NFL Power Rankings

Last Week Week 5
1 1 Kansas City The Chiefs took on a game Houston team that had O to spare but was running a spare parts D.  The Chiefs O was the difference.  The startling lack of D could be an issue going forward but as long as they can put up 40 burgers they will be ok and are still the best team in the NFL (as of this moment).
2 2 Green Bay The Pack had issues getting stops with their D despite getting back the be all and end all of D players (surprised statues to Daniels aren’t already outside Canton the way he is spoken about in hushed tones) and it took a drive by currently the best QB in the NFL to win the game.  You simply can’t give Rodgers that much time at the end of the game.  As long as Rodgers does that then this is the best in the NFC.
3 3 Philadelphia The Eagles looked very good this week taking the wood to a very poor team.  While one cannot make too much out of a victory over such a lesser light…one must not overlook how many teams do overlook bad opponents and end up in dogfights.  A good win by a good team over a bad team.
6 4 Denver On the bye and a bunch of teams ahead of them in the poll simply played so bad that Denver gets to move up.  Lets see them make this stick by winning this week.
4 5 Houston The Texans D got decimated by injury and if not for the amazing talent of DeShaun they might have been blown out.  The Texan offense is the hottest thing going.  It is a cardinal shame that the D (supposed to be the team strength) is the reason the Texans are not undefeated.  Can’t fault Watson, he does enough to win every week.
7 6 Atlanta On the bye and moved up one notch because so many ‘good’ teams were bad.
9 7 Carolina The schizo Panthers continue to stay on their meds.  They managed to pull out a win over a mediocre team and if they can just find a little more D and keep their QB and RB healthy they might be able to really challenge Atlanta.
11 8 New England The Pats came back, they just won’t go away!  In all truth they played bad enough to have lost on TNF but for the lack of a TB kicker hitting anything.  Can’t really hang your hat on this win but for the fact it was a win.  I have TREMENDOUS doubts about the skill level of this once vaunted team.
12 9 Minnesota The Vikings managed to crawl out of Chicago on their collective bellies with a win.  They have some serious issues with their O.  I think Bradford is too beat up to be able to go and Keenum is getting to be like the girl on the hill.  One wonders if Bridgewater is coming back any time soon.  The D carries this team but as was shown against the stinky Lions, it can only carry them so far.
10 10 Washington On the bye and I still think this team is one of the best in the NFC.
16 11 Baltimore The Ravens made a good impression by pounding the whatsis out of the Raiders.  I think the Ravens O has some limited talent and their D can get it done most of the time.  They are certainly tough enough to challenge the current version of Pittsburgh in the AFC North.
5 12 Pittsburgh Oh how the perceived mighty have fallen. They were flat and that part that wasn’t flat got flattened by the Jags.  Problems on O continue and with Big Ben questioning his own ability it doesn’t look like it is getting any better any time soon.  They need major HELP on O.  Fire the O.C.
8 13 Tampa Bay The Bucs gave a good effort on Thursday and they did all they had to, in order to beat NE.  Except their FG kicker missed 3 and that was 9 points and they lost by 6.  They played solid D and good O and really deserved a win but they lost the game way more than NE won it.
18 14 Seattle Much (TOOOOO Much) is being made about the Legion of Ooops and their performance against LA.  The Seahawks won the game and the D did make a few good plays but the game was only theirs because the Rams lost it.  The Seahawks played bad enough to lose and that doesn’t make them suddenly great.
13 15 Buffalo The Bills did what I didn’t think they would do.  They let Andy Dalton and the Bengals beat them.  It was on the road and it was in bad weather but COME ON BUFFALO!  The D had an off game and they can’t afford to do that in what is now a competitive division.  They need a better effort after the bye.
15 16 Dallas The Cowboys took on GB and their O did enough to win the game and Dak can’t be faulted for setting them up for a win.  The poor excuse for a Cowboy D can be faulted for letting GB beat them.  A bad loss and this team has some serious D issues.
23 17 Jacksonville The Jaguars had another game for the ages.  They kicked the Steelers all over the place and won it going away.  They have a great young D and if they can just get their O to be consistent they may yet have something going this year.
17 18 Detroit The Detroit Lions did what they do best, they played hard for most of the game, they made some critical errors and they lost.  They seem to be able to beat teams that are old and injury riddled.  This is not the new Lions.  This is the same old Sorry Assed Lions.
19 19 LA Rams The LA Rams had a shot to show they were the new big dog in the NFC West but they dropped the ball.  Literally.  Gurley dropped a TD and Kupp dropped a TD and if both had scored they would have won.  The D played pretty well (one of it’s better efforts) and Senor Goff is doing all that is required.  He needs his team to do their part.
20 20 New Orleans On the bye and the Saints just took a week and maybe got healthier.  A team still looking for direction.
14 21 Tennessee Ah the Titans.  They didn’t have Mariota and evidently that was all she wrote.  The O was moribund and they couldn’t get out of their own way.  The D played alright but not scoring against the HAPLESS Dolphins is inexcusable.  What a bad, bad loss this was.
26 22 NY Jets Break up the Jets!  Well they have won 3 in a row and that is defintely not how to suck for Sam.  They get decent O from the aged QB and I have to give them credit for showing heart.  They keep winning and they could honestly be a playoff contender.
24 23 Indianapolis The Colts are a cardiac case if there ever was one.  They may set the NFL record for taking bad teams to OT and winning with a FG.  The state of kicking today you can’t really malign a team that can win with FGs.  It was a close win and that is better than a close loss.
25 24 Cincinnati The Bengals took advantage of home field and left over Hurricane Nate moisture to beat a game Bill team.  Dalton didn’t look like an Orange haired mistake and that is twice in a row.  Lets see them win another one.
30 25 LA Chargers The Bolts got off the schneid with their first win!  It is quite the performance for them to fly 3000 miles and play that well.  I guess being away from home was kind of a home game for them.  A good win over a terrible team but now they can be confident in the fact they won’t go 0-16 this year!
21 26 Oakland Oh Silver and Black I miss you so.  Not having Carr reduces this team to a walking punch line.  They were pummeled and lost an ugly one.  This is going south fast and now we have to openly wonder if they can beat the Chargers.
28 27 Miami The Fins won a game with Cutler being Cutler.  He barely did enough to show he had a pulse but they combined that with some timely D and won a game.  They still stink but they did win.
22 28 Arizona Wow.  I knew this was a bad team but did they ever prove it this week.  Bad on D, no O to speak of.  I can’t think they can get much worse but they did trade for AP and cut CJnoK so they may just get worse yet!
29 29 Chicago The BEARS have hope at QB!  Trubisky didn’t get the win but he got the BEARS close and had a shot.  He was hampered by drops and bad penalties.  He showed poise, leadership, talent and the ability to lead a team.  I think bright days are ahead.  They may not be too bright before 2018 but they are ahead.
27 30 San Francisco Another good effort by the Niners.  Hoyer played well and the D made some stops but they just couldn’t seal the deal.  They are not the worst winless team.  They are the third worst!
32 31 Cleveland Poor old Cleveland. They keep getting shots to win and not getting it done.  They had to bench Kizer.  He may yet be their QB of the future but it’s gotta be overwhelming to be throwing to a cast of who, what and why.
31 32 NY Giants The G-men.  They stink.  The thing is they stunk with OBG, Marshall and Shepard at WR.  Take their top 4 WR off the team for a month (gloves gone all year) and this team may yet have a new QB. They may go 0-16 and get to draft Sam D.

NFL Power Rankings

Last Week Week 4
1 1 Kansas City The Chiefs made a firm believer out of me with that Monday Night Performance.  That they may have only been able to put the game away with the loss of a key Redskin defender isn’t damning.  That is simply football.  The Chiefs met a huge challenge from a tough team and fought back to tie and then take a lead and then in a gambler breaking play to put the game away.  Once again, the best team in the NFL.  For today.
2 2 Green Bay This is the best team in the NFC but boy do they seem to have a lot of issues.  Rodgers keeps getting sacked, the rush offense is lacking any consistency and the D can’t stop a run or cover well.  However they keep pulling out wins.  As long as they win they are this good.  When they lose they no longer are.
10 3 Philadelphia I am blown away by how good the Eagles are already.  Wentz has the O going and has a solid rush game with the Pat cast off Blount.  The D is formidable in all three areas and they are playing good special teams.  This Eagle team could waltz away with the NFC East.
11 4 Houston Look out AFC here ARE the Texans.  What a difference a QB makes.  The 30 minutes Watson spent as backup was probably the longest 30 of the Texans season.  Now with a dynamic franchise QB leader to combine with ample weapons on O and a superb D with great special teams.  I foresee the triplets of Houston will be known as the 3 D’s  – Deshaun, D’onte and DeAndre.  If this keeps going they could be playing in Minnesota in February.
9 5 Pittsburgh The Steelers D came back this week and Ryan Shazier is a force.  The O still has yet to find it’s mojo but Bell did have a good day running.  The win over Baltimore eased off the pressure on them but they really need to start the scoring machine to coast in the AFC North.
17 6 Denver Ok that was an impressive performance in all phases of the game.  The O was soild, the D was solid and the special teams was solid.  They dispatched a dispirited Raider team and looked great doing it.  They need to do this again.
6 7 Atlanta Atlanta got whipped by a suddenly tough Bills team.  This is a hard team to figure out as they can dominate with the best but can also crawl thru a game and lose when you don’t expect it.  I had thought they would have pasted the Bills but no.  Hmmm.
13 8 Tampa Bay The Bucs managed to win a game almost despite their kicker trying to lose it.  Winston goes from looking like overrated to ok he can do it.  They need help at RB and on D.  They need to play harder for 60.  They need to beat NE on Thursday.
14 9 Carolina This team confuses me.  They were destroyed by a bad team (Saints) and then went to NE and destroyed the Patriots.  How is that possible?  Caaaaaaam looks healthy and the D looks beatable but if they score 33 every week that may be less important.
8 10 Washington A team that looked good in losing again.  The Redskins have great O line, a good QB, lots of RB, some holes at WR and a good D when healthy.  They are going to be a force in the playoff race all year and the biggest challenge to the Eagles.
3 11 New England oh how the mighty have fallen.  Can they fall a touch more and lose on TNF this week?  Brady looks 40 and the D looks like they couldn’t run a 40.  They were taken apart by the Panthers and no matter how many people say that the Pats can make magic…they can’t make magic with talentless bums on D and that is what they have aplenty.
4 12 Minnesota Well the Vikings couldn’t keep the fire burning and the O was flat.  The D lost the game because they dropped 3 air mailed interceptions tossed to them by Stafford.  It was a terrible effort a bad loss to a bad team.  They need to do better.
20 13 Buffalo The Bills make you wanna shout!!!  Who knew the Bills were a good team?  I think this D is superb.  Tyrod is a good QB and Shady looks like he wants to be the force.  They keep winning I will believe more.
7 14 Tennessee The Titans got schooled by the Texans.  Mariota went down and boy did the D look pedestrian.  I think they looked power football in the face and blinked.  A loss like this could knock the Mularkey out of them.
12 15 Dallas Speaking of Mularkey, someone who says this O line is the best in the NFL is full of it.  They don’t have a great O line and their D stinks and if it wasn’t for the hapless Giants the Cowboys would be bottom feeding the NFC East.
15 16 Baltimore The Ravens had a shot to take over the division and got beat by Pittsburgh.  Flacco seems to be trying too hard and doesn’t have the talent or talent around him to get it done.  I think the Ravens aren’t all they seem to be.
18 17 Detroit I continue to not respect the Lions.  I watched Stafford throw 3 balls that would have been picked and 2 for six points each but they were dropped.  Detriot didn’t so much win as they didn’t lose.  This is  the worst one loss team in the NFL.
23 18 Seattle Seattle was in a close game and looking like they were going to be overmatched by a bad Colt team and then in about 3 minutes they blew it open and never looked back.  I cannot say this means they are good but it does mean the Colts are bad.
21 19 LA Rams Wow. I am a growing believer in this offense.  I need to see more consistency from Ram D but the O is the best O in the NFL.  Goff is amazing and I am sorry I thought he was  a bust last year.  Gurley is the MVP so far and Kupp is the best young WR in football.  Wow.
24 20 New Orleans The Saints shut out the hapless Fins.  This combined with their destruction of Carolina doesn’t yet mean they have good D.  I need to see them do it again and I will believe the D is good.  They can’t score like they used to, at least not yet.
5 21 Oakland With the loss of Carr for a bit and the deplorable play of Cooper and Lynch and the entire D…The first two weeks were a mirage and the Raiders are a pretty bad team.   Prove me wrong but I think they are bad.
16 22 Arizona Grampa Cardinal.  The nickhame for everyone on this team.  They are old and bad and a team that needs rebuilding stat.  A bad loss waiting to happen, blame it on their age.
19 23 Jacksonville The Jags took whatever good will they gained from a UK blowout and pissed it away by losing to the hapless Jets.  This D is schizo and cannot be understood. What is the real Jag team?
22 24 Indianapolis The Colts played 30 tough mintues.  The game is 60 but they did play 30 good ones.  They got destroyed. In the end the Colts are just bad and adding Luck will make them pitiable and bad.
32 25 Cincinnati The Bengals showed off some O and Dalton didn’t look like an orange haired bum.  They won a game handily and can at least state confidently that they are better than Cleveland.
28 26 NY Jets The Jets are not doing well in their tank fest.  Winning two in a row isn’t the way to suck for Sam.  They still aren’t very good but they have played good D for 120 minutes now.
29 27 San Francisco The Niners did everything but win.  They lack so much talent in all phases that it is pure heart that drives them as far as they get.  A good effort and maybe they can win one soon.
25 28 Miami OMG. Cutler is a bum but this is extremely bumlike for him.  What a horrible effot and to be shut out in UK is embarrassing.  One more loss like this and they are on a rocket ship to 32.
26 29 Chicago What can I say about my BEARS in their being destroyed by the Pack?  It’s F’ing Trubisky time.  Glennon couldn’t have given up his job any better then turning it over 4 times against GB.  What an ugly loss.  It can’t be any worse so give the kid his shot.
27 30 LA Chargers The Chargers are the forgotten team in LA.  They can’t get any luck and to lose the way they did shows they are playing under a bad cloud of smog.  Hapless and unlucky and unloved   The short definition of the LA Chargers.
30 31 NY Giants I have seen a team suck and they are the Giants.  Eli showed some life but they can’t stop enough.  The D is supposed to carry this team and they are bad all over.  Ugly.
31 32 Cleveland Well my hopes for Cleveland winning a couple faded fast.  The Browns need to get it together.  Getting Shelton and Garrett back on D would go a long way to improving this young team.

Mr. N’s #NFL Power Poll Week 2 #nflthoughts #powerrankings

Last Week Week 2
2 1 Oakland The Raiders played a great 30 minutes after mailing it in for the first 30.  They need to just keep the foot on the gas every minute but to me they are the class of the NFL.
5 2 Kansas City The Chiefs may be the 2nd best in their division but they are in the league.  A great D that didn’t miss many beats without Berry.  I think they are on a collision course with the Silver and Black.
3 3 New England They got better playing the hapless Saints D.  The O looked good but we really need to see them play a better team to say for sure the Pats are back.
1 4 Green Bay The Pack got whupped and it was truly a pleasure to watch.  Evidently the D is not as good as what they did to Seattle but probably not as bad as they played against Atlanta.  Rogers got picked so I don’t have to listen to that ‘xxx many throws since his last pick’
8 5 Pittsburgh A solid win that they had to work hard to get but they lucked out with facing a backup QB.  They still need to iron out the kinks in the O.
10 6 Atlanta A great win and the Falcons seem to be over any SB loss funk.  They blew out the Pack and look amazing.  The loss of Vic Beasley may hurt though.
11 7 Denver Speaking of D the Broncs wiped out Dallas with great D and solid O.  Siemian has impressed me with his talent and if he is for real the Broncos could be a force.
9 8 Carolina The Panthers got a win with good D and not much O.  They need more of the latter to compete with the Falcons.
4 9 Minnesota The Vikes got beat because they had to start a back-up QB on the road in a tough game.  The D played well but they not surprisingly had no O.  I expect better with Bradford back.
12 10 Baltimore This team is coming on with a 2-0 record and a D that looks like it is Super Bowl quality.  The O is working and I want to see if they can keep this effort going.
7 11 Arizona They won over Indy but this team may just be old and getting older every second.  I was fooled by their schedule and their talent on paper.  This team has a shot of finishing last in their division.
13 12 Tampa Bay A great game but they did it to the hapless BEARS.  It will be telling to see them play a better quality opponent in week 3.
14 13 Detroit They have won 2 in a row and that means slightly more than nothing.  I do not respect this team and will fall over if they win more than 9 this year.
6 14 Dallas Jerry Jones says this loss doesn’t define or represent his Cowboys.  Maybe it does.  Maybe this O line is no longer the best in the NFL.  I thought that ship sailed last year.  They are not elite and Dez is not a top flighjt WR.
16 15 Houston Frankly I have seen better efforts on O and D but for the circumstances it wasn’t bad.  The team overcame a severe lack of Tight Ends, a rookie QB first career start and a team whose mind must still be on the mess their town is in after the hurricane.  They were a bit flat on D but got the job done and the O was pretty badly flat but DeShaun did have one good run in him.  It was not pretty  or well played but it was a win.
20 16 Tennessee The Titans took the Jags apart and looked pretty solid here.  Now is this the team pre-season people loved or are they the week 1 version?
15 17 Philadelphia There was no shame in losing to a better team and the Eagles gave a pretty fair accounting of themselves.  We wait to see how they fare this week.
22 18 Washington The Skins battled all game and pulled out a win this week.  A pretty good effort and now the team needs to build on this.
19 19 Seattle This team crawled out on their belly with a win and looked horrible doing it.  They need to start combing the north woods for large tree cutters who might play O line.
28 20 Miami Rich Eisen is a Cutler believer.  I am not.  They handily won a game and I will reward that but wait to see how they do week 3.
17 21 LA Rams The Rams played a pretty good game and were in this match for most of the day.  Gurley continues to be the RB most likely to dance out of bounds to avoid being tackled.  They are on a short week now and must try their luck against potentially a fair to middling D.
18 22 Jacksonville The Jags seemed to have forgotten to bring their D to the division meeting and got whupped.  The O was lackluste and the D just got beat.  We must wait to see which team is real.
27 23 Indianapolis Well they nearly won this game.  For a team bereft of most talent at every position they gave a game effort and had to settle for an OT loss.  I think we can convincingly state that Brissett is better than Tolzien.
23 24 Buffalo The Bills need some O stat.  They played a decent D but to muster only 3 points?  Yeesh.
24 25 LA Chargers The only thing sadder than the bad luck the Bolts continue to have is the lack of anyone in LA caring what happens to them.  They couldn’t fill that dinky place if they gave away free beer.
25 26 Cleveland Continuing to give a hard try even when reduced to 2nd/3rd string QB.  I think this team has talent and is going to win their next game.
21 27 New Orleans There has been a lot of talk about D in New Orleans and that is just denial.  There is no D and it doesn’t matter what Brees does, they can’t stop anyone.
26 28 NY Giants I thought NY had just one rotten team but boy do the Giants suck.  I don’t believe their entire lack of any ability on the O line is Eli’s fault.  Brady couldn’t QB with that line in front of him.  McAdoo should be McAdone.
30 29 San Francisco Played a pretty solid game on D with not much O and nearly snuck a win.  Interesting to see if this effort can continue on a short week.
29 30 Cincinnati I do not believe I thought the Bengals were as bad as they are.  They were just abhorrent tonight.  To play that bad at home on Thursday?  They canned the OC but he is not an overrated overpaid red haired bum who masquarades as a QB.  The Bengals may have ‘star’ power but they have no heart and that may come from above.  Now this team of smelly refuse goes to Green Bay.  Wonder how 0-3 will taste?
31 31 Chicago But for a garbage time TD this was an ugly shutout.  The BEARS looked hapless on O and D and this just in, that won’t win them many games.  A reward? They get the Steelers next.
32 32 NY Jets The Jets showed a modicum of life in the first half but that may have just been their opponent not trying as they are the Jets.  The last 30 min showed just how awful this team is.

Mr. N’s #NFL Week 1 Power Poll #PowerRankings #NFLThoughts

2017 Power Poll Week 1
Last Week  Wk1
2 1 Green Bay Played a solid game and won it pretty easily.  Too early to really judge how good the Pack D is until they play a team with an actual offensive line.
4 2 Oakland Was a superb game from start to finish.  Given a gift of a free possession they never looked back and kicked a much hyped Titan squad all over the place.  The Silver and Black look very legit early.
1 3 New England They got pounded in the 2nd half, 4th quarter specifically.  It seemed that Brady was flat, the D can’t deal with speed and this either will be the wake up that inspires them or the slightest chance this is signalling they are on the way down.
5 4 Minnesota Wow what a game!  Bradford had the best game of his career and the Vikes D brought it like everyone knew they would.  Their kicker even kicked field goals.  If they can maintain this effort they could challenge GB.
8 5 Kansas City A superb win and too much can be made of this easily.  What we can take away from this is that Alex Smith threw a great deep ball and now he has targets who can run.  The Chiefs lost Berry at S and that may do more to harm this team than this win does to make them better.  Still a great start to their year for one game.
11 6 Dallas A good game by the Cowboys with solid O.  The D here is also hard to judge since they faced a team with no offensive line whatsoever.  How good they are will start to be shown in week 2.
3 7 Arizona Well they played a pretty good 45 minutes but then their D just crapped out and they lost one late.  They should have won it and now we have to wonder if they are just old?
7 8 Pittsburgh They struggled on O all day and had to battle to overcome a game Cleveland squad.  LeVeon showed clearly how important preseason is.  A solid D, a bad O and they need to get their game on quick.
12 9 Carolina What a nice gift to start the season, they played SF and walked all over that moribund team.  A good win against a bad opponent.
10 10 Atlanta The Falcons had all they could handle from the BEARS and they barely eeked out a win.  That says more about the issues Atlanta has then how good Chicago may be.
15 11 Denver The Broncs had the game well in hand, their D got scorched late and then they snuck out on the tummy with a close win.  If this represents the D then there are problems a mile above everyone else.
17 12 Baltimore A great win for the Ravens.  The D looked fierce and the O was solid.  Can they keep this up is the question.
16 13 Tampa Bay on a weather bye and this means no breaks rest of year so this will be a bad year for a team that was on the rise.
20 14 Detroit The Lions looked like the same old sorry assed Lions for 45 min and then the most overpaid QB in America led another come from behind win.  We will see how good they are as time goes by.
23 15 Philadelphia Philly played a great game and looked solid on O and D.  They are one of the few teams I saw that looked Legit.
9 16 Houston Evidently the emotion of the week wore on them and they were flat on all aspects.  They have  short week and are starting a rookie QB.  Good luck.
26 17 LA Rams That was the week’s biggest blowout but we must temper our enthusiasm until they play like that against an NFL team.
24 18 Jacksonville They had a great game against a team who didn’t seem to be there.  You do have to be impressed by the Jag D.  Seems what I saw coming in 2017 may have arrived in 2018.
13 19 Seattle The smell in the North West isn’t fish, it’s the Hawk O line or lack there of.  Unless they figure out how to block someone this team is in serious trouble.
14 20 Tennessee Hunh.  Dumb coach call #1 is the onside kick to start the year.  And they lost it and let in a TD. It was pretty much over then.  We will see if they have any of the ability the pundits think they do.
20 21 New Orleans They were hung drawn and quartered by the Vikes.  So much fot the vaunted improved D. The D still sucks.
19 22 Washington You can’t turn the ball over a million times in a division game and expect to win.  They need better discipline to start and maybe better O too.
30 23 Buffalo A great game but they did beat the Jets who are doing all they can to lose em all.  A nice win though.
25 24 LA Chargers They had a slow start but gave their all and nearly stole a division win.  A good effort in a loss.
27 25 Cleveland They played a hard game and Kizer looked good. The D looked impressive.  Can they get that effort for 60 is the question.
6 26 NY Giants They had no O line and if they have no O without gloves then this team is in great trouble. The D got scorched too.  I need to see them play better to have my preseason faith restored in any way shape or form.
22 27 Indianapolis If they play as bad as they did in Week 1 in week 2 they will be on an express ride to 32.  That was horrible.
28 28 Miami on a weather bye and this team wasn’t very good to start with so this pretty much guts any chance they didn’t have to be a force in the AFC. (This was already gutted when they hired Jay fricking Cutler to QB them.)
21 29 Cincinnati No offense and the D looked bad.  They need to bounce back on Thursday or the coach’s ass is on fire.
29 30 San Francisco What a terrible performance by a universally bad team. They are as bad as I thought they were.
31 31 Chicago My BEARS gave a game effort and but for multiple drops they might have won this game but close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades and North Korean Nukes.  A loss is a loss.
32 32 NY Jets This is the home of dumb coach decision #2 – down 2 scores late with a 4th and short near midfield what do they do?  Punt and never get the ball back.  I think they are intentionally trying to lose them all.
Thoughts, Comments, Questions, Arguments, Agreements?  All welcome! As always I will be happy to take money, preferably tens and twenties!

NFL Power Rankings

12. Carolina Panthers – a team that is relying on the health of Cam’s Arm for their success. It is a tough division too.

If Cam has issues – 7-9
If Cam is ok – 9-7
A great year – 11-5

11. Dallas Cowboys – Pre-suspension for the woman beating scumbag RB this team was much higher in my preseason list. Without him they slide because it’s a drop off to the next best.

A rough year – 7-9
Battling year – 9-7
If they can overcome – 12-4

10. Atlanta Falcons – most teams suffer a Super Bowl Loss hangover and this team will be no exception. They still have most of the weapons but teams will be gunning for them and you can’t overlook the concussion their RB suffered early.

A tough year – 9-7
A decent year – 10-6
They come together – 11-5

9. Houston Texans – this team is D and D and D. If either Savage can be ok or they turn it over to DeShaun fast and it works then this team could surprise. Still the D is enough to do some business this year.

If they have little O – 8-8
If they get some O – 10-6
If DeShaun Watson is the real deal – 12-4

8. Kansas City Chiefs – They have built a pretty solid team and the addition of the rookie RB Alvin Kamara could be the spark the O needs.

A poor year – 9-7
A decent year – 11-5
If it all works – 13-3

7. Pittsburgh Steelers – This team is going to score a lot of points and the late addition of Joe Haden at CB gives the D a huge boost. The last hurrah of Big Ben is near but this could be the year for the Steelers.

If they just coast to the Division – 12-4
If they are in control – 13-3
With Haden they are a force – 14-2

6. New York Giants – The Gmen seem to have built a team poised to make a Super Bowl run. The suspension of Elliott pretty much gives them the division. This team could a force.

A rough year – 9-7
A decent year – 11-5
They are a super team – 13-3

TOP 5

5. Minnesota Vikings – I love this D and Bradford has a full year of the offense, better running backs and an improved line. The schedule is pretty easy too.

A bad year – 9-7
A decent year – 11-5
A super year – 12-4

4. Oakland Raiders – This team was great last year and now they add Beastmode and their D got help too. They could give Oakland a championship before they go to Vegas.

A rough year – 11-5
A good year – 13-3
They are unstoppable and just win baby – 14-2

3. Arizona Cardinals – pundits say there are a lot of issues, I say they have one of the easiest schedules ever. Yes they are old but they could go out with a bang.

A bad year – 11-5
A good year – 13-3
They win what they could – 14-2

2. Green Bay Packers – The Pack may be back and this time Rodgers could get his Super Bowl return. It will take a lot of good football to knock the Pack off the top of the NFC heap this year.

A bad year – 12-4
A good year – 14-2
They may just go – 15-1

1. New England Patriots – doesn’t seem like anything can slow them down. They won the Super Bowl, they won the off season, they suffered several key injuries and just shrugged. They have to be favored to win it all no matter what.

They have a ‘bad’ year -13-3
A good year – 14-2
They may just win them all this time – 16-0

There you have it and next up is the regular season!

NFL Power Rankings

Hey everyone, here is the next 4…

16. Tampa Bay Buccaneers – A preseason fave amongst many prognosticator but I can’t get past what is a pretty tough schedule. They will be better but to really improve they will have to slay a lot of beasts.

if they can’t get it working – 6-10
likely 8-8 (but a tough 8-8)
If they can slay a few – 11-5

15. Denver Broncos – People seem to forget that not having a decent QB made Denver who they are. If the officials call pass interference more often, they won’t be so strong in the secondary either. With no QB, they are likely on the outside looking in.

If it’s bad – 6-10
likely – 9-7
If they find a QB – 10-6

14. Tennessee Titans – the preseason darling of many an expert. They have a lot going for them on O and D but they have a bit of a tough schedule.

if they stumble – 7-9
likely – 10-6
If they win a lot in their division – 11-5

13. Seattle Seahawks – Boy they have a tough schedule. They will need everything to work to get it done.

if it doesn’t work – 9-7
Likely – 11-5
If they make it work – 13-3

That is it for now.

12-9 is next sometime!

MR N’s Exclusive #NFLDraft Second and Third Round Thoughts #NFL

nfl draft 2014

First thoughts – how stupid is Cleveland to cut Barnidge because they drafted a round 1 TE? Has Cleveland missed the whole 2 tight end set that has been in vogue and successful for the last half decade?  The Jets showing that type of team is common in the bottom feeder world – they got Jamal Adams a super star Safety so they are getting rid of Calvin Pryor who was over matched in the QB Safety role but might have shone as a #2 under Adams but nope the Jets think you only need 1 safety.  Reasons why teams like Cleveland the Jets just lose and lose and draft high and draft high.

Round 2

Green Bay takes Kevin King CB and he will help a Pack secondary that has had issues *happily to a BEARS Fan* for the last few years.  This will make them better.

Seattle trades to Jacksonville and Jags take Cam Robinson T.  O line from college are very hard to see how they clearly transition to the pro game so it may take Robinson a while to get NFL ready but he will be a good one.

Seattle – Malik McDowell DT – another Seahawk D project not unlike the one they drafted a couple of years back. Frank Clark thanks Charles Davis Typical Hawk pick.

Chicago traded another pick because they are allergic to taking top talent and when they use a top pick they pick stupidly.  Arizona has the pick and takes Budda Baker S when they mighta taken a QB but they got another good addition to what already is a great secondary.

Buffalo trades in to take Zay Jones WR – a bit of a reach for Buffalo but they must like how he fits into their receiving corps.

The LA Bolts take Forrest Lamp G The best interior lineman is now a Bolt protector.  He will help keep Rivers upright while the QB cashes AARP checks.  Good pick.

New York Jets take Marcus May S because as long as the sun rises in the East the Jets need help in their secondary.  Question is which Safety will they trade or cut now because the Jets don’t like depth.

Carolina picks Curtis Samuel RB/WR and he will add depth to the receiver corps which lacks it.

Minnesota Vikings trade up and take Dalvin Cook RB – thank the good Lord they didn’t take the woman beating scum and they took a guy with super talent who hangs with bad dudes but maybe the cold air will keep him on the straight and narrow.  Superb pick if they can babysit him in off hours.

New Orleans Saints take Marcus Williams S to work to give the woeful Saint D someone who can do something to stop the opposition from scoring.

Philadelphia Eagles pick Sidney Jones CB and he woulda been a top 20 but for a torn acl thingy and he will be back and he will be potentially a shutdown corner once healthy.

Rams are taking Gerald Everett TE and they lost a few receivers and never really have had any since Warner was their QB so this guy can catch some.

CHICAGO BEARS are actually picking someone – they take Adam Shaheen TE – nice St Jude moment there and a brave little BEARS Fan read the pick.  Chicago has been lacking a great TE since they traded Olsen and if Shaheen can transition from small school to NFL then this big beast could be a good pick.

…now only comments on picks that illicit commentary from me….

Cincinnati Bengals took Joe Mixon RB and girl abuser, numerous times, violently argumentative with parking attendants.  The entire State of Ohio and Michigan and Iowa and perhaps Indiana needs to start protesting at their mini camps and pre-season and regular season.  Playing in the NFL is a privilege and not a right and this thug has given up the rights to the privilege and doesn’t deserve the chance.  A pick that will resonate on the Bengal organization.  Congrats you took a thug who can play.  Guess if Aaron Hernandez was alive they might have traded for him.

The Skins took a good Bama LB and that will help that team, various lesser light d players are going off the board.

Cleveland finally drafts a QB and they take DeShone Kizer and he will need to grow and perhaps he can learn behind Kessler for a while and then they will potentially have a franchise QB in Cleveland for the first time in a VERY long time.

Lions grab Teez Tabor and he will add some talent to their D.  The Lions get better now.

OakVegas took Obi the unpronounceable CB and he is tall and will give them a jolt and help that secondary that had issues get better

The Texans added LB Cunningham who slid because he doesn’t sack the QB but a solid LB who can just tackle and cover will fit in very well in Houston.  He’s Vandy too.

Pittsburgh Steelers drafted a WR named Ju Ju and he will give them a solid 2 to play opposite AB and this will make the Steeler O even more dangerous.  Great pick

Nice inciting of potential riots in Philly by Cowboy Drew Pearson

2nd round ends with Panthers taking a Tackle and they can use depth on that Panther line

Third round

Highlights only…

The Saints take Alvin Kamara a first-round RB and that is a talent steel.  The Saints are filling the team with RBs and me thinks if Kamara is who Mike Mayock says he is * I do believe what Mike says* then AP may not want to take a long-term lease in New Orleans because there may not be much work for an over the hill fading child beater with someone like Kamara and Ingram there.

Rams take WR Cooper Kupp and I feel like I know him having had him on NFLN every fricking week.  He is a decent WR and will be a decent WR in LA with Goff if Goff can ever become an NFL QB.

Vikings took C/G Pat Elflein and he may not be all that but last year they were pulling people off the street to play O line so any help is good help.  A good pick.

Cincy at 73 grabs DE Jordan Willis and he coulda been a first-round pick and he may not fully fit in as he is not a scumbag but he can play.

The Saints took Anzalone the LB and he woulda been higher picked if he didn’t have health issues.  Good potential if healthy.

Denver takes a fast if fragile WR Carlos Henderson, he can be quick but can he be consistent.

New England Patriots finally make a pick at #83.  One wondered if they would EVER pick but they do and they pick Derek Rivers DE a small school guy who can sack the QB and The Patriot Way will make him the most dangerous and this will make the Pats better of course.

Pats 2nd pick in 3 is Antonio Garcia T This kid could one day be a LT, he is a beast and will be a super addition to a line that needs help.  This guy could be Solder’s replacement according to Mike Mayock the Draft God.

Chiefs take Kareem Hunt RB and if he brings all he did in college then there is another changing of the guard at RB in KC coming quick.

The Giants took QB Davis Webb and this guy is the perfect Eli backup as Eli is long in the tooth and Webb needs an Aaron Rodgers grooming period then he will take over.  Superb pick for the G men.

Texans took good guy D’Onte Foreman who will be a big body RB who gets the short yardage and goal line job and keeps Lamar Miller healthy.  Great spot for a good guy.

A lot of secondary additions late in the 3rd round a couple of team added big O line and D line.

Niners added a kid QB late C.J. Beathard who I guess they are hoping for a Dak Prescott like turn from.

An interesting if poorly run 2nd night of draft and it took a lot out of me for this so you are all pretty much on your own for the 4th to 7th rounds.  Enjoy the rest of the draft and remember people like Brady and Sherman came in the late rounds so don’t sleep on the talent that comes late!
