bengals –

17.        Indianapolis Colts (17) – They are keeping the coach for another year.  My lovely wife may not be far off in thinking that they feel they can’t fire a cancer survivor until it is beyond absolutely necessary.

18.          New Orleans Saints (18) – Appears coach Payton is going to stay in New Orleans again.  One wonders if and when the Saints may get tired of the will he stay will he go show and this may just be his last year.

19.          Philadelphia Eagles –

20.          Minnesota Vikings –

21.          Denver Broncos –

22.          New York Jets (22) – They are keeping their Coach/GM combo but I think the dual seat is red hot starting with the Draft and OTs.

23.          Jacksonville Jaguars (23) – I think Mike Smith would be the best candidate for this premium job that has great weather, rich owner and plenty of talent.

24.          Carolina Panthers –

25.          Buffalo Bills (25) – They haven’t yet cut ties with Taylor at QB so I am not ruling this ship as sunk…yet.

26.          San Francisco 49ers (26) – The coaching vacancy highest rated because it’s nice in San Fran most of the time.

27.          Baltimore Ravens –

28.          Cleveland Browns –

29.          San Diego Chargers –

30.          Washington Redskins –

31.          Los Angeles Rams –

32.          Chicago BEARS –

AFC NORTH PREVIEW 2016 #NFL #NFLTrainingCamp #NFLThoughts

AFC North

Cincinnati Bengals – a team that is built with few holes. One only wonders why this team can’t win a playoff game. By far the most talented and balanced team in the division and they are not beset with drug suspensions. Depth at QB/RB/WR/OL/DL/LB/CB. Built to dominate in the regular season. The post season is another story.

If all goes well they will be 13-3 and vie for home field throughout

If all is as it should be they will be 12-4

If they have troubles then 10-6 is likely.

I say 12-4 and win the division.

Pittsburgh Steelers – A team that has great talent (on O) but a touch lack of inner discipline. Missing a key WR for a year long suspension (Bryant), probably missing LeVeon Bell for 4 games due to suspension. Some issues on O line and a D that is build on top picks but needs to step up – especially in the secondary. I think the suspensions kill their chances.

if all goes amazing they will be 11-5

if it is as it should be they will be 10-6

if they stumble bad then 8-8 is likely.

I think 10-6 and sniffing around a wild card spot.

Baltimore Ravens – a team with about two dozen ifs and that is too many to deal with successfully. They have a lot of key players coming back from injury or bad years and they need health and good play everywhere. A long year ahead.

if all ifs come home then 10-6

if many ifs don’t work 9-7

if no ifs come but lots of buts 8-8

I say 9-7

Cleveland Browns – Building for 2018 but have to play in 2016. A team that is lacking in nearly every position and where they have talent it is either untested or has no depth. They have a tough schedule and have all their hopes on RGIII.

If all goes super for them they will be 5-11

if they manage to just sneak a few they can be 3-13

They could lose them all and be 0-16.

I say 3-13 and another top 5 pick.

Random Sunday Football Thoughts #NFL

We are getting closer to the preseason and training camp fun that comes with it. What is new in Football? The Rookie Salary cap has mostly ended rookie holdouts unless you are the stupid teams like San Diego. They are engaged in a hold out with Joey Bosa over ‘language’. San Diego wants to be able to reclaim bonus money if Bosa isn’t on SD for 5 years. What kind of cheap crap is that and all it does is put their top pick in the slow lane to stardom.

Dave Dameshek is now on the NFL Network so much you can’t swing a dead cat without hitting him. He is the flavor of the month evidently but I am quickly getting tired of seeing him and hearing his voice.

The Sporting News Picks the Steelers to win the Super Bowl in 2016. Zev must be impressed. I think the jump from ‘a dynamic offense’ to ‘a growing great D’ is a large leap and I need to see the D work before I see this team in the Super Bowl let alone winning it.

My team/division reviews will be starting in August!

Have a great last week of June all!

MR N’s #NFL AFC North Preview for 2015‏ #nflthoughts #nflnetwork

AFC North

Baltimore Ravens – There is hope in Charm City as the 2015 season begins.  The Ravens nearly got past the Pats last year and they may be stronger this year.  The Ravens made creative personnel moves that in the end brought them new talent ahead of last year.  Out with WR T Smith and DL Ngata but added Perriman in the draft and already had young talent on the D line and there is no drop off there.  GM Ozzie Newsom has put together a solid lineup, Coach Harbaugh gets the most out of his team.  Flacco isn’t too far from elite and he can get it done.  They have stumbled upon a decent RB.  Their O line is terrific.  The Receiving corps is strong.  The Front 7 of the D is superb.  Mosely is a generational talent at MLB.  Their Corners are strong.  The only slight weakness is a lack of productivity at safety but they just need to be ok to keep up their end.  The schedule is brutal but this team can give as good as it gets.  If all goes well they are 11-5.  I think they can’t be less than 10-6 so I will say 10-6.  This will win the division. This team could be playing in Super Bowl 50.

Pittsburgh Steelers – The Steelers have likely the best offense in the NFL and they are going to need it.  Even missing LeVeon Bell for 3 games won’t kill the scoring.  They have a much younger D now and it’s under a new Co-ordinator.  If the youth can get their legs under them quick and the secondary can turn youth and speed into passes defended and picks then this team will be tough.  I think that is asking too much.  Add to that a schedule only Hell could devise and it’s a recipe for disaster.  If the Steelers are totally on point and win even tough early games like on the road in SD then they could be 6-4 going into their bye.  The post bye sked is horrific and if they are miraculous they might go 2-4 and finish 8-8.  They are likely 1-5 off the bye and that means 7-9.  The Steelers high water mark has to be 10-6 and their low is likely 6-10.  I think 8-8 and out of the playoffs.

Cincinnati Bengals – The Bengals are one of only a few teams that have made the playoffs 4 years in a row.  They are also the only team to go one and done four years in a row.  This streak will end in 2015. They won’t make the playoffs!  Andy Dalton is not much of an excuse for a franchise QB.  They have a super star WR who is a touch injury prone, 2 good RB and they may have a TE who is healthy this year.  The O line is decent.  The D lost it’s mojo when Their DC Zimmer became Minnesota’s coach and they are not the same any more.  Doesn’t really matter who is playing there.  They have a tough schedule too but they are not the team Baltimore is.  I think if they somehow play some D and Dalton makes a throw or two they could win 9 games.  They could blow up and win 6.  I say 7-9 and 2016 brings a new QB and a new HC.

Cleveland Browns – The Browns are a team building something decent after years (and YEARS) of spinning their wheels in no direction.  They still need to find certainty at QB.  Josh McCown is aged but *BUT* could provide steadiness.  John Manziel seems to have found maturity and brought himself to a new place.  It is early days but he resembles the Texas A&M force on the field. He could yet be an NFL QB.  The Browns have 2 good RB, a bunch of competent WR and TE (perennial bad boy Gordon is done for the year and likely as a Brown). The O line is superb. Note that left tackle Joe Thomas has never missed A SNAP in 8 seasons.  That is remarkable!  The D is stronger with the addition of Danny Shelton and adding Williams at CB.  The problem is that Satan devised their schedule.  If the QB play gels the Browns could win a hard fought 9.  I don’t see that.  I see them win their first 3 games, get their city excited.  They then lose the next 7 to their bye and likely their coach is fired *not his fault, he didn’t make the schedule*. Then post bye they go 3-3 and and a hard luck 6-10.  They are a better team than that record but that schedule is a killer.

There you have it, as always I enjoy thoughts, comments, arguments or agreements!

Wacky Thursday Football Thoughts‏ #NFL #NFLThoughts #NFLDraft

Interesting past week in football.  Pittsburgh had two all time greats hang up the cleats – both Polamalu and Ike Taylor.  I did opine that it seemed Taylor had already retired the way he has played lately but none the less (sorry Zev!).  Those two will be missed as leaders and Pittsburgh has needed to upgrade the secondary for a while.  Perhaps a leading DB or Safety is their must pick at 22.

Aaron Hernandez the scum bag gang banging murderer was convicted today.  Good Riddance.  I did get a laugh from twitter tho…one person put out #Breaking News Hernandez convicted of 1st Degree Murder…Goodell suspends him for 2 games. lol
We are about 2 weeks from the draft so next week will bring my Mock draft!
Matt Forte is holding out on the BEARS and now the talk is they might package Forte with the first round pick to move up to take a QB.  They sure need a QB.  I loved having Marshall and Forte on the BEARS but they won us exactly 0 Super Bowls so life with them was nice but I prefer winning years.
Question asked tonight on NFLNetwork was who must get it right in the draft this year.
the team that stands out to me is the sad sack Cleveland Browns.  They have made a mess of their team with the past few years picks.  Last year spending two first rounders on total draft busts means they MUST get the two this year right or I would disband the franchise.
If Washington takes a QB and ousts RGIII they MUST get that right or the city of Washington will want heads on sticks.
that’s about all for now!
any thoughts on who you think must get this year’s draft right?

MR N’s #NFL AFC North Preview ‏ 2014

AFC North

NFL Preview 2014
Division: AFC North

Team: Baltimore Ravens
Coach: John Harbaugh
QB: Joe Flacco

Offensive outlook: The Ravens have issues at RB that stem more from Rice and Pierce’s inability to generate offense than simply Rice about to be suspended (for hopefully a good, long time). Flacco can be terrific when his line protects him and suck when it doesn’t. They also hope an aged Steve Smith will open up Torrie Smith for long passes. Pitta is a star TE and they have tried to solidify the O line but I don’t see this team generating much offense.

Defensive outlook: The D line is centered on a rapidly aging Ngata, the Linebackers are in better shape, their defensive backs need to take a step up. Not the D that won a SuperBowl just 2 years ago.

Schedule projection: I think they project to a 7-9, it’s a pretty tough middle 8 games for this team. Whatever gains they get from their bye they lose by going to New Orleans. If they win 9 it will be a great year for them and if they stumble on the road in their division they might only win 6.

Division: AFC North

Team: Cincinnati Bengals
Coach: Marvin Lewis
QB: Andy Dalton

Offensive outlook: Dalton and Green and company can put up enough points to win the majority of their games. They have consistency issues and really need Bernard and Hill to be mega productive on the ground. They tend to do nothing in the playoffs and that they need to work on.

Defensive outlook: Superbly solid front 7 that helps mask an aging secondary. They need their older guys to have one more decent year and they need their youth to jump in and make a difference right away or this solid D will be beatable if an O line holds off the Bengal pass rush.

Schedule projection: Another challenging schedule but if they get it going then 10-6 looks likely, outside shot at 11 and if they stumble they may only win 9.

Division: AFC North
Team: Pittsburgh Steelers
Coach: Mike Tomlin
QB: Ben Roethlisberger

Offensive outlook: This is still Big Ben’s team but he isn’t getting any younger. Their running game needs to have Bell step up and their wide outs need to be a touch more consistent and their TE game needs to be more productive. Some experts point to the 26+ points averaged late last year but I say look at who they played. Not an offense that scares anyone.

Defensive outlook: The Steelers are building a stronger front 7 but they are still relying on their MUCH aged DBs for coverage and I think that will be the death of this team’s ability to have success on D.

Schedule projection: Their second half schedule is brutal. They ‘could’ jump out to a 5-2 record but I think 4-3 is more likely and that is followed by possibly losing all 5 after the bye. If they start fast they may win 8, if they start slow and stumble to their bye then 6-10 is possible.

Division: AFC North

Team: Cleveland Browns
Coach: Mike Pettine
QB: Brian Hoyer

Offensive outlook: Hoyer will likely win the job but will find it hard going with no legit WR to toss the rock to and a run game based on hoping an oft injured back up rb can start and can carry the rock 300 times. I don’t see many points here and would not be surprised to see Manziel by week 7.

Defensive outlook: They added a strong CB to work with Haden and their linebackers are great, the front 3 need to be more of a force. They will play a lot better than last year but will be on the field a lot thanks to no real offense and that will wear them down.

Schedule projection: I think this team is going to have another very high draft pick no matter who is under center. It would not surprise me to see them 2-14 but they could excel and win 5.

AFC North projected:
Cincinnati Bengals 10-6
Baltimore Ravens 7-9
Pittsburgh Steelers 7-9
Cleveland Browns 2-14

That is just my opinion! AFC South to follow in next couple of days!

What are you thoughts? I’d love to hear from you!
